Dear Fisherville Family,

As we approach our national “Labor Day” holiday, I

am reminded of the many times the word “labor” is

used in reference to the Christian life.

It is used in reference to our coming to Christ;

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy

laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28)

It is used in reference to our desire for the

spiritual and eternal blessings of God; “Do

not labor for the food which perishes, but for

the food which endures to everlasting

life,” (John 6:27a)

It often references our service for God;

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast,

immovable, always abounding in the work of

the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain

in the Lord.” (I Cor. 15:58)

It references our vocational work; “Let him who

stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor,

working with his hands what is good,” (Eph.

4:28)

It is used for God working through us; “To

this end I also labor, striving according to His

working which works in me mightily.” (Col.

1:29)

It is used to describe diligent Bible Study; “Let the

elders who rule well be counted worthy of

double honor, especially those who labor in the

word and doctrine.” (I Tim. 5:17)

It also references a dedicated prayer life;

“Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant

of Christ, greets you, always laboring

fervently for you in prayers,” ( Col. 4:12)

There are many other references in the scripture to

our laboring for God, but we will stop here. I

challenge us to look up these references and ask,

“Am I involved in God’s Labor day?”

Bless You,

Bro. Jack

This summer we studied the

poetry of Psalms. Through

this study, God revealed

Himself in many ways and

helped us give voice to our

deepest spiritual needs.

Psalms of praise, prayers of confession, songs of

thanksgiving and celebration; from the realization of

our sin to the reality of His forgiveness, His Word

provides us the words we need but sometimes cannot

find within ourselves.

This Fall, beginning on September 3, we will begin a

study in Exodus and Leviticus. We will see how God

fulfills His promise to free His people from slavery

and form them into a “holy nation.” We will see that

these narratives are not just history, but are His story

of redemption, culminating in the reality of our

redemption through His Son Jesus Christ.

Come and join us as we discover the mighty works of

God in the past as a way to recognize His mighty

works today. Classes for all ages and stages of life

meet at 9:45 AM each Sunday. If you don’t know

which class you should attend, please let me know or

stop by the Welcome Center information desk on

Sunday morning and someone will be glad to help

you.
