Dear Friends,

Mayor and Council Members celebrated 150th Anniversary of historic landmark

Lee Turkey Farm on Hickory Corner Road. A Mayoral Proclamation was presented to farm owners

and family, recognizing Lee Turkey Farm as “rich in history and innovation due to the perseverance and con-

tinuous dedicated work of the Lee Family and which serves as a major attraction for local residents, school

groups, tourists, pick-your-own fans and turkey lovers from all over the tri-state region.” Township officials

unveiled 150th Anniversary signs to be erected at the Route 130 Township entrances. In 2006, through East

Windsor advocacy, Lee Turkey Farm was preserved forever as farmland under the Mercer County farmland

preservation program.

The Lee Turkey Farm has been operated by the Lee Family for six generations dating back to 1868,

and the original five room section of the farmhouse and the barn date back to 1802. It was the first NJ farm

to offer pick-your-own produce and has raised turkeys for 80 years. Lee Turkey Farm became a leader

in energy conservation in 2005, when Ronny Lee was the first New Jersey farmer to use solar energy to

power his farm’s operations.

Hovione, a Portuguese based pharmaceutical company located at 40 Lake Drive, doubled

space and jobs adding 28,000 square feet to the existing 24,000 square foot facility, and creating over 60

new jobs increasing total Township employees to 120. Hovione’s East Windsor facility is a pharmaceu-

tical R&D center which develops and supplies drugs that are new chemical entities to help people with dif-

ferent conditions, including life-threatening diseases.

East Windsor participated in the opening of new offices housing Mental Health and Drug Abuse

Counseling Services for the East Windsor-Hightstown Community, now provided by Jewish Family &

Children's Service (JFCS) of Greater Mercer County. Services are funded by Mercer County with

support by recently incorporated non-profit iCARE (Initiative for Counseling, Addiction, Renewal & Educa-

tion) of East Windsor-Hightstown. Professional clinical counselling services are available by appointment

Monday through Thursday, 2 P.M. to 7 P.M., by calling (609) 987-8100.

Widows When a group of criminals get killed in a heist

gone wrong, it's up to their widows to clean up

the mess and finish the job. It's such a deliciously

simple hook, swiped from a 1983 crime TV series

that aired in Britain, but what will likely

set Widows apart is the high caliber of the cast -- a

murderer’s row of award winners like Viola Da-

vis, Liam Neeson, and Robert Duvall, along with

relative newcomers like Daniel Kaluuya and Cyn-

thia Erivo -- and the-behind-the-scenes talent,

which includes Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn

and Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen. This

looks like high-octane pulp made by deadly seri-

ous professionals.

An American Thanksgiving Songs of Gratitude and Optimism

Monday, November 12

1:00 pm -2:15 pm

Fred Miller’s Lectures-in-Song comprise a series of solo programs, each a historical, anecdotal, and musical profile of some great personality or important aspect of Ameri-can Popular Song. These lectures are delivered by singer/pianist/narrator Miller at the piano, and each reflects his lifetime passion and appreciation for great music. The Landing of the Pilgrims in 1620 and their hard-won success in the New World gave occasion to the First Thanksgiving. What of subsequent American arrivals survivals? Jump ahead 3 centuries, and the image of a little girl in gingham dreaming of something brighter than dreary old Kansas flickers on screens all over the country. "Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly," she muses, "birds fly over the rainbow; why then, oh why can´t I?" Not by chance was that timeless expression of longing for a better life created almost entirely by latter-day "huddled masses yearning to breathe free" and their "tempest-tost" talented offspring. In fact, that classic scene is emblematic of a whole magnificent enter-tainment age driven by the enthusiasm of a generation of enterprising New Americans.
