We are looking for a dedicated, small team of deliverers/distributors for this magazine, Huntingdon’s favourite magazine, Huntingdon LIVE. You will be paid per magazine delivered.
We need a team that will provide a letterbox delivery service to a range of homes and businesses on a regular and professional basis. If you live in Huntingdon, Stukeley Meadows, Godmanchester or Brampton, we would love to hear from you.
You will take responsibility for your local area and commit to deliver our magazine through letterboxes, each issue: that’s every two months. The delivery period is usually 7-8 days at the end of every second month.
If you and a group of friends wish to join together and cover a wider area, then we are happy to look at those options.
The first delivery period will be at the end of October, so please register your interest straight away to: [email protected] or [email protected] or call 01480 450250.
Please supply your name and postcode area where you live, and a summary of the delivery area you would be interested in handling, and, if possible the postcode(s) areas and number of homes/businesses you would like to cover. Or we can work an area out for you.
Don’t delay – Apply today!
And remember, include your full contact details so that we can get back to you.
We need you! Like to keep fit? Like fresh air and walking? Getting paid too?
Huntingdon welcomes new lifesaving device
Funding from BID Huntingdon has allowed a community defibrillator, stored in a yellow cabinet, to be installed by the lifts to the car park in St Benedict’s Court, Huntingdon.
The automated external defibrillator (AED) is a life saving device and a vital piece of first aid equipment, which can be used by members of the public under the guidance of the ambulance service to assist in the early treatment of sudden cardiac arrest until help arrives. On contacting the emergency services via 999 the combination required to access the cabinet containing the AED will be given.
AEDs dramatically increase the chance of survival from 9% to 50% when compared to the use of CPR alone following a sudden cardiac arrest. They can be used without training in an emergency as full instructions are given audibly from the device and can be used by anyone to shock a person’s heart back into normal rhythm.
Sue Bradshaw, BID Huntingdon Manager, said, “We are delighted to provide this piece of life saving equipment for the community and our visitors. Our BID Rangers will receive additional training in its use and, although we hope this will not be required, it is re-assuring to know that the AED is available should the need arise.”
BID Huntingdon would like to thank St Benedict’s Court for their in-kind support.

September/October 2016
Visitors to Huntingdon are now welcomed with a new and inviting landscape at the traffic island triangle near The Old Bridge Hotel. Our team, BID Huntingdon, has been instrumental in improving this area; just one of our many initiatives to improve the environment and public image of the town centre.
The scheme, however, was not without its problems. The original design was for the removal of the railings and installation of high quality paving, trees, shrubs and a Welcome to Huntingdon sign.
The bulk of the cost was met by BID Huntingdon raised from successful enterprises since its start in 2012 and, importantly, without the need to use any funds from the levy paid by businesses within the Business Improvement District (BID) area. ‘In-kind’ help was welcomed from Huntindonshire District Council engineers and Breheny Construction with additional funding from Alconbury Weald developers and Cambridgeshire County Council Cycling who helped with paving costs.
Work started in February 2016 but the difficulties were not over: The discovery of skeletons on site meant work had to be shut down whilst County Archaeologists investigated. The new ‘Welcome’ sign hit controversy when residents voiced their concern over its lack of ‘heritage’. We listened and the signs have been redesigned to be more sympathetic to the area. All is now complete and the finished design has been met with pleasing feedback.

• Drinking milk or putting a spoonful of yoghurt in your mouth is the best way to relieve the burning sensation of chillies.
• Chillies can help fight off winter colds and eating them releases endorphins that help lift the spirits. They contain more Vitamin C than oranges, more Vitamin A than carrots and such high levels of Vitamin D that some athletes eat them prior to exercising to reduce the risk of injury.

Do you know your chillies?
• Be careful when trying new chillies as the burning sensation of some, like the Chiltepin, is explosive and subsides quickly whereas the heat of others, like the Habanero, builds slowly.

A splendid renovation has been achieved and Sandford House bar and restaurant is now open at the site of the old Huntingdon Post Office in George Street.
Your Huntingdon First team went along to the recent opening and received an incredibly warm welcome on a sunny day. It’s well worth a visit, not only for the food and refreshments but also for the history displayed on the walls. Beautifully converted!
Sandford House is open 7am - midnight Sunday to Thursday and 7am - 1am Friday and Saturday. Food is served daily until 11pm.
The new bar specialises in real ales, craft and world beers, draught ales and bottled beers including those from local and regional brewers.
It has wheelchair access and a ‘Changing Places’ toilet for people with disabilities or who are unable to use standard facilities.
A little bit of history …Before it became a post office, this Grade II listed building was a substantial private home belonging to coach builder Charles Sandford Wendover and was known as Sandford House.
The adjacent factory made carriages for Royalty and then turned its hand to custom-built car bodies, including 800 for Rolls Royce.
