Time Zone Mexico City, Monterrey, Celaya, Ramos Arizpe, Guadalajara & Villahermosa: US Central Standard Time (GMT/UTC - 06:00) Language The official language in Mexico is Spanish. For business, the common language is English. Currency In Mexico, the official currency is the Mexican peso. The US dollar equivalent is 1 USD to 13 pesos. The exchange rate varies constantly and it’s best to check before you travel. Many stores in Mexico accept pesos and US dollars but you should always ask prior to making a purchase. To exchange currency, it is highly recommended that you use a bank or exchange bureau. The common coins that are in circulation are: 10, 20, and 50 cents; 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 pesos. The common bills used are: 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 peso bank notes. Credit Cards The credit cards and traveller checks are accepted in almost all stores in the urban areas of the country. Passport/VISA To enter Mexico, all visitors must be in possession of a valid form of ID issued by/within their country of nationality. This may be a passport, birth certificate or other picture ID. We recommended checking with your travel agent or the nearest Mexican Consulate before you travel.

Public telephones Most public telephones in Mexico are owned and operated by TELMEX Communications Company. To use a public phone, you must purchase a calling card, on sale at any drugstore or convenience store (Wal-Mart, OXXO, 7-Eleven, etc.). Phone Calls In Mexico, all telephone numbers are 7 or 8 digits long and the area codes are 2 or 3 digits. Local calls: dial only the telephone number of 7 or 8 digits. Local cell phone calls: 044 + area code + phone number Long distance calls in Mexico: 01 + area code + phone number Long distance calls to US or Canada: 001 + area code + phone number Long distance calls to other countries: 00 + country code + area code + phone number Incoming calls from foreign countries to Mexico: 52 + area code + phone number Calling from anywhere out of Mexico to a Mexican cell phone: 011 + 52 + 1 + area code + phone number Demand for Electricity Mexico uses the US system - 110 V to 60 Hz. Light plugs are the US type, with two parallel blades and occasionally with a grounded round pin. Public Transportation There are plenty of taxis on the main boulevards 24 hours a day. However, is strongly recommended for security reasons, to use Whirlpool Drivers. In case you want a car rental, it is recommended to do so in the airport or book on-line. (In Mexico the use of the seat-belt is mandatory).

If you are traveling alone, you will need to take extra precautions for your safety. A single person is a more attractive target for pickpockets or thieves than a person in a group.
Always be aware of your surroundings. If the immediate environment does not “feel right”, find a place that does, immediately.
Always avoid sharing detailed information about yourself, where you are staying, or your itinerary. The reality is that, other than passport control agents, no one you meet during travel needs to know these details.
Theft from hotel rooms, purse snatching, and pick pocketing are the most common crimes against tourist. Theft from hotel rooms can be limited by using the hotel's safe (if available).
Make sure you leave a copy of your travel itinerary with a relative or friend. Do not forget to send the Travel Form to Whirlpool’s Operations Command
Centre in Mexico. Always keep your luggage in sight and under your control while checking in
at the hotel’s front desk. Make sure you use hotel taxis or authorized services listed in this brochure. Do not wear fancy jewelry or other luxury trappings while out for a
sightseeing stroll, as these will attract petty thieves and pickpockets. Always ask at your hotel desk if there are areas/neighborhoods near the
hotel that you should avoid. Avoid walking alone at night. If you do not have companions to walk with,
take a cab to and from your evening destination. Don't use shortcuts, narrow alleys or poorly lit streets. Doing so invites
danger. Only use ATMs at reputable hotels or secure shopping malls, always
withdraw during the day. Do not agree to meet people in your room or at the elevators on your floor.
Meet visitors in the main lobby or restaurant.
Recommendations
5
Avoid entering elevators if any passenger makes you feel uncomfortable. Be vigilant while using stairwells.
Make sure you study the instructions in your room regarding fire safety and the possible need for evacuation.
Counterfeit and smuggled products are widely found in Mexico’s “flea” markets. Possession of these items is a prosecutable offence. If you are travelling outside of Mexico, especially via US, be aware that these products will be confiscated and you will receive a fine.
Most assailants in Mexico are heavily armed. If you witness or become a victim of an assault do not repel the aggression. Listen carefully to what they have to say and follow their instructions. Avoid sudden movements with your hands. As soon as possible, call the police and Whirlpool Security Office. Always immediately report any attempted extortion or kidnapping.
When you rent a car for international travel, try to reserve one that does not stand out and is otherwise unlikely to attract attention. Remember, as a traveler you want to blend in and avoid calling attention to yourself and your traveling companions.
If the car is marked as a rental car (agency’s logo or name), ask if any marks identifying the car as a rental can be removed. If not, ask if they have another car.
While driving, keep the vehicle windows closed and the doors locked. Be aware of suspicious situations in your surroundings, especially when facing a traffic light and mandatory stops.
Leave enough space between you, the car in front , and behind you in case of any emergency.
Always take the car keys with you; lock the steering wheel and all doors. Do not leave any valuable objects, credit cards, or any other important
documents, inside the vehicle. Do not take strangers in your car. Park your vehicle in a way to expedite your departure.
