Community of St. Brendan the Navigator
As we are all aware, the pastoral planning process has been ongoing in the Diocese of Norwich for several years. In the New London Deanery there has been some restructuring of parishes, primarily by forming clusters of parishes that would then work together by combining programs and activities to the extent possible. Recently, as we are also aware, there have been some events, namely the death of Father Joseph Whittel and the illness of Msgr. Donohue, which make it necessary to change these cluster arrangements. The Holy Martyrs cluster, originally the parishes of St. Paul, St. Agnes and St. Mathias, will continue, but with only two parishes; St. Agnes and St. Mathias, both under the leadership of Fr. Mullaney. The cluster of St. Brendan the Navigator, currently composed of three parishes, St. Mary, St. Joseph, and Our Lady of Grace, will welcome into its activities the parishioners of St. Paul Parish. These parishes are all under the leadership of Fr. O’Donnell. The newly aligned clusters will continue into the foreseeable future.

Baptism: Baptism is generally celebrated the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month following the 10:00am Mass. New parents must attend a Baptism preparation meeting prior to having their child baptized. Please call the Rectory or visit our website to fill out a form to register your child for Baptism.

We prayed, fasted and gave alms-‐and now we celebrate Easter joy! Our Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends as we encounter our Risen Lord. We reflect on our brothers and sisters we have walked with, and we commit to bringing Easter joy to each person we meet in our daily lives. If you have not already done so, please turn in your rice bowl today.
Twice Blessed: Trinkets to Treasures
Thank you to all the volunteers and community members who have signed up to help with this year’s tag sale scheduled for April 14, 2018, 9am-‐2pm. It’s getting close to the big day!!! Our volunteers have already been busy with behind the scenes tasks. We could still use a few more people to help on the day of the sale if you are available and so inclined. A few hours of donated time would lighten the workload and make this truly a parish-‐wide event. Don’t forget that this is a major fundraiser for the parish and all proceeds will go to The Father Joseph Whittel Memorial Fund. Please save the date. Now that Spring is here, it’s time to “Spring Clean” and declutter. Don’t forget us, as we will be in need of donations: gently used clean household items, unwanted gifts, jewelry, gently used toys, books, clothing, linens, and small appliances are all welcomed. No large furniture please. Volunteers will be ready to accept donations on the following days during the first two weeks in April, beginning April 2, the day after Easter: 9am-‐12pm daily including Saturday (if doors are locked, stop by the rectory office) and Wednesday and Thursday evenings 4pm-‐7pm. No drop offs the day of the sale. Baked goods will also be needed for the bake sale. Please drop off these items on Friday morning (April 13th) or by 9am on Saturday. Bins have been placed in the rear and side entrances of the Church for donations of clean, used plastic grocery bags and packing material. We will need a good supply to wrap items on sale day. Please bring them when you are coming to Mass. Don’t forget that beside the bake and tag sale, we will again be having a Basket Bonanza with some great prizes. Breakfast snacks and lunch will be available, featuring bagels, donuts, Chili, Kielbasa, and more. Come spend the day, it will be fun! Any questions, please call Elaine at 860-‐287-‐3985 or email [email protected]. Thank you in advance for all your support.

2018 EASTER MESSAGE My Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Risen Lord, On this Easter Sunday, may the abiding peace of the Risen Savior be with you, your families and loved ones. May Christ's peace fill our hearts and homes with His love and renew our unity of purpose and good will. Easter celebrates the core belief of our faith, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. "Yes, it is true. The Lord has risen..." (Luke 24:34) Our Lenten journey of repentance, sacrifice and prayerful preparation has brought us to this glorious moment of Easter not as one event in our lives, but as the example of how we live anew every day. The Holy Spirit calls each of us to experience the glory of His resurrection and the fullness of new life it gives us. In the first moments of Easter Vigil, as symbolized by the lighting of the Paschal candle, fire is blessed and its radiant flames overcome the darkness. The Risen Christ illuminates our world with the power of God's love. Sin and death have been defeated and “Christ our Light” leads us out of the darkness to a new day. Enlightened by God's redeeming Word, we witness the celebration of the Baptism and Confirmation of those who receive the Sacraments of Initiation. We are strengthened by God's life in us through the renewal of the Baptismal commitment to follow Jesus. We embrace His Risen life. The power of Jesus' Resurrection and of Easter joy lives in all who seek to be free from sin, in all who strive to be liberated from injustice and in all who yearn to be released from the grip of selfishness and pride. The power of Jesus' Resurrection lives in all who believe in a forgiving, merciful God whose love for us is unyielding. It is that power of the Resurrection that we must share in living as God's people. The message of the empty tomb is not death but new life, not despair but hope, not defeat but victory. Death shall not have the final word. Easter proclaims new life, the fullness of God's love and a way to begin again. Jesus is the way. In Jesus, we experience the living Presence of God and His gift of new life. When we receive and share Jesus' gift, our whole outlook is changed. This is the victory that Easter bestows on us so that we may see the image of the Risen Jesus in one another. In our words and deeds, we must show others that Jesus is alive in us. As we walk with Christ in newness of life, we give glory to God. Easter celebrates the great truth that we are forever made new through Jesus' Resurrection. Selfishness, indifference, pettiness and sin pass away, and in their place, God's love fills our hearts. When we forgive those who wrong us, or when we love and show respect for those who disrespect us, or when we reach out to the alienated and the lonely, care for the sick, give food and clothing to the needy, and visit the confined, the Light of Christ shines through us. God's merciful love is channeled through our kindness, respect, compassion, understanding, and, most of all, our love for others. May the joy of Jesus' victory fill us with hope, strengthen us, and bring us peace. Happy and Holy Easter! Alleluia! Sincerely yours in Christ,
Bishop of Norwich

Walter Nagle at Mass as we pray to end abortion and for the healing for those who have had an abortion. Following the Mass, the Rosary will be prayed both at the Cathedral and Planned Parenthood. A brunch in the Cathedral Hall will follow the Rosary this month.
Defending Religious Liberty
Pope Francis has said: “Religious freedom is not only that of private thought or worship. It is the liberty to live, both privately and publicly, according to the ethical principles resulting from found truth.” This is why it is important that we continue to put pressure on our elected officials to change the federal health care mandate which forces religious institutions to pay for medical procedures that violate their moral principles.
Praise, Worship, and Healing Prayer Service Please join us on Thursday evening, April 5th, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Ave. in Colchester, CT, for an evening of praising and worshiping God with music, teaching, witnessing, and prayer. Deacon Michael Puscas will be teaching on "Moral Relativity." Come and rejoice for answered prayer, seek prayer for yourself or for a burden you're carrying for someone else. If desired, you may also meet with a prayer team for personal, intercessory, or healing prayer. This service is held on the first Thursday every month.
