    The basic types ofadjectives

    1. Opinion

    An opinion adjective explains what

    you think about something (otherpeople may not agree with you).Examples:

    silly, beautiful, horrible, difficult

    2. Size

    A size adjective, of course, tells youhow big or small something is. Examples:large, tiny, enormous, little

    3. Age An age adjective tells you how young or

    old something or someone is. Examples:

    A shape adjective describes the shapeof something. Examples:square, round, flat, rectangular

    Basically, most adverbs tell you how,where, or when something is done. In

    other words, they describe themanner, place, or timeof an action.Here are some examples:

    How to recognize an

    adverb

    Many adverbs end with the suffix-LY. Most of these are created byadding -LY to the end of an

    However, this is NOT a reliable way to

    find out whether a word is an adverb ornot, for two reasons: many adverbs doNOT end in -LY (some are the same as

    the adjective form), and many wordswhich are NOT adverbs DO end in -LY(such as kindly, friendly, elderlyand

    lonely, which are adjectives). Here aresome examples of adverbs which are thesame as adjectives:

    The best way to tell if a word is anadverb is to try making a question,

    for which the answer is the word. Ifthe question uses how, whereorwhen, then the word is probably anadverb. Here is an example:
