Approaching a Professor

• Mail an impressive Cover Letter to the concerned Prof. (to be discussed later).

• Wait for a week’s time for reply, after which sending a 3 line reminder is a good idea.

• Don’t apply to more than 1 Professor simultaneously in the same university & having the same area of research interest.

• Always keep your options open, never depend on a single Prof. and apply to as many places as possible.

Case I: Positive responseKeep in touch with your guide through mailConvince Him/Her that you are doing the required ground work .This is to prevent Him/Her from throwing you out on finding a better candidate. Also Keep him/her abreast with your current courses, projects etc. to show him/her your sincerity and interest.

Case 2: Not so sure Response• Prof. might state non-availability of funds

as a reason.

• If you manage to convince Him/Her , He/She might arrange for funds and you might just get a call.

• Other not so sure reasons could be like

4. I already have a lot of other applications from other IIT students and am not sure about your case

• In the above cases keep pursuing your case and try to convince Him/Her with the relevant information on the ground work that you are doing.

Focus on Europe

Why Europe?Universities in Europe encourage

Interns from other countries. Many Univs. in Europe offer good

Stipends. Many Seniors have already had an

experience in Europe and Profs. also will prefer students from same college!

Moreover Germany and Portugal are hotspots for Mechanical Engineers in general.
