Back to School Newsletter White Settlement ISD 2018-2019
A Message From Our Superintendent
Empowering Students I hope you and your kids are having an awesome summer! We are so excited about the upcoming school year, and our team is working diligently to prepare for the arrival of our Bears on Aug. 21. This year, students in grades 7 through 12 will receive a Dell Laptop for school and home use. And, every fifth and sixth grader will receive a laptop at school. Every child will have a device in these grades, and current iPads at Tannahill will be distributed to the elementary schools. WSISD was recently named a Common Sense Media District as a result of our continued efforts to ensure that students become safe, responsible technology users.
Empowering Families WSISD and our schools provide a variety of avenues for our families to be involved because we believe it’s crucial to our students’ success.
We have many family events planned this year including our 9th annual Mad Scientist Night, our 2nd annual Bear Bytes Technology Expo, a Family Game Challenge, our 3rd annual Dodgeball Tournament, and more! We hope you will have the op-portunity to attend with your child. If you haven’t already, sign up for Gradebook/Family Access, which provides your child’s grades, attendance and class schedule. Also, sign up for Canvas, which houses assignments, expectations, class presentations, and more. Stay connected by also visiting our website regularly, wsisd.com, and by following WSISD and our schools on social media. Also, make sure your phone and email are always accurate in our system so you can receive information via our Skylert system.
Empowering Staff to Keep Kids Safe Your children are your most prized possessions, and we do not take it lightly that you’ve entrusted us to educate them in a safe learning environment. We continually evaluate our safety procedures to ensure that we are doing all we can to keep our kids and our staff safe. WSISD will implement the Standard Response Protocol Safety Training (from the I Love You Guys Foundation) and provide training to all staff prior to the start of school. Our officers will also attend additional active shooter trainings this summer and share the information they receive with our crisis team, comprised of approximately 70 team members throughout the district. We also upgraded our security camera system district-wide and added cameras. For the past two years, we’ve upgraded and improved the vestibules to the main offices at every school. Outside visitors do not have access to the main school building before being buzzed through at least one locked door. We will continue to make every effort to enhance safety in WSISD. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer! See you in August!

The link will also be posted on the home page of the website, www.wsisd.com. The system allows WSISD to verify all student demographic, emergency and medical information for your child prior to the start of the school year.
