The Dangerous Act of Loving Your Neighbor by Mark Labberton

    What do you see?

"Too often when we look at people we see either problems and inconveniences or the

hope that they will be perhaps a little more like me. When we begin to see others with

the eyes of Jesus, the stage is set not only for our own heart change but for a change in the world where life, authenticity, community

    and justice can flourish."

Come join Ron Eckert, Associate Director of Yosemite Sierra Summer Camp and Emerald Cove Day Camp and SCPC (Parish Associate) ,

and Ryan "Lars" Gosling and build muscles for community life: consideration, seeing, renaming, and practicing…The Dangerous Act of

We plan to take an intergenerational team of

10-12 people ranging in age from teenagers

    to 70 year olds.

We will serve with our partners: Fishers

Trainers and Senders, Chiefs Ministry and the

Nkhoma Youth Department. We will visit our

    partners: Nkhoma Hospital, World Vision

sponsored children and Opportunity International Bank of Malawi

clients. We will worship with a local church on Sunday and if possible

climb Mt. Nkhoma with some of our partners. We will serve in

whatever ways our partners need us. The cost will be about $4,000.

To learn more about our Y-Malawi partnership and this trip, attend one

of the following information meetings: at 9:00 am or 10:45 am on

One of the Breakout Sessions will be:

Better Together – Lessons Learned About Citizen Dialogue by Dr.

    Daniel Wehrenfennig

This session will discuss the theory and best practices of peace-

building and the important role of citizen dialogue in this process,

using examples from the Middle East, South Caucasus, Northern

    Ireland and the colleague campuses.

Dr. Daniel Wehrenfennig is the Executive

Director of the Olive Tree Initiative, an

    award-winning international experiential

learning program that brings students and

    community members on annual educational

fact-finding trips to conflict zones around

the world (Middle East, Caucasus). He also directs the Certificate

Program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at the University of

    California, Irvine (UCI).

LEARNING ABOUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING By Jan Galati

The issue of human trafficking is one I truthfully would like to believe doesn't exist

here in San Clemente or Orange County. But it's just not the case and I believe the

more we talk about it, the more people will be willing to learn how they can make a

difference. Think of the lives that can be changed. One exciting thing I learned at the meeting on Monday,

January 11, is that across the nation, people are joining the fight. A woman visiting here from Syracuse, New

York is actively involved in her area. Yay!

I am reminded of a Scripture verse from Matthew 25:40 "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least

of these my brothers, you did it to me." These enslaved people are God's children and they need our help.

God has led me to be the treasurer for the i5 Freedom Network, a local non-profit started as an offshoot of Hagar's Hope.

To learn how you can be involved, contact Brenda Wells at [email protected].

Jan with Debbie Knutson and Gay

Redcay at the January 11 meeting

On Sunday, December 20, all 3 services packed out the sanctuary for a bi-lingual celebration of God's faithfulness in our church. Following the service we celebrated over tamales and tacos at the All Church Fiesta.
