SV Cyber Program Handbook
The Seneca Valley Cyber Program is a new way of looking at how we
offer learning to our students. The purpose of the Seneca Valley Cyber Program is
to offer students the educa on they need to prepare for life in the 21st century. It
provides students with opportuni es they may not have previously had through
their public educa on experience. Seneca Valley is proud to meet the needs and
wants of students and their parents in the same quality academic environment with
which stakeholders have become accustomed.
The staff of Seneca Valley is proud to offer various new offerings through the Cyber
Program combined with the tradi onal offerings of past years. The quality of educa-
on with which you are accustomed remains as high as ever, but the courses
are presented in a different way. No ma er which program a student chooses to
enroll in, successful comple on will result in a Seneca Valley diploma. Parents and
students can be assured that they are prepared for the next steps life has to offer.
Testimonials "So far, our son has really liked the Mandarin class. He’s enjoying what he’s learning, and the fact
that he can go at his own pace really works for him. Plus, the content is very interes ng to him, and
it’s presented in a good format. I don’t know of any other school district that has this op on availa-
ble. It’s one more reason that we love Seneca! The Mandarin class is the third cyber class we’ve
experienced and we have been very happy with the program. We’re so thankful that our kids are
able to take advantage of these opportuni es at Seneca!!"
- Mrs. Geil, Parent of two SV students
“A er being a “Cyber Parent” for almost 2 years, and experiencing first hand all of the advantages, I am definitely not only looking forward to keeping my kid in the program, but evalua ng the possi-bili es for enhancing its scope and adding subjects. My son has been taking cyber math since 4th grade, working at his own pace, and making huge academic progress; to a point of being 2 years ahead of his grade. He is now much more engaged and enjoying the learning experience in a very
posi ve way.”
‐ Mr. Ordonez, Parent of an SV Cyber Student
"Online classes provided me with a flexible schedule and the tools to develop me management skills."
- Emily Graves, Class of 2012
"I love cyber, I work at my own pace, get the a en on I need without the distrac ons and get all
the learning of public educa on."
‐ Sean Takakjy, Class of 2013

Students in Grades Kindergarten and 1st: Students will no longer be evaluated by a percentage system,
though you will s ll see this in Compass. The cyber teacher will analyze the standards and assess each stu-
dent based on the NEW standards-based report card. Standards-based learning focuses on the growth, un-
derstanding and mastery of specific grade level skills. Your cyber teacher will communicate as necessary if
they have concerns on the specific standard skills. Please remember that your child may not be able to
master the en re standard un l the end of the year, as some standards have mul ple components.
Students in Grades 2nd—4th: Students will con nue to be evaluated based on the le er grade, percentage
system. Compass grades will be reported through daily emails for you to monitor your child’s academic
growth.
All Students in Grades Kindergarten — 4th : Report cards will be issued on a trimester schedule.
In addi on to online assignments, students will be responsible for comple ng a notebook for each subject
area. The notebook will be submi ed at the midterm and at the end of the trimester. A notebook grade
will be calculated in with online content grades at the end of each trimester.
Emailing
Have your child check the Communica on Center in the Compass Odyssey program frequently for updates
from his or her cyber teacher. Students may email the teacher directly through the Communica on Center
regarding assignments and/or student course progress. Your cyber teacher has a Seneca Valley email ad-
dress which can be used to communicate with parents. Email addresses are listed on page 2 of the hand-
book.
Grade Repor ng
Parents are required to provide an email address upon registra on. Compass will send parents an email bi-
weekly summarizing the students’ progress on the trimester course. *The emailed report does not include
