“A Spiritual Community”
The 2013 Study Theme is: “Creating Sacred Moments”
Minister’s Message:
Rev. Ahriana
In September, our study topic is “Sense of Place” The interesting thing about the quote below is that it speaks about solitude as a “place.” This month’s focus topic is “Sense of Place” and
that word can be interpreted so many different ways. A “place” can be a physical lo-cation. A “place” can be a state of being. Or, you can “place” something a certain way or in a certain location (place?). We’ll be talking about all three of these in the month of September. What “place” gives you comfort,
makes you feel held and safe? How do you create and locate a place for sa-cred space? What is your inner “place?” Do you have, within you, a place at your center that is solely yours? An inner temple? A
place of solitude, or peace, or pri-vacy? Where do you place your focus, your attention, your interest, your sadness or your joy? What place in your body do you associate with your feelings? And what is your “sense of place” in
the world. Do you identify your place by economic status, lifestyle, gender or race? Do cultural considerations affect your sense of place in life? There are so many questions to ask ourselves and so many ways to examine this topic. September offers us a distinct opportunity to explore our personal opinions and judgments about ourselves and how those opin-ions and judgments affect our daily experience. I hope you’ll plan to join us! We’ll kick off the month with a Guest Speaker on September 1st. My dear friend, Meryl Runion, is an au-thor, professional speaker and trainer — and all around amazing person! I am delighted that she will be kicking off our month! And, the following week, we wel-come the kids back for Sunday Youth Ministry programming. It’s time to bless the Fillmore Center! On Sunday the 8th, after the 11 am service, the Fillmore Center will host an open house. Many of us have never even

the kids welcome us in — to see THEIR sacred space, visit, and offer a
blessing for the new school year. It's a joy-full occasion.
Finally, in September, we’ll begin inviting artists to review the survey
information gathered over the summer in order to design a new symbol for
Unity in the Rockies. Artists who are participants here, or who are referred
by members of Unity in the Rockies, will be invited to submit their designs.

Sing at UITR We are in for a special treat on Sunday September 15th at the 11 am service.
Cathy Bolton, who is a singer, song writer, guitarist and international re-cording artist, will join us to share her music as she travels through Colorado Springs.
For those of you who don’t know Cathy, she has been with us in the past doing the special music and concerts.
For the past 16 years she has been the Music Minister for the Conversa-tions with God Foundation, co-facilitating Spiritual Retreats 4 times a year in Southern Oregon with au-thor and friend Neale Donald Walsch.
This is a Sunday you won’t want to miss.

By the end of the month, Fall will begin to bluster and blow, bringing a change of season — and with it, a change of our “sense of place.” I’m looking forward to cooler weather and the beautiful colors autumn brings.
I look forward to sharing sacred space with you!

Getting to Know Pamela Rabin
By Cathie Hartman
Where did you grow up and what
brought you to Colorado Springs? I was born an Air Force brat and in full circle reality ended up in Manitou Springs after going to elementary school on the Academy. I moved out west for my family and when I dis-covered Unity I learned that my tribe is much larger than I had originally thought! Having always been a gypsy, this community really brought me home and for that, I will forever be blessed and truly grateful.
What brought you to Unity and
how long have you been attending?
A couple of years ago, a dear faerie friend of mine named Robin, and who lives in Key West, Florida, suggested I investigate Unity as she discovered her own Source years ago on the is-land. I did, and I will never forget the first time I attended as it was, again, like coming home...now I know I was brought into the community for pur-pose and as I discover that daily, the message comes with much clarity --- LOVELOVELOVE — and I am blessed...for I have learned of compas-sion, forgiveness and charity...and I am grateful. Thank y'all! What type of work do you do? I am an artist — I love to give and re-
life and limb, I discovered that the dimensional difference between here and heaven, is somewhere I had al-ready been...and last year was given a message to spread and that is of LOVELOVELOVE — so it is LOVE I will share...with you, for experience, for God and to show the world what it is to care...and I will use my life and inspiration to teach and to heal, to write, paint and draw...and make oth-ers think and feel...and help the chil-dren learn and grow, laugh and love.. and at some other times it will be my purpose to show the adults how to deal! I still haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up! Oh wait!! I don't have to!!
Is there anything else you would
like to share with your church fam-
ily? It is with LOVE I bring this mes-sage to you, from my angels, spirit guides and me — mother earth moon universe...keep on being you and blessing the world with all of your worth! I think I just got a message from you!

inspiration and LOVELOVELOVE from any Source — and thank you angels, faeries, spirit guides and mother earth moon universe...for giv-ing me the inspiration and imagination to share the gifts you have given to me! After several years in the corpo-rate world as an advertising/marketing executive, I was in a life altering hap-pen stance that forever changed the trajectory of my life and world by a distant chance...while trying to save
This Month we would like to honor dedicated member Renee Sokoloff for all her Sacred Service. Since coming to Unity in Novem-ber 2011 she has been volunteering on the Fellowship Team. She is also on the Photography Team, which she was the team leader for a while. Recently she became the Events Coordinator, she is also on the cleaning staff and
this year is also on the Women’s Group Retreat Planning Committee. As you can see she has been a very busy lady since coming to UITR. She knows that the only way a person can feel like they belong is to become in-

Are you Being Called to Become a Prayer Chaplain?
Now is the Time to Act --- Here’s How to Do It
The most thorough description of the role and upcoming schedule of training is in the Prayer Chaplain bro-chure, available in the foyer. Most importantly, you can organize your calendar around training dates. Please pick one up to contemplate this com-munity-building and Sacred Service. It is all right if you have never done anything like this before. No prior
experience in prayer or praying with others is required to serve as a Prayer Chaplain. However, you must be an active member of Unity in the Rock-ies. In this program we are committed to reach out in prayer and to support our congregation by praying with con-gregants after each service. Another aspect of the program is the blessed privilege to offer monthly “wellness calls” to all active mem-bers. Every month, each member re-
ceives a call from their Prayer Chap-
lain to offer them prayer support.
The first thing you will want to do is
attend an Orientation on either Wednes-
day, September 4 at 6:30, or Sunday,
September 8 at 1:30. Once you have
done that, you can begin to qualify for
the program. One of the requirements is
to take the Unity Basics class. If you
have not taken it, you can do so in Sep-
tember (see details above).

Deeksha Blessing
Now is the time to give yourself a gift of Oneness. Cre-ate a space in your mind to experience your own Essence,
the Oneness with all, with the God you are within. The Oneness Blessing or Deeksha is a neurological, electrical in-telligent energy that is passed on through a brief hands on transmission. Once we have the constant mind chatter muted, we are in touch with our Higher Selves, our God Self. This is where healing begins. This is where we can contribute to changing the negative vibrations which
are threatening our world…and it feels good. Offered on a love offering basis. If you have questions please contact Berti at 578-9742, or at: www.deekshalady.com.com. Suggested love offering is $10.
(If you can’t afford it, please talk to Berti).
Sunday, September 15th, 1:30 pm in the Sanctuary.
Reiki Sessions Offered If you don’t know what Reiki is, or if you have never
had a Reiki treatment, you are missing out. Reiki is the
Japanese word which means "Universal Life Energy.” That
is the energy that permeates all that is—including us. We
use this energy for healing and growth. All you have to do
is to be open to receive this energy that the Reiki Practitio-
ners of Unity are offering.
Here's how it works, each table will have four Reiki
practitioners per table for each client. So the treatment will
only take 15 to 20 minutes each. This way we can treat
three clients an hour.
There is a appointment sheet with appointment cards on
the bulletin board in the foyer. Sign up for the time that’s
best for you. Please wear comfortable clothes and socks. If
you have any questions please call Berti Greene 578-9742.
Suggested love offering is $10 (If you can’t afford it,
please talk to Berti, because she doesn’t want anyone not to
get treatments who want to have one). All of the money
will go directly to Unity.
So give your self a gift and sign up for a treatment.

September might just be our busiest month of the year in Youth ministries. This is the annual start of our school year program. We have a full slate of activities and our classes range from the nursery up through high school age. During September we will have our Fillmore Center Blessing, new names and faces of not only children, but Sacred Servants as well. The theme for our classes this month is “a sense of place.” We will focus on dis-cussing what our individual place is in this universe. How self is important even when we know that the individ-ual self is part of oneness. If you have not signed up to work with the youth this year I encourage you to do that. The youth program cannot operate on just a few, it takes a village. Please contact Ken Sapp via email, in person or by phone, and let’s

News and current needs Unity in the Rockies is a member church of Westside CARES whose mission is to provide care and com-passion for neighbors on the west side of town who are in need. They assist with emergency needs such as food, utilities, rent and certain clothing and personal needs. At this time they have a few needs that I am confident our community can help with.
Call for Volunteers--- In preparation for Westside CARES upcoming move a number of volunteer positions will be available. They will be increasing the number of existing Neighbor Advocate positions and have created new positions (including Front Desk Reception and Resource Distribu-tion) to accommodate some modest ex-pansion in services. Training for these positions will begin immediately. If you have been thinking of volunteering for Westside CARES and are interested in learning more about volunteer opportu-nities, please contact Deb Mitguard at 389-0759 ext. 108 or [email protected].
Donations Needed--- At this time Westside CARES are
in need of: shampoo, bar soap, dish
soap, conditioner, lotion, new or
gently used socks and new under-
wear for men and women. Right now they have no socks at all and folks who cannot access washing fa-cilities have a desperate need. Please bring items to Unity and place them in the grey donation box in the lobby. Thank you so much for your support of the less fortunate in our community.

On July 27th a group from UITR met at Black Eyed Pea to celebrate Jack and Becky Dunlap’s seventeenth wedding anniversary. For you people who don’t know who they are, Becky was the minister here at UITR from 1995 thru 1998. During her time here she is the one responsible for getting us into this beautiful building. That was quite an accomplishment in such a short time. Becky met Jack here at Unity (he was on the board) and they were soon married. Those who attended were: Laurel

The is-sue of July 29 had articles on urban farming, downsizing living space, acupuncture/dry needling, a local homegrown herb apothecary, ways to live smarter and simpler. I posted it on the “green” bulletin board. Did you know as of May Colorado finally got on the gray-water re-use bandwagon? Now the 30-40 gallons of lightly used treated water from your shower can legally go to your lawn or to refill your toilet bowl. If your wa-ter bills have been as high as ours, this will be a boon indeed!

Make Me Blessing, Lord By James Dillet Freeman
(Former Poet Laurent of Unity)
Make me a blessing, Lord! Help me
To help those needing help, to be A
blessing to my fellow men.
Instruct me when to speak and when
To hold my speech, when to be bold
In giving and when to withhold;
And if I have not strength enough,
Then give me strength. Lord, make
me tough
With my own self but tender toward
All others. Let there be outpoured
On me the gentleness to bless
All who have need of gentleness.
Give me a word, a touch to fill
The lonely life, faith for the ill,
And courage to keep hearts up though
My own is feeling just as low.
When men have bitter things to meet
And quail and would accept defeat,
Then let me lift their eyes to see
The vision of Thy victory.
Help me to help; help me to give
The wisdom and the will to live!
