BLESSED SACRAMENT
Mother Teresa
“People are often unreasonable and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you.
Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough.
Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.”

Liturgical schedule for the forthcoming week (September 5-13, 2020):
READINGS FOR THE 25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME):
FIRST READING (ISAIAH 55.6-9)
Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; let the wicked
person forsake their way, and the unrighteous person their thoughts; let that person
return to the Lord that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will
abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For
as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and
my thoughts than your thoughts.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM (PS 145.2-3, 8-9 , 17-18(R.18))
“The Lord is near to all who call on him.”
SECOND READING (PHILIPPIANS 1.20-24-27)
Brother and sisters: Christ will be exalted now as always in my body, whether by life or
by death. For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. If I am to live ion the flesh, that
means fruitful labour for me; and I do not know which I prefer. I am hard pressed
between the two: my desire is to department and be with Christ, for that is far better;
but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you, Live your life in a manner worthy
of the Gospel of Christ..
GOSPEL (MATTHEW 20.1-16)
Jesus spoke this parable to his disciples: “The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner
who went out early in the morning to hire labourers for his vineyard. After agreeing
with the labourers for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. When he
went out about nine o’clock., he saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and he
said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So
they went.
“When he went out again about noon and about three o’clock, he did the same.
And about five o’clock he went out and found others standing around; and he said
to them, ‘Why are you standing here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one
has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard.’
“Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them
also received the usual daily wage. And when they received it, they grumbled
against the landowner, saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have
made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching
heat.’ But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not
agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what belongs to you and go; I choose
to give to this last the same as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose
with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’
“So the last will be first, and the first will be last..
REFLECTION
The Gospel is full of paradoxes; it is enigmatic, problematic, and hard to understand.
In the parable, God seems unfair. Imagine the last laborers, working for an hour,
received the same payment as the first laborers who have labored the whole day.
What is the point of Jesus?
Jesus is talking to the Jews, who are the first to received the promise given to
Abraham and to the chosen people of God, in contrast to the Gentiles who are
latecomers in hearing the Gospel. Yet, the latter become members of the new
chosen people of God, the community of Christian-followers of Jesus Christ.
In fact, Jesus begins his parable, “The Kingdom of God is like a landowner who went
out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard.” At the end of the day, the landowner
gives out the same wage for all. It looks unfair, but at the end of life, God gives out
the same reward to those who have found him.
In many ways, we are all bystanders waiting for God’s call to come and be part of his
heavenly Kingdom. Some are baptized early in life and given the privilege to
become God’s children. Others are converted at a later stage in life when they
encounter Jesus who invites them to come and work for him. Many saints are
converted sinners. One of them is St. Augustine, who wrote in Confessions, his
autobiography, “You are great, Lord, and worthy of our highest praise; your power is
great and there is no limit to your wisdom. Man, a tiny part of your creation, wishes to
praise you. Though he bears about him his mortality, the evidence of his sin and the
evidence that you resist the proud, yet this man, a tiny part of your creation, wishes to
praise you. It is you who move man to delight in your praise. For you have made us for
yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”
As the First Reading tells us, “Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked man
his thoughts; let him turn to the Lord for mercy; to our God, who is generous in
forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the
Lord.”
Fortunate will you be if you are like the second criminal crucified on the side of Christ
who, at the last moment of his life, was able to steal heaven. He said to his fellow
criminal, “We have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received
corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said,
“Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” Jesus answered him,
“amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk 23:41-43).

“For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die,
we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or
die, we are the Lord’s.” (Romans 14:8)
This is the essence of stewardship – everything we have
and everything we are is a gift from God. We aren’t “owners”
of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts that God
has given us, especially our very own lives. Pray to God
daily and ask Him how He is calling you to live the life that
Marriage Tips
Sometimes it can be frightening to embark upon a big change in
life – a birth, a death, changing jobs, or retirement. In times
of transition, if you are experiencing fear or insecurity, allow
yourself to be vulnerable. Share your feeling with your spouse,
and trust that it will be kept safe. Let your spouse know how
they can support you, as needed.

We are in urgent need of a few

Crisis in Lebanon – Development and Peace Emergency Fund
The situation in Lebanon following August 4th explosion has been described as “beyond imagination.” Thousands of people have been affected with over 159 people dying, over 6,000 injured, and over 300,000 people left homeless. The explosions have also worsened the country’s social, economic, and political crisis.
Development and Peace’s partner, Caritas Lebanon, is providing food, water, medical aid, and psychological and social support to those impacted by this crisis. Development and Peace and its trusted network of partners in the country are also assessing the long-term impacts and needs of this crisis.
Please join in Pope Francis’ invitation to pray for the victims, for their families, and for all of Lebanon. Please also consider joining the Pope in responding to this desperate cry for help by donating to the emergency relief effort at Development and Peace – Caritas Canada through the following link: https://bit.ly/2DRwfiv or by calling 1 888 664-3387.
Blessed Sacrament mass schedule is as follows:
Wednesday at 6:30pm, Thursday at 9am,
Saturday at 5pm, and Sunday at 9am and
11:30am. We are permitted a maximum
attendance of 90 people at each mass.
It is no longer be necessary to reserve a seat, but we are
encouraging people to arrive early in order to complete and
sign the Contact Tracing Sheet before entering the church.
We will be following safety procedures as outlined by the
Diocese, which are in line with Manitoba public health
orders. Face masks are strongly recommended.
The Church still recognizes the dispensation from the Sunday
obligation of attending mass physically until the end of the
pandemic. If unable to attend mass physically at this time,
the faithful are strongly encouraged to participate in Sunday
mass through TV or live streaming.
