Walden iii senior living community, Wind gap, PAPersonal care/independent living

We were at an impass. We wanted Mom to consider Personal Care but she was dead set against it. She can manage just fine, she insisted. I love her dearly and am happy to do for her but I can only check on her so of-ten and I worry constantly. She reluctantly agreed to visit Walden III and they suggested a compromise. Independent Living! There are lovely apartments on the campus for folks like Mom and you can select whatever

services you want from meals to housekeeping to medication reminders and more. Well she shocked us all by signing up! She gets to retain her independence and her dog which was a big concern and my Brother and I enjoy the comfort and securi-ty of knowing that help is always at hand. They see her every day when they deliver her meals or come to clean or pick up her laundry and she has a call bell that can summon help anytime of the day or night. Another plus is that she has made friends with people both in the facility and the other apartments. So yes it was a compro-mise but in my view it was a win-win!

May is the perfect time to visit the Po-cono Mountains of Pennsylvania, and a great time to visit the Country Quilterie, at 2783 Route 115, Car-riage House Square, Effort, PA 18330. Visit Carriage House Square and bring a picnic basket. Have lunch or a snack at our picnic table area, or relax on one of the benches on our deck, adjacent to Santa's Workshop, overlook-ing Pohopoco Creek. Bring your camera and take pictures at our photo spots. Did you know that Carriage House Square was voted one of just seventy com-mercial complexes in the entire United States and Canada as outstanding for archi-tecture and design of greenspace in harmo-ny with people, in the new edition of "Ru-ral By Design" by re-nowned author, Ran-dall Arendt. This book is required reading by architec-tural students and is available at most li-braries, and for sale through Amazon, com Flowers are bloom-ing, Pohopoco Creek is flowing and filled with trout, and our store is bursting with hundreds of new fab-rics for spring, sum-mer, fall and holiday projects. This month we are offering twenty per-cent off all thread. We've stocked our shelves with Mettler and Signature threads, in a rainbow of colors, for all your sewing needs. Our customers are the friendliest and nicest people, and we reward each and ev-ery one of them with our "Nice Person Dis-count" (ten percent off the regular retail price on all fabrics, books, patterns and notions at the Country Quil-terie). Check out the brand new patterns that have just arrived. Browse through a vast selec-tion of quilting books. Be sure to visit our special clearance sec-tion on the second floor, for a huge se-

Country Quilterielection of first quality, one-hundred percent cotton fabrics, with a retail value of up to $12.00 per yard, on sale at just $4.99 and $5.99 per yard, Come see our col-lection of one-of-a-kind heirloom quality quilts, made by our own quilt artists, right

here in Effort, PA. Only our finest qual-ity fabrics are used to make these quilts, which are lovingly handcrafted by our quilters. These "Coun-try Quilterie Hand-crafted Quilts" brand quilts are registered in the State of Pennsylva-nia, and are not avail-able anywhere else. Whie you are here,

visit our Quilting Academy, located at 2785 Route 115, at Car-riage House Square, in Effort, PA and see quilts being made. The Quilting Acade-my offers day, evening and weekend classes for beginner, interme-diate and advanced quilters. Open Sew is held on Tuesdays and

(NAPSA)-Forget about spotting the

proverbial robin. For many, the first real sign of Spring is get-ting their lawn mower and other small-en-gine equipment out of storage and ready for the season. But before you rev

up the motor, it’s im-portant to remember that your equipment has been sitting for months and you need to take proper steps to get it in working order.Continued on Page 11

Proper preparation yields a variety of ben-efits, including better performance, saved maintenance costs and maximizing the life of your machine. To help get your ma-chines ready for the season ahead, here are some tips to get you started. • Clean ‘em up. Af-ter sitting in a storage shed for a few months, your machines have likely acquired a nice layer of dust, dirt and grime. Make sure to do a thorough cleaning of

the entire machine and check for any damage or possible blockages. • Never a dull moment. If you are working on your lawn mower, hedge trim-mer or any other ma-chine with a blade, the

Spring tune-up is an excellent time to make sure it’s in prime cut-ting shape. The blade should be sharpened at least once a year. While the blade is off, it’s also a good time to finish cleaning the underside of the ma-chine. • Don’t forget the filter. It’s a good idea to start the season with a clean filter. If the ma-chine has a foam filter, you can clean it with soap and water. How-ever, if it’s a paper fil-

ter, it’s best to replace it with a new one. • A well-oiled ma-chine. Whether it’s a lawn mower, motorcy-cle or ATV, small-en-gine equipment will work better if it’s well lubricated, particu-

larly if it has been in storage. Make sure to oil the wheel bearings and other moving parts. • Prepare your en-gine. To make sure your engine starts up on the first try this

Spring, try a fuel addi-tive such as Start Your Engines! It’s a fuel re-vitalizer designed for use with any small 2- and 4-cycle motors that have been sitting in storage and are ready to reactivate.

Just pour it directly into the gas tank, and the engine should start up fast, hassle-free. As an added bonus, it attacks and dissolves any gum or varnish buildup.Continued on Page 12

The survey also found that more than two in five Americans expect-ed their winter home energy costs to stay the same compared to last winter, while a quarter expected costs to decrease. less. This can be cause for concern, consid-ering the disparity between reality and expectations of home-owners on matters of emergency home re-pairs. Sixty-nine per-cent of homeowners thought it unlikely

they would experi-ence a major home repair emergency in the next 12 months-but more than half reported having expe-rienced one in the last 12 months.

(NAPS) - When your need to haul stuff for work or DIY proj-ects around the yard, a pickup truck is invalu-able. The downfall of pickup trucks is the lack of secure storage and ability to carry longer items. Truck boxes and racks are a perfect solution for these challenges.

Truck Rack Facts For the workman looking for tough, well-build storage and carrying solutions, there are many op-tions on the market. Here are some features to look for when you are in the market: • Because your truck will be exposed to the elements, look for items made of aluminum. Not only are aluminum prod-ucts rust resistant,

they are much lighter without compromis-ing strength. Tradi-tional steel truck racks can weigh up to 200 pounds, eating up a significant portion of the truck bed’s weight capacity and decreas-ing gas mileage. • For a higher-qual-ity finish and more style, look for racks and boxes that have been powder coated. This will also provide longer life to these

Rack Up Some Extra Space On Your Vehicle

products. • Because of their surface area, look for racks that are aerody-namic. This helps to slice through the wind and keep any wind noise to a minimum. • Some racks are equipped with dual T-slot channels in crossbars, enabling you to mount acces-sories on the top or bottom of the crossbar and store things below the rack.

• Only some of the many options you see on shelves and online are made in the U.S.A., which many people prefer.

Best Chest In addition, you can improve your truck’s storage capacity with lightweight aluminum or tough steel utility chests, boxes, under-mount, cases and even special cages for trans-porting dogs.

Loading Tips

Once your truck is fully equipped, load-ing it up can be easier if you heed six hints: 1. Load the heavi-est items first, in front and on the floor. 2. Load lightest items last, on the top and to the rear. 3. Pack all items closely and firmly. 4. Secure partial loads with straps, as close to the front of the cargo area as pos-sible.

5. Never load car-go on the outside of a truck. 6. Always be sure the cargo door is closed and latched se-curely.

Learn More For further facts on truck racks and boxes, go to www.UWWSTA.com and www.Tra-cRac.com or call (800) 432-4685.
