Dear Parents,

Please find the Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) Programme for Term 1 of the academic year 2021-22. Please check the CCA Calender carefully and complete your child’s selections using Schools Buddy.

Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) Programme 2021/22 Term 1

Dates After school CCAs will run for 11 weeks from Monday 6 September until Thursday 25 November.

Collecting Pupils This year there will be a late school bus running on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 4:40pm. Pupils can take the late bus home from College after CCAs or parents can collect children after CCAs. On Monday and Friday there will not be a late bus run and pupils must be collected by parents from College at at the end of the CCA. While most CCAs end at 4:30pm, some end later. Please be sure to check the end time for your child’s CCAs to be aware of the pick-up time. If your child is in a CCA that ends after 4:30pm, they must either leave the CCA early take the late bus, or be picked up from school.

Externally Provided Activities and Payments If your child is taking part in an externally provided activity then you should make payment to the external provider within the first two weeks of CCAs beginning. By signing your child up for externally provided CCAs, in the event of non-payment, you are agreeing to allow the College to share your email address to the external providers so that they can contact you. All payment details can be found at the end of this booklet.

OrchestraMusic Room

Cost Free

All students who take instrumental lessons inside or outside of school regularly are welcome to join the Junior or Senior Orchestra. There is no audition for Junior orchestra, however students should be able to play at approximately Grade 2/3 ABRSM level. An audition is required for students to join the Senior orchestra. If selected this is a compulsory session that pupils will be required to attend.

The Senior School library will offer a quiet space afterschool to complete homework and reading for students. Students will be able to lend books for study and private reading.

Chinese DancingDance Studio

The Chinese dance CCA will enable students to 1. understand and mastering the basic elements of classical

dance2. learn the correct dance body language and use it flexibly3. experience of the beauty of stage art, and be able to perform

short classical dances4. have chance to perform in school assemblies, gain confidence

and work collaboratively in the CCA.

Senior Swim SquadSwimming Pool

The swimming squad will be selected from time trials. If your child is selected there will be a number of days that your child can choose to train. There is a commitment of 2 sessions per week. During the year the College will enter a number of swimming galas against other International schools in Shanghai.

Mustangs Volleyball

This year we are looking to have a Volleyball team who will participate in fixtures and tournaments throughout the year. In Volleyball CCA we will be learning the different rules and terminology associated with the sport, practicing and developing specific volleyball skills and competing against each other. Most importantly, the CCA will be really enjoyable and a chance for students to hone their skills in a different sport.

QigongEY Dance Studio

Wuqinxi(five-animal exercises) is a traditional Chinese fitness method compiled and adapted by Hua Tuo, a famous doctor in the Han Dynasty. It is named Wuqinxi(five-animal exercises) because it imitates the actions of five animals: tiger, deer, bear, ape and crane.

Students will be given extra time and instructions on the advanced topics not covered in lessons. Year 11 students will work on robotics. Year 10 students will work on Python programming. Year 9 students will work on JavaScript. Year 8 students will work on HTML/CSS website production. Year 7 students will work on mobile app development.

Dulwich Theatre CompanyBlack Box

The Fustian Kings : Puxi PlayersYoung aspiring actors in the senior school can now sign up to join Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi’s first Theatre Company: The Fustian Kings. Named after a self-mocking note in a private letter written by Dulwich founder Edward Alleyn, students in the theatre company will work with professionals from Spotlight Theatre School to devise, rehearse and perform for events throughout the school year. They will also have the chance to nurture their talents for acting and their confidence amongst like-minded peers.

WeiqiL4 Classroom

An abstract strategy board game, in which the aim is to surround more territory than the opponent. The game was invented in China more than 2,500 years ago and is believed to be the oldest board game continuously played to the present day.

This course is aimed at students who have reached the level of musical instruments equivalent to the level of ABRSM 3 or above and for students who are beginners wishing to take the ABRSM exams. The objective of this course is to help students better prepare ABRSM Music Theory exam.This course is helpful to their sight-reading,listening,rhythm, creativity in basic composing and to taking their musical skills to higher level.

An extremely popular sport at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi. Floorball is a form of hockey played with plastic sticks, it is fast, furious and extremely exciting. A great sport that all of the pupils thoroughly enjoy.

Chinese PerformanceL4 Classroom

Chinese New Year assembly is one of our college major events. In this club, you will have chance with others to prepare for the performance. You will practice your skills, such as singing, dancing, cooperation and so on. And you will get a chance to perform in the assembly.

ABRSM Music AuralMusic Room

The aural listening test is one of the most important parts of the ABRSM examinations. Children need to pass both the aural test and instrument to get the ABRSM certificates. This CCA will help children understand how the ABRSM aural exams works, develop their aural skills to pass the exam with confidence. Children will also learn to develop their ‘musical ear’, learn how to play in tune, develop their musical memory and spot any mistakes while playing their instruments – all while having fun!

The ABRSM Accompaniment class is an ensemble class for all instruments students except piano. Through this class, students can learn how to play along with other instruments, how to express their feelings in playing. Does your child love basketball? If so, they should join the basketball club on Friday after school. They will develop their basketball knowledge, understanding and skills as they play for fun against their friends. Pupils will develop dribbling, shooting and passing skills with a firm emphasis on pupils enjoying themselves and playing basketball for the love of the game.

In the Chinese Creative Writing CCA, students will use characters /words freely and creatively to work on different topics, such as food, tension description and so much more. Students will learn by playing writing games, explore themselves in fantasy and get inspiration in their future writing.
