The world renowned Hard Rock Café is one of the hottest destinations when it comes to steak, burgers, cult music vide-os, and live acts. In Berlin, the Hard Rock is located in a historic Bauhaus building on the Kurfürstendamm.

Some of Hard Rock Berlin’s priceless rock and pop treasures include a hand-written letter by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll Elvis Presley to his fans, and a guitar owned by the legendary Jimi Hendrix. Along with outstanding entertainment and top culinary creations, the safety of visitors and memorabilia is a top priority for Hard Rock’s hospitality professionals. Tyco designed a demand-oriented, cus-tomised security solution that took into account the architectural requirements as well as the café’s design and overall concept.

The O2 Arena, London

Situated on London’s Greenwich Penin-sula, the O2 is the city’s state-of-the-art music and entertainment venue. The O2 can hold up to 23,000 people and includes Entertainment Avenue with its myriad of leisure attractions.

The security solutions for this multi-use venue needed to be discreet but effec-tive. The fire detection systems also needed to operate in a unique environ-ment, particularly in the concert arena, which houses a sound system that pumps out 650,000 watts. Tyco’s tailored security solution includes CCTV cameras installed in all areas of Peninsula Square, which feed into the O2 operations room, enabling operators to view all areas of Entertainment Avenue. Discreetly placed, the cameras monitor the site for any un-usual behaviour and also provide valuable data for evacuations. The CCTV system is supported by access control doors where necessary.

In addition, a Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) was installed in the arena and its concourses. During a con-cert, this system can distinguish between particles given off as part of the show (e.g. pyrotechnic displays and dry ice) and smoke as a result of a fire. The VESDA system is supported by call points and detection around the O2 as well as voice activated alerts.

Today, an alarm system secures specific rooms with integrated access control technology, while special areas, such as cooler boxes, are protected with warning and emergency call devices to ensure a gap-free cooling chain that is electronical-ly monitored on a continuous basis.

To protect visitors, employees and material assets, a video monitoring system comprised of dome cameras with integrated infrared lighting is installed on both floors. The cameras con-vey high-resolution video images even when it gets dark in the auditorium. Operators can also call up live and recorded video images at the same time. When it comes to the requirements of data protection, the video monitoring ensures more security on-site and also provides for legally valid documentation through the stored video images.
