Dear Brian
Dear Brian is an opportunity for students or parents to write a question for
Brian, Canon for Youth Ministries. Please e-mail questions to Brian at
Dear Brian,
Now that school has started I have to find a way to balance a tough class load, athletics, church
and a social life. There are so many things I want to do, and my parents want me to choose and
won’t let me do it all. How do I decide what to be involved with verses what I need to skip?
Signed,
Having to Choose
Dear Having to Choose,
While the beginning of the school year can be an exciting time full of new experiences, new
friends and new opportunities, it can also be a challenge to find balance. Finding a healthy
balance between school, extra-curricular activities, friends, family and church is essential. When
you spend too much time or energy on one area, the others suffer. While we want to do it all, it is
important that we make sure that we find enough time for every aspect of our life. Jesus was a
great example of striving for balance in his life. Jesus took time to hang out with his friends, the
disciples, he sat and ate with people to get to know them, he spent time alone in prayer and also
found his way to the temple to have fellowship with other believers. He found balance even when
thousands of people wanted to be with him and learn from him. Always strive for the balance in
your life. You are going to have to make some tough choices about what activities you are going to
have time to be a part of. Once you have made those choices, be fully involved and don’t worry
about the things you left behind.
God’s Peace,
Brian
Don’t worry about
anything; instead,
pray about
everything; tell
God your needs,
and don’t forget to
thank him for his
answers. If you do
this, you will
experience God’s
Peace, which is
far more
wonderful than
the human mind
can understand.
His will keep your
thoughts and your
hearts quiet and at
rest as you trust in
Christ Jesus.

Youth Formation Formerly Known As
Youth Sunday School
Sundays 10:15-11:00 AM
Classes Start Sept. 11th A New Format To Go Along
With The New Name
Lest Spring a committee of people gathered to form the Youth Formation
Committee (YFC) to evaluate the current Youth Sunday School program,
survey our parish about youth Sunday School and to develop a new
program if needed. The YFC found through surveys and research
throughout the southeast that we need to do something drastically different
than what has been done in the past. Through much conversation and
prayer we developed our new Youth Formation program that will premiere
on Sunday, September 11th.
The new format is broken into three segments:
10:15-10:30 Social time including breakfast and music
by the youth praise band
10:30-10:45 A lesson using the gospel reading from that week
10:45-11:00 Small group discussions about the lesson by grade and gender
10th graders participating in Confirmation Class will report to the Edward room for class
from 10:30-11:00 AM
