FOOD DRIVE - November 11, 18 TRIP - November 23-25, 2012

A VISIT TO BAJA by Jim Purser

On last Saturday, August 25, Ralph Conone, Greg Roberts,

Dean Monahan, Monica Balbuena, Stephanie Purser, and

Jim Purser made a day trip to the El Nino neighborhood in

East Tijuana. The trip had a three part purpose:

First, the group delivered a carload of donated household

goods and small appliances to the Lo Mejor del Trigo church for distribution in the local neighborhood.

Second, the group participated in distributing backpacks, school supplies, uniforms, and shoes to approximately 140

students sponsored for the new school year by members of Irvine Presbyterian Church and SCPC. The students

sponsored in this initiative ranged from elementary school to college age.

Finally, the group visited with the residents of the “Campania de Fe” hospice and surveyed the facilities for future upgrades

and maintenance needs. In addition to a much needed upgrade of the resident bath area, we identified further

improvements in terms of maintenance on the roof, painting, and other structural repairs.

It was good to see the additions and improvements at Lo Mejor del Trigo and the hospice as well as spend time with the two

boys we are sponsoring for the second year.
