The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a signature effort to invest in the

Introduction

The idea of Servant leadership emerged nearly 40 years ago from the works of

Robert Green leaf and has revolutionized the way many workplaces function.

His job was to educate and train leaders and managers. Through this work,

Greenleaf concluded that the most effective leaders were focused on serving others

— their colleagues, their customers, and their communities.

Conclusion

Former U.S. President Harry S. Truman once said, “It’s amazing what you can

accomplish if you don’t care who gets the credit.” Because servant-leaders

appreciate their team members as special and unique individuals, they are more

likely to embrace and foster diversity within their work environments. Through

this lens, leadership is no longer a position, as the team delivers the solution, and

the resulting outcome which is happily celebrated.
