Nursing Department Information sheet Admissions eligibility depends on completion of the admissions requirements below. Applications are accepted Jan 2 nd – Feb 1 st at 4 pm. SECTION 1: ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS All courses must be satisfactorily completed at an accredited college/university prior to submitting the application. 1. Prerequisites must be 2.5 GPA or higher, with no grade lower than C. 2. Biology courses must have a cumulative of 2.5 GPA or better. 3. Students may not repeat a Biology course where the grade is C or higher. 4. 5-year recency only applies to Biology courses Required prerequisites: Biol 250 (Anatomy with lab) Biol 260 (Physio with lab) Biol 240 (Microbiology with lab) Chem 410 (Chemistry for Health Science) Engl 100 (English Composition) Psych 100 (Intro to Psych) Psych 200 (Developmental Psych) Comm courses (110, or 130, or 140, or 150) Soc 100 (Intro to Sociology) or Anth 110 (Cultural Anthro) Statistics (Math 200) Refer to Nursing Articulation Grid for acceptable course equivalents if taken outside SMCCCD. If your coursework does not appear on the grid, please fill- out the Prerequisite Evaluation Form. Do not forget to attach the course description(s) and official transcript(s). Submit all documents to Nursing department for approval. No electronic copy will be accepted. Deadline is no later than Jan 6 th . Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a credited agency. SECTION 4: CRITERIA FOR SELECTION CSM Nursing uses Merit-based selection system. Please see the website for the Merit-Based Acceptance criteria form and other supplemental documents that are required for submission. Note: Submit ALL documents in a manila envelope. No electronic transcripts will be accepted. SECTION 5: TEAS/HESI TEST Accepted candidates will be required to successfully pass the ATI TEAS (version 6) with 62% or HESI with 70% composite score prior to entry into the program. In the event that the applicant does not pass the test, the student will need to successfully complete remediation coursework, retake the test and then pass the TEAS or HESI within one year. Acceptance is denied to candidates who fail to achieve the required composite score for the retest. SECTION 6: RECOMMENDED COURSE(S) It is highly recommended that applicants take NURS 666 at CSM. This course is open to the public – not exclusive to CSM nursing students. Check online for schedule of classes. Students should also complete their General Education requirements (unless you have previous Bachelor’s degree) to be granted the ADN degree. Please refer to CSM catalog to check the complete list of Associate Degree requirements. SECTION 7: OTHER INFO Approximate cost of the program (including books and required supplies) is $8,000 for the 1 st yr.` and $7,000 for the 2 nd yr. Students are responsible for their own transportation to/from the hospital and clinical agencies. Nursing class and lab hours may vary. Your employment schedule will need to be flexible around your school schedule. Students are responsible in keeping their immunization records up to date. Most clinical agencies require: MMR. Varicella, Tdap, Hep A, Hep B, 2-step TB test. Criminal background checks and drug screenings are required by clinical agencies. Convictions within the past 7 years are handled on case-by-case basis by clinical agencies and the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). BRN will deny licensure to any applicant who is on probation.
