About the role

Serendipity is looking to recruit a Marketing and Communications Manager. This new post comes at an

exciting time in the organisation’s development and will make a significant contribution to achieving

Serendipity ambitions including:

Raising the positive profile of Serendipity and the impact of its work, regionally, nationally and

internationally, broadening perceptions of Let’s Dance International Frontiers, Black History Month,

BlackChat and Archiving the Past, Reflecting the Future and LDIF+ demonstrating the excellence

Increasing Serendipity’s audiences through engagement with schools, FE, HE and the public;

Creating strong networks of champions and supporters of our work, building deeper relationships and

partnerships with key stakeholders, funders and audiences;

Ensuring Serendipity has a strong and consistent brand identity and articulates clear and compelling

key organisational messages.

Supporting the business’ commercial growth targets for its developing product and service

propositions.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Marketing and Communications Manager will primarily be responsible for the strategic leadership

and operational delivery of marketing and communications of Serendipity, including the implementation of

branding, development of our current and prospective audiences and driving forward the digital and

commercial agenda.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Communications, Marketing and PR

The Marketing and Communications Manager will develop and implement targeted and

compelling marketing and communications strategies, which are fundamental to achieving

Serendipity mission, aims and objectives.

Planning, implementing and evaluating all marketing and communications activities, including the

design and production of promotional and advocacy materials, e-marketing, distribution, direct

mail, copywriting, advertising and any other promotional activities.

Setting audience development and sales targets in conjunction with the CEO and Artistic

Director, Administrator and the Creative Development Manager for Serendipity’s activities and

events.

Ensuring set up of event booking systems for all Serendipity events and activities;

Collating and analysing marketing and booking data for activities and events on a regular basis

to ensure the strategic effectiveness of resource allocation.

Working with the CEO and Artistic Director to build strong supporter relationships, provide

communications support for fundraising campaigns and PR initiatives, and contribute to funding

applications and reports.

Liaising with Serendipity’s PR consultant on press and media, including sharing key information

and images. Keeping a record of press and media coverage.

Managing the regular schedule of communications with key audience segments, including

community groups, schools, colleges, audiences, supporters and funders.

Promoting Serendipity’s publications with key audiences.

Promoting, developing and coordinating the management of Serendipity’s membership scheme.

Completing key reporting criteria for funders and stakeholders such as Audience Finder

and the Insight Tool Kit.

Brand Management

Championing, protecting and enhancing the profile of Serendipity regionally, nationally and

internationally through the development and implementation of an effective PR strategy,

campaigns and media activity.

Undertaking proactive management of Serendipity’s reputation;

Leading on branding guidelines and brand development.

Audience Development

Undertaking or commissioning audience research to better understand Serendipity’s current and

potential target audiences and reach, and to inform strategic approaches;

Working with Serendipity’s team to raise awareness of, and engagement with, our programmes

across a rich and diversity landscape covering age, gender and cultural heritage.

The role will be responsible for working with the Serendipity team and external partners and HE

to ensure delivery of the LDIF+ and online courses.

Digital

Developing and implementing appropriate digital strategies to support Serendipity’s audience

development and communications needs.

Overseeing the ongoing development and management of Serendipity’s company website;

Managing Serendipity’s online presence, including effective use of email marketing and social media

platforms to effectively engage with wider audiences, contributing to creation and distribution of

digital content (including audio and video recordings) and training the wider network of Serendipity

team members to become proficient social media users/leads.

Supporting the development and distribution of digital apps.

Developing and distributing Serendipity’s e-Books.

Developing and implementing appropriate on-line tools to communicate with our organisation and

audiences effectively.

Monitoring and updating Serendipity’s Box Office system (Woo Commerce) and producing reports.

Print Production

Copyrighting, proofing and working with designers on three brochures per year.

Copyrighting, proofing and designing supplementary print; leaflets, posters, postcards throughout

the year.

Supporting Serendipity on production and promotion of Serendipity publications.

Other

Managing delegated communications and audience development budgets working to maximise

income and minimise expenditure.

Developing an effective internal communications strategy.

Undertaking regular monitoring and evaluation against objectives to provide information to contribute

to Serendipity’s performance management processes as required, including preparation and

presentation of reports to management and trustees.

Commissioning, supervising and monitoring the work of external suppliers, including artists,

designers, printers, PR and media support, photographers and film-makers and consultants.

Work closely with the Creative Development Manager on the commercialisation of products and

services.

Leading on the development of Serendipity’s merchandise for both commercial and promotional

purposes, ensuing effective promotion, distribution and sales.

Managing key stakeholder relationships as required.

Maintain accurate records of business activities and transactions in relation to duties.

Horizon scan for potential relevant opportunities as part of periodic review processes.

General duties and responsibilities

Carry out such other duties as may be reasonably requested by their line manager, or any more

senior manager commensurate with the grade of the role.

This is a full-time post with a salary of £25,000. The post has an annual leave entitlement of 28 days per

annum (including Bank Holidays). Staff are automatically enrolled in the company pension scheme.

The post-holder will be required to travel to Serendipity activities and events as necessary. These events

may take place outside of normal working time and time off in lieu will apply on such occasions.
