LEADER IN LGBT HEALTHCARE EQUALITYOregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is committed to ensuring that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender patients and their families are welcomed, respected and given culturally competent care. OHSU’s goal is to provide healthcare services that offer quality care for all of our patients. OHSU continues to strengthen its services and programs to ensure that they are inclusive and culturally appropriate to serve the needs of Oregon’s diverse patient population.

OHSU earned top marks in meeting non-discrimination and training criteria that demonstrate its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients, and their families, who can face significant challenges in securing the quality health care and respect they deserve.

The Healthcare Equality Index offers healthcare facilities unique and powerful resources designed to help provide equal care to a LGBT patients, as well as assistance in complying with

new regulatory requirements and access to high-quality staff training. OHSU was honored for meeting key criteria, including patient and employee non-discrimination policies that specifically mention sexual orientation and gender identity, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents, and LGBT health education for key staff members.

Inclusive Medical Services for LGBT Patients

OHSU RICHMOND CLINIC: 503 418-3900 In partnership with TransActive Gender Center, the Richmond Clinic ensuresaccess to primary care for gender nonconforming youth and their families. They take referrals for primary care and host regular meetings for youth and family support. Providers offer culturally sensitive care to LGBT individuals, including primary and behavioral healthcare and hormone therapy to transgender adults.

DIVISION OF PLASTIC SURGERY: 503 494-6687 OHSU’s Division of Plastic Surgery providers are committed to providing safe, culturally competent care for all patients. The division offers comprehensive reconstructive and cosmetic services for all, including the LGB and transgender/gender nonconforming communities. Services include gender confirmation surgeries, cancer reconstruction, hand surgery and cosmetic services.

DEPARTMENT OF UROLOGY: 503 346-1500 The OHSU Department of Urology provides specialist care with compassion and respect to all people. Fellowship-trained urologists cover all aspects of urologic care, including male sexual and fertility health, urinary and bladder problems, and urologic cancer screening and treatment. Reconstructive urologists offer gender-affirming surgery, as well as care for people who have had complications of gender transition surgery elsewhere.

OHSU CENTER FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH: 503 418-4500 The OHSU Center for Women’s Health is the only National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health in the Northwest. The Center provides patient centered, comprehensive, safe and affirming care for all patients, including the LGBT community. The Center provides a full spectrum of sensitive, evidence-based gynecologic and obstetric services and care. The Center also offers specialists in gender-affirming care and surgery. OHSU FERTILITY CLINIC: 503 418-4500 The OHSU Fertility Clinic offers comprehensive fertility services to same-sex cou-ples and single persons to assist with family-building options. The Clinic provides affordable care in a supportive environment. Fertility services include donor insemination, ovulation induction, in-vitro fertilization (including “co-maternity” i.e. the use of one partner’s eggs and the other partner’s uterus), egg donation, and gestational surrogacy. The Clinic offers fertility preservation services including egg, sperm, embryo, and ovarian tissue freezing.

DIVISION OF PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY: 503 494-1926 The OHSU/Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Division of Pediatric Endocrinology offers comprehensive medical care and education to gender-variant and transgender youth and their families in a safe and inclusive environment. Services include consultations, pubertal suppression, hormone therapy, legal support and transition to adult services. Partnership with the Department of Child Psychiatry, advocacy groups and mental health providers ensures access to services that support youth and their families through transition.

Comprehensive Resources for Transgender Health

OHSU TRANSGENDER HEALTH PROGRAM provides safe, comprehensive, affirming health care for the transgender and gender-nonconforming communities. The OHSU Transgender Health Program seeks to improve the community’s overall well-being through education, research, and leadership that responds to the health care needs of transgender and gender non-conforming people. HIV Prevention & Screening Services for LGBT Patients

OHSU PARTNERSHIP PROJECT provides a comprehensive array of services to people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. Their Medical Case Management Program provides care coordination services to more than 900 patients a year who access HIV care at OHSU and other health systems. The Prevention Counseling program provides risk reduction counseling to those living with HIV/AIDS. OHSU Partnership Project provides education and outreach to a variety of agencies about services and issues specific to the LGBT community. LGBT patients should have healthcare providers with whom they feel comfortable sharing all aspects of their lives. The comprehensive team approach of the OHSU HIV CLINIC/INTERNAL MEDICINE CLINIC includes primary care, mental health and case-management services to those living with HIV. Mental Health & Addictions Services for LGBT Patients

OHSU AVEL GORDLY CENTER FOR HEALING offers LGBT-sensitive and LGBT- responsive services ranging from individual counseling for LGBT community members to couples and family counseling. The Center offers counseling for depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse and dependence, grief, as well as relationship and work-life issues. To make an appointment, call 503 418-5311.

Academic Opportunities

As Oregon’s only academic health center, OHSU is responsible for educating the physicians, nurses, dentists and other healthcare professionals who will make up the majority of Oregon’s future healthcare providers. OHSU’s educational programs are committed to diversity and inclusion and foster a welcoming environment for LGBT residents and students.
