On 11 July, an intra-class CBSE Expressions Series - Essay Competition was held for classes VII and VIII. The

topic of the competition was 'The hardest challenge brought out the best in me' or 'I did not miss the school in last

two months because....' in English and Hindi language. The students expressed their views with great zeal and

enthusiasm.

To bring happiness across in such unprecendented times, a Corona Challenge - Comic Strip Competition was held

for the students of Class VII. The students showcased spectacular and vibrant paintings, drawings and script in their

comic strip keeping in mind the theme 'Public health and safety measure that can help to flatten the curve through

education'. The students enjoyed creating expressive art that fostered their creative, social and emotional skills.

An Intra School Online Cooking Without Fire Competition was organised by Delhi Public School Surat for Classes

VII to X on August 2020. The theme was to select a recipe containing ingredients pertaining to science,

representing the tricolour of our National Flag. The budding little chefs crafted delectable dishes thinking like a

scientist, organising like an accountant, plating like an artist and cooking like a culinary white-collar. Their luscious

dishes were power-packed with nutritional value.

August 2020, students of Secondary Block of Delhi Public School Surat engaged in a series of online Pre

Independence Events, one of which was Essay writing competition that was held on 12 August on the topic

“Aatmanirbhar Bharat – Swatantra Bharat” in both english and hindi language.

Delhi Public School organized the DPS Virtual Quiz-2020 on two different levels. The theme for Juniors was

INDIA’S NATURE & WILDLIFE and the theme for Seniors was“INDIA’S SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY”. The

Preliminary round for the quiz was conducted on 24 September 2020. The Preliminary round was considered as

Intra Class Quiz Competition. The first three winners received e-certificates.

140th birthday of Munshi Premchand is being celebrated by Delhi Public School this year. On this occasion, the

students of Class VII and VIII participated in ‘Book Cover Making Competition’ through a virtual class. The

students chose the book cover of any one story written by the famous writer. The students gave a tribute to the great

writer by exhibiting their work marvelously. The purpose of this activity was to understand the significance of the

writer's potrayal of his characters.

‘Diwali: Fun & Flare’ Competition was organized by Delhi Public School Surat for classes VII to X on November 5,

2020. The Inter Class online Toran Making Competition made the online activity so colourful with the spectacular

ideas put up by the students.

To appreciate and encourage to continue educational efforts the prestigious Nalanda Merit Scholarship 2019-20 for

class X was awarded to the DPS Surat students who secured above 98% in AISSE on 5th November 2020. The

Principal Mr. P. Vamshi Krishna and the Level Heads gave away the coveted XI & XII Merit scholarship, merit

certificate, letter of appreciation and a memento to Aayush Anil Bansal with 98.6%, currently studying in Class XI

Commerce and Zehaan Nilay Naik with 98.4%, currently studying in class XI Science to boost and rekindle their

Delhi Public School Surat organised a ‘BINGO on Plant diseases’ virtually as a part of 'IYPH 2020' celebration.

Students of class VII to X participated with great zeal and zest. The participants self-designed their Bingo ticket

based on the list of plant diseases provided. The event provided an opportunity for the budding students to learn

ways to keep plants healthy to achieve zero hunger and the sustainable development goals.

During the pandemic, to enlighten the young brilliant minds, students of class IX and X were given opportunity on 4

January to work in groups virtually and were supposed to make a power point presentation using Hindi fonts based on

Munshi Premchand’s Stories. Different groups were given different stories. The group members’ co-ordinated very well

with each other and enthusiastically made amazing PPTs. The best group from each section was awarded e-Certificates.

On 13 January 2021, students of classes VII & VIII, tried their hand at puppetry as a part of Integrated learning in

school. They staged puppet shows online for storytelling, enactment, depiction etc. related to chapters in their

literature textbook. This fusion of Art and English language proved to be an enriching experience for the DIPsites.

“A good story can imbibe the right values in the most impressionable age.” To encourage the skills of listening and reading,

a storytelling activity was conducted for the students of Class IX, on 13 January 21. Students were divided in a group and

prepared a narration and dialogues based on Munshi Premchand’s Stories, and present their story in the class. The students

presented their story with the use of facial expressions and voice modulation. Overall, this session helped the young souls

for creative thinking.

The Artists Within Us! DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL SURAT offered the students much needed opportunity to

connect with fellow peers and to showcase their creativity, and social temperament through Virtual Exhibition as

part of ‘Ek Bharat - Shrestha Bharat’ campaign. The students of Class VII-X participated in the Art Integrated

Learning wherein Gujarat was paired with Chhattisgarh state to promote the spirit of national integration. The

social skills and creative skills were displayed on full scale. It was an enriching experience for the students to know

the rich heritage and culture, customs and traditions of the other state.

Delhi Public School, Surat organized ‘IYPH 2020 - Herbarium’ for the students of class IX from January 10 – 25, 2021.

Each herbarium specimen of plant comprises of a dried flowering twig of a plant mounted on archival paper and affixed

with a label providing descriptive data. It was conceptualized in a way that students indulged in developing a ‘Digital

Herbarium of Identified Plants’ growing in their surroundings.

Math-O-Mania, an interactive PDF puzzle was unlocked by Students of Class IX on 6 Febrauary 21. They

enthusiastically used their artistic skills under Art Integrated learning to visualize and figure out various

geometrical 2D or 3D shapes and created Mono Block Printing using self-made stencil or natural stencil. It helped

them to enrich and discover the elegance of the subject as it challenged their logical reasoning and creative thinking

skills.

To celebrate IYPH 2020, Delhi Public School Surat organized an intra-class ‘Making Of Immunity Booster’ Competition

on 6 February’21 for classes VII and VIII. Each group of students prepared nutrient-rich immunity booster which is the

need of the hour. They used herbs or spices available in the kitchen, made an advertisement of their booster, explaining the

medicinal uses of the herbs or spices and also gave the botanical name of herbs or spices used in the booster. The pupils

performed a three-minute advertisement live in their classes enthusiastically.

Role-play is any speaking activity when you put yourself into somebody else shoes. The joy of role-play was that

students could become any character that they liked for a short time! On 7 February 21,Students of Class IX were

given different stories of Munshi Premchand for role play. They read the stories and selected the role of their own

choice. They were free to prepare the script accordingly and could choose the props. It was an individual activity

where enthusiastic children took part in it, prepared videos and posted in the classroom.

The International Year of Plant Health 2020 was celebrated by the Students of class VII, VIII and IX of Delhi Public School

Surat. The Dipsites participated with great enthusiasm in the activity of preparing garden fertilizers. This activity was

designed to bring students closer to the world of plant protection. Students made videos demonstrating preparation of

homemade organic fertilizer by using various spices or vegetable or organic waste etc. It was a fun way to learn about the

flora and ways to take good care of the green lungs of our Earth.

To instill the mathematical temperament, Delhi Public School Surat organized an online “Math Mela” for Students

of Classes VII & VIII on 18 February 21. It provided a platform to the students for peer learning and an opportunity

to present their new ideas to overcome their phobia for the subject. Students actively participated in the Math Mela

and displayed questions amazingly on various topics from a wide spectrum of mathematics using their artistic

skills.

Stories play a vital role in the growth and development of children. The stories they read and the characters they get to know

can become like friends. This activity helped the children to understand that books are a useful source of information.

Students of Class IX were given different stories of Munshi Premchand on 10 February 21. They were asked to read and

select one of their own choice to make the cover page. It was an individual activity where children participated

enthusiastically.

DPS Talent Hunt - The Pool of Talent!

As we approached towards the end of session, the students were given a platform to showcase their talent and explore the

learner inside each one of them. In this pandemic, the students got the opportunity to introspect themselves, pursue their

interest area and develop skills in that field.

On 20 February, DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL SURAT offered the students this platform as a part of ‘DPS Talent Hunt’ in

which a student could participate in various categories like Dancer, Musician, Artist, Actor, Photographer and

Spokesperson. The students were supposed to record a video on any topic of their choice from the above mentioned

categories. The confidence level and originality were fostered. It not only helped the participating students to show their

abilities but also motivated other students, to come upfront and show their hidden potential. All students actively

participated in the event and had shown their enthusiasm and dedication in their efforts. The Judges had a brainstorming

session over the neck to neck performances to reach to their judgement.
