Presidents Message Welcome to the ECWGG 2018 season! Hoping the weather turns nice real soon . . . at least on Tuesdays! I have spent a fair amount of time updating our website: www.ecwgg.com. The Member Directory will be the last thing to update, once we have most of the ap- plications submitted. Corinne McKean has agreed to put the Membership Directory together this year – which will be handed out at our opening brunch – and will be available at the Day’s Play table until all are claimed. As new members join throughout the summer, the website will have the current listing. The schedule has been tweaked somewhat since I sent out the preliminary version. Mostly just game changes – so please take another look at the schedule on the web- site since the printed version will not be available for another month. We are going ‘digital’ with the sign ups for helping at the Day’s Play check-in table. Thanks to Pati Schmitt for finding an app to assist with that. Everyone should have received an email with the instructions for signing up to volunteer with check-in. The board has been working hard to make this season one of the best! We have lots of new members on the board, so please take the opportunity to thank each one for their volunteer efforts. We have lost a few members, many of whom moved out of Eagle Crest. But, we have gained 5 new members to date. Please welcome: Lexie Bakewell, Carrie Dulay, Mary Moore, Merilee Silverstein, and Sandy Steiger. Please introduce yourself and join me in welcoming each new member. Hope to see you all out on the golf course! Presidents Message

Welcome to the ECWGG 2018 season! Hoping the weather turns nice real soon . . . at least on Tuesdays!

I have spent a fair amount of time updating our website: www.ecwgg.com. The Member Directory will be the last thing to update, once we have most of the ap-plications submitted.

Mostly just game changes – so please take another look at the schedule on the web-site since the printed version will not be available for another month.

Jeanne Kosanovic

Day’s Play Welcome Ladies to a new season of spectacular golf and reigniting or making some new golf friendships! Our 2018 schedule is chock-full of 30 Tuesday Day’s Play Events, along with Senior Women Group events, TEAM competition and Visitation Tournament events. Our ECWGG President, Jeanne Kosanovic, has been busy updating our website (www.ecwgg.-com) with current season information, including the schedule. Be sure to check that out, along with revisions and/or clarifications to a few of our game descriptions. We look for-ward to seeing you on Tuesdays at our check-in table!

Speaking of our check-in table, we are looking for volunteers to assist with the morning check-ins. This year, we have a new tool to enable you to pick dates and sign up as a volun-teer on your smart phone or your computer, or on the sheet on the check-in table. If you can, please pick a couple of dates. You will receive an email soon from Jeanne with a link to SignUp.com. There is no need to create an account on the site – just select your date and put in your name and email address. Although there are ads on the site, your email address is only provided so that the system can generate reminders to Day’s Play coordinators and to you. The tool is provided free for not-for-profit groups just like ours!

Eclectic Information

Dianne Rogers ([email protected])

This year our designated course will be the Resort course. For those of you who are new to ECWGG, you may be wondering what does this mean ? Your eclectic score is an individual competition with yourself. As your eclectic chairperson, I will track your Resort scores for this season. At the end, I will calculate your best score for each hole, gross and net and come up with a final eclectic score for each player. At our closing luncheon, two flights will be paid out for ten places, both gross and net. The more you play, the better your chances of im-proving your score! This is a great opportunity for 40 women to win a little cash at the end of our season!

In addition, I will track your birdies for all three of our courses. PLEASE CIRCLE OR IN-DICATE YOUR BIRDIES ON YOUR SCORE CARDS. Birdie pins will be awarded at the end of our season. Also, there will be a Most Improved Player awarded, determined by The Official Handicap report.

Remember, in order to receive any awards, you must play five times on any of our three courses. If you are a mentor to one of our new members, please go over this information in-dividually with them so they have a good understanding of this eclectic information. If any member has a question about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

RULES

April 2018

Rules – chairperson Judy Soeten

OGA will not be conducting a rules seminar in our area this spring. We are anticipating a workshop in the fall. This should allow for the 2019 Rules updates to be presented.

The OGA website offers the Rule of the month, quizzes and decisions on the rules.

This year, we hope to invite Kevin to join us on a Rules Q and A discussion following Days Play. The date will be announced.

Enjoy the season and KNOW KNOW KNOW The Rules.

Treasurer Report Welcome to the 2018 Golf Season! The 2017 financial records were verified by member Diane Anderson and we began the year with $3,856.46 in the bank. A holiday sale of golf balls added $65 which will be used toward the cost of purchasing the materials needed for the Memorial Circle. So far, 62 ladies have paid their 2018 dues and 52 members have chosen to participate in the hole-in-one contest. This brings the bank account balance to $7,281.46. We continue to work on the 2018 budget. Initial projections began with 80 member and 75 member scenarios. Hopefully, our membership will grow to at least 75. The project-ed expenditures for the year: Opening Luncheon, membership books, team dues, coffee for mixer, Circle of Friends, supplies, Club Championship, Final Luncheon, awards, name tags, engraving, Memorial Circle, and a small contingency for unforeseen items will be funded out of dues and the annual handicap refund. The total we will have to work with depends on membership numbers. Please encourage all of your friends who have not yet joined to do so. Self-sustaining items are Hole-in-One, Days Play, Partners Tournament, Member/Guest and the Whine & Wine event. I am always available to answer any questions at [email protected] or (360) 431-4119. I look forward to seeing all of you very soon!!

Jerri Henry

Review for Handicap Season

Why is it important to have an accurate Handicap Index? Do you know the difference between your Index and Course Handicap? Do you know what Equitable Stroke Control means and how to apply it during a round? If you do, then you will have no problem keeping an accurate Handicap Index.

For those that are unclear, or need a reminder, our Handicap Index is updated on the 15th and last day of every month. Your Handicap Index is used to determine your Course Handicap based on the course being played. These adjustments are generally printed on our day’s play scorecards. Also, most courses have a conversion chart available to determine your Course Handicap. Your Course Handicap determines the max-imum score you can take on a given hole based on the following chart:

Have you ever failed to post a score using the following excuses?

• My ball went into the pond and a fish ate it.

• It was dark when I finished playing.

• I fell in the pond on the 16th hole.

• I was just practicing. I practice a lot.

• I don’t want my handicap to go up or down.

• My score was too high/too low.

The list goes on and yes, some sound silly. After attending a handicap certification seminar, I realize the im-portance of posting all scores accurately. An accurate handicap reflects a player’s potential ability which makes the game more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete equitably. “Fairness” is the operative word. And posting accurate scores effects everyone in the club. One of the agreements all our members make is to maintain an accurate handicap as the games we play, that result in a payout, are based on this.

Course Handicap Maximum Score per Hole

up to 9 Double Bogey

10 through 19 7

20 through 29 8

30 through 39 9

40 or higher 10

We are now in the timeframe where scores are to be posted, which is March 1 to November 30. As your handicap officer, it is my job to ensure that members post accurate and timely scores. If you fail to post within 3 days or by the next revision date, whichever comes first, you will be politely reminded to do so. If you post an inaccurate score, you will be notified that it is being corrected and given an explanation as to why. Jim Hawkes will be the person to make this correction.

Please do your best to post accurately so that playing in our events is enjoyable and based on trusting that each person is doing their part to be fair!

TEAM PLAY Team Golf 2018

The 2018 season will have Sunriver as our President’s Club. The schedule of play is posted on our bulletin board. A change to the 2018 play, Sunriver is hosting an Opener versus the final match. This allows for all players to participate, enjoy lunch and review the COWTG policies and rules.

Our Team Captain’s meeting is scheduled for May 11th. We have been asked to submit our Team Roster at that time. Below is a list of requirements for eligibility:

• Players must declare, at the beginning of the season the club they are going to repre-sent. New members to a club are eligible to be placed on the team roster mid- season provided they have not already declared to participate on a different club team.

• A player must be a member of their participating club.

• Players must have a handicap 0-25 and if the handicap is over 25 she must play to a 25.

• Players must play with their home club on their ladies day within 30 days prior to a team competition.

Eligible Eagle Crest players will receive an email in early April in respect to specifics on the team roster.

Kat and I anticipate another successful year.
