• The kick-off conference of the project “Setting up the Structure of a Danube River Forum” was held on 17-19 September in Budapest and Mohács (Hungary)
• The main goal of this project is the establishment of a regular cooperation platform, the Danube River Forum (DARIF) by mid-2015
• The DARIF will enable participating countries to discuss arising issues in connection with the safety and security of Danube river transport
• The project is coordinated by Hungary, with the partnership of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Federal Republic of Germany, and with the financial support of the Prevention of and Fight against Crime Programme (ISEC) of the European Union

• The Danube Commission’s Workshop "A prosperous future for the Danube navigation" was organized on 17 September 2013 at the premises of the Secretariat of the Danube Commission (DC)
• Navigation companies from the region, industry, as well as participants from Hungary, Serbia, Austria, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Germany and Croatia also attended the Workshop
• The participants discussed a view of the Danube navigation’s sector on the following issues: navigational problems, bottlenecks, low and high water levels, cooperation with competent authorities, locks, lack of crew, old fleet, etc.
• The participants agreed and welcomed efforts of the Secretariat of the DC in creating a dialog between industry and the DC

High Level Meetings
• High-level meeting "Danube Navigation – a European Perspective" (9 October 2013)
• Participants: TEN-T coordinator European Commission, Mrs. K. Peijs, EUSDR- coordinators of the steering commitee PA 1a, Permanent Representatives of the DC member states
• Objectives: to strengthen cooperation and collaboration between DC and EC, to attract more political committment for solving infrastructural deficiencies
on the Danube river, to find an adequate common approach to unblock existing bottlenecks for
navigation on the Danube river, to receive a feedback over the list of projects sent to DG MOVE, EC when
designing the EUSDR

High Level Meetings( cont. )
• The Representatives of the DC’s Member States called for an increased cooperation between the EC and their states, in raising awareness about the ongoing implementation of the EUSDR, bringing together financial opportunities and infrastructure challenges of the Danube region
• All participants agreed on the imperative need for further coordination, strengthened cooperation and consultation processes between the European Commission and the Danube Commission
