HALL SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES DILIMAN, QUEZON CITY 1101 GOALS INTERNAL EXTERNAL THE UP SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS STUDENT COUNCIL (UP SESC) is the official student government of the University of the Philippines School of Economics (UPSE). The SESC aims to unite and serve its fellow students, faculty, staff, and other members of the UPSE community, hinged on the values that it upholds year after year – Excellence, Empowerment, and Leadership through Service. Active participation of all council members in all events and publicity Average of 8 Eval Rating for Every Event Council bonding at least once a month for unity Gold Award in USC Seal of Good Governance Constant tidbits every GA for social awareness Creating a conducive student environment in Econ On April 26-27, the UP School of Economics Student Council held its semestral planning at Scout Fernandez, Quezon City. The following are the lineup of events/projects for the semester: AUGUST 2 FRESHMEN ORIENTATION SEMINAR The UPSE Freshman Orientation Seminar is the first large-scale internal event of the academic year, focused on introducing the UPSE freshies to the School of Economics. Freshmen will be able to get to know their batchmates, as well as be introduced to the upperclassmen and different UPSE organizations in a day full of fun and activities. This event provides an exciting college beginning for the freshmen, and aims to make them feel welcome in Econ! AUGUST 7 TAMBAYAN BLESSING Five UPSE Organizations will be moving out to a new tambayan space right beside the UPSE building this year after being housed in SE 121 for so long. To commemorate such a historical event, it is only fitting that a blessing be held at the first lunch time of the start of the school year. Aside from the blessing, a simple ribbon cutting turnover ceremony and salo-salo will take place. AUGUST 9 SHIFTEES’ AND TRANSFEREES’ ORIENTATION The Shiftees' and Transferees' Orientation is a welcoming event for new UPSE students where they are introduced to the people, the facilities, and the curriculum of the School of Economics. This is organized to develop ties within the student and to make them feel comfortable in their new college in UP. This event provides an avenue where new students can learn and know more about UPSE through the tour, and for them to ask questions they are dying to be answered.

THE UP SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS STUDENT COUNCIL (UP SESC) is the official student government of the University of the Philippines School of Economics (UPSE). The SESC aims to unite and serve its fellow students, faculty, staff, and other members of the UPSE community, hinged on the values that it upholds year after year – Excellence, Empowerment, and Leadership through Service.

On April 26-27, the UP School of Economics Student Council held its semestral planning at Scout Fernandez, Quezon City. The following are the lineup of events/projects for the semester:

AUGUST 2FRESHMEN ORIENTATIONSEMINARThe UPSE Freshman Orientation Seminar is the first large-scale internal event of the academic year, focused on introducing the UPSE freshies to the School of Economics. AUGUST 12–15ORG FAIR

The Organizational Fair is held every semester to showcase the organizations that bring life and color to UPSE. It also serves as an avenue for aspiring applicants to get to know more about the organizations they may be interested in joining. Moreover, the fair is able to show how there in unity in diversity within the eight orgs of the School of Economics Advisory Council (SEAC), and how they are one in bringing UPSE together through various programs and activities held within the week.

AUGUST 15ALAY SA PERSONNEL

The different members of the UPSE staff and administration are all integral in our lives as students. Alay sa Personnel is an annual event that aims to show appreciation to the UPSE personnel for everything that they do for us students through simple games, little surprises, delicios food, and more. This event is in cooperation with the member organizations of the School of Economics Advisory Council (SEAC).

AUGUST 29ACQUAINTANCE PARTY

The UPSE Acquaintance Party brings the whole School of Economics together in a night of fun and socialization. With music, dancing, games, and performances - the Acquaintance Party will be a stress-free bonding night for all the hardworking students, faculty, alumni, and personnel in the School of Economics!

SEPTEMBER 1–5BRA FOOD FEST

The (B)atch (R)epresentative (A)lliance Food Fest will be a week-long fundraising event held in one of the dormitory or college parking lots. Different food concessionaires will be invited and the food fest will be open to all students. Proceeds of the fundraiser will go towards funding the B.R.A. Outreach event in November.

SEPTEMBER 4THESIS SEMINAR

Thesis Seminar is an event wherein the graduating batch will be guided in making their thesis by competent speakers. The speakers are expected to impart their knowledge on the processes/procedures they took on during their thesis making semester. Speakers are also expected to share both good and bad experiences when they were doing their thesis. This event will also serves as a refresher course on the basic knowledge a graduating student needs to know (e.g. Statistics, Econometrics, etc.)

SEPTEMBER 12KAPEKONOMIYA

One of the most controversial events of the year, Kapekonomiya is an educational forum open to UP students that introduces and tackles a specific relevant issue in society. Several knowledgeable speakers are invited to present and discuss so that all sides may be equally represented, and students can make their own informed stands. It is jointly organized by the SESC and UP Economics Towards Consciousness.

SEPTEMBER 16 & 23STOCK TRADINGWORKSHOPSThe Stocks Workshop is a two part introduction to stock trading that aims to acquaint students to basic theory and analysis so that they may learn how to become responsible traders themselves. The event will include presentations by professionals who will demonstrate how to approach and understand company stocks, as well as different application activities to further understanding. This is jointly organized by SESC and UP Organization of Business Economics Majors.

SEPTEMBER 25SELF-DEFENSE WORKSHOPThe self defense workshop is designed to provide students with common sense and practical information they can use in times of danger. Participants are taught basic self defense using their bodies and improvised weapons. The program also includes a short lecture on how to avoide attacks and how to assess threat in common situations.

SEPTEMBER 27 –OCTOBER 27STOCK COMPETITIONAs a culmination of the Stocks Workshops, this month-long competition will give students the chance to apply their newly acquired knowledge, in the chance to win an internship and cash prize.

SEPTEMBER 30STATA SEMINAR

The STATA Seminar is an event that aims to provide UPSE students a tutorial on the basic and advanced techniques of STATA. It is organized in order to aid students who are currently taking their econometrics classes (Econ 131), as well as students who are currently writing their thesis. Students who will participate will hopefully be able to grasp and appreciate the techniques that will allow them to fully utilize the program in their studies.

OCTOBER 20, 27NOVEMBER 8SCHOOLYMPICSSchoolympics is the annual intramural sportsfest for UPSE. It is a showcase of teamwork and pride as the four batches compete in cheerdance and in various sports.

NOVEMBER 11ELECTIVES 101

Electives 101 is an event where UPSE students can know more about the various electives they can take in UP, especially those aligned to their courses. People from different fields are invited to introduce these electives to the students, making it easier for the students to choose/decide the electives they intend to take. At the end of the event, it is expected that the participants have a clearer view of the track they want to take with their available electives.

NOVEMBER 15–17NATIONAL YOUTH CONGRESSPromoting nation building through the youth, the National Youth Congress is an annual convention that aspires to provide high school students from different regions in the country an engaging introduction to the field of economics and to show the power of economic analysis and the economic way of thinking in clarifying relevant issues in society. It is jointly organized by the SESC and the UP Economics Society.

NOVEMBER 22BRA OUTREACH

The (B)atch (R)epresentative (A)lliance Outreach is an UPSE-wide event that will provide an opportunity for all students to do community work related to a particular advocacy. Students can give back to communities and bond with one another by participating in the outreach and doing socially relevant activities.

DECEMBER 15LANTERN CULMINIGHT

The Lantern Parade Culmination Night is a large event that celebrates the end of the year, and the beginning of the holiday season. This is a night of music, activities, and performances aiming to bring together the School of Economics and ending the year as One UPSE!

STUDENT MANUAL/CITIZENS’ CHARTER

ECON KIT E-FILES

The Student Manual or Citizen's Charter is document that will contain all services of the SESC and how students can avail of them. Aside from that, it'll also contain all relevant information that the students of UPSE need to know: important contact numbers, registration procedures, faculty and staff, and others. An online version will be released before the start of the semester and hard copies will be placed in the tambayan area, SE 101, and the bulletin board.

PROJECTS

The Online Econ Kit is a one stop shop for all academic services and resources, compiled by the Academic Alliance. The PDF file is available in all batch groups.

The E-Files is the official publication of the SESC, to be released at the end of every semester. Following a monthly theme to be determined by the Media and Publicity Councilor's Publication Team, it shall serve as an avenue for transparency and information dissemination to the UPSE community regarding the council events, projects, and services.
