I – Impression
Students make and leave impressions with every employer they make contact with, whether it be at a networking event, in-
terview, or another social setting. It generally takes about 5 seconds to create a first impression. Immediately establishing your-
self as a credible and valuable resource will save you time and energy on trying to prove this down the road.
M – Movement
The evaluation of your non-verbal cues, or movement, will begin as soon as you enter a medical office for an interview, and will
continue until the interview is finished. Make eye contact, smile and nod appropriately, don't slouch...all of these are important
non verbal cues that an interviewer will be looking for.
A – Attitude
Many things in an interview are out of your control but your attitude is the one thing you have complete control over, take ad-
vantage of it. We all have a choice every day if we will embrace a positive or negative attitude. Your positive attitude, and a smile
during even a telephone call, will be noted by an employer. Show your enthusiasm for a position and stand out!
G – Grooming
It is certainly important to make sure you’re dressed for an interview (nice business casual outfit, good shoes, etc.) but it is equal-
ly important that personally you are looking your best. Make sure your hair is neat and conservative, no crazy colors or styles,
your nails are trimmed, and for the men, any facial hair is well groomed. It would be a shame to answer every question well in
an interview but to lose points because you forgot to take off that crazy, half chipped bright green nail polish!
E – Etiquette
Understanding how to handle yourself in a medical facility is important. Always be polite to anyone you may meet while inter-
viewing, you never know if they are part of the hiring process.
All components of your image are definitely in your control.
Make the most of your image and give yourself the advantage to succeed.
What do our NEW students have to say?
The Allen School welcomed a new class of Medical Insurance Billing and Cod-
ing students on Monday, September 10th! The students went through an in-
depth orientation period which acclimated them to their Student Success
Teams and all of the resources available at the Allen School, and here is what
some of the students had to say about their experiences:
“The Allen School has been help-
ing me more than I have ever
been helped before. They have
made this an easy and stress free
experience and I am so looking
forward to this!”
“The teams so far at the Allen
School have been wonderful! I look
forward to learning and fulfilling a
goal with the team at Allen School!
Thank you all.”
“The support and encouragement
which I have received from the Allen
School staff have provided a strong
foundation to start school.”
“The Allen School team has already been so supportive! I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!”
The warm summer months are behind us, but the Fall is a great time to look for a job. Most positions, actually
less than 40% are actually posted anywhere, including on job sites online, so in order to do a complete job
search it is important to network. Jobs are found through people not through searches! The Fall months boast a
great amount of networking opportunities, industry parties, holiday parties, and get-togethers! Remember, net-
working is merely talking to people who may know someone who knows someone that can be a good resource
in your job search! So, here are a few EASY ways to network this Fall:
Attend a career fair. There are many of them during the September and October months. Check online for ca-
reer fairs in your local area.
Network at holiday parties/get-togethers. Who said that you couldn't network while watching the big football
game? Get out there and talk to those attending the party. You never know who you may meet. Remember,
even if you know everyone attending, you don't know what other connections they may have. Make sure eve-
ryone knows that you are in the hunt for a great new position.
Attend a Professional Networking Association meeting. EVERY area has a professional networking association
meeting that you can attend. Do a quick search online for Medical Professional Associations and check out
their calendar. If they have a networking meeting, speaker series, or business card exchange, get your name
on the guest list! You can also look for Human Resources Associations. You will be in a room of hiring manag-
ers!
Fall into a New Career!
National network
of students!
The Allen School Online Medical Insur-ance Billing and Coding program is ex-cited to have students all across the
country attending! We asked the stu-dents:
Send in a picture that you think best
represents your hometown!
Check out some of the submissions!
School Supplies Collection The 5th Module class at the Brooklyn campus collected
school supplies for their “Students Learning for a Cause”
initiative. The collected supplies will go to a local shelter
supporting victims of domestic violence and abuse.
Great job 5th Mod!
“Students Learning for a Cause” is an initiative started on
the Brooklyn campus to allow students the opportunity to
learn more about specific causes important to them. Each

creative programming.
