JOB DESCRIPTION

City Life Interns are focused on investing deeply in the ministry to students at a specific City Life location. City Life Interns will gain valuable training and experience in the areas of urban youth min-

istry, disciple-making, and wholistic care.

YFC MISSION

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other

like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle,

devotion to prayer and the Word of God, passion for sharing the love of Christ and

commitment to social involvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A growing follower of Jesus Christ.

• Involved in & regularly attending a local church (a letter from a local church Pastor or Youth

Pastor is required).

• Sets a godly example in one’s personal life.

• Passionate about youth ministry and making a difference.

• Willingness to submit and minister within the guidelines of YFC. 1

• Submit to an extensive background and reference check.

• Participate fully in the life of the ministry team you serve on.

• Commitment to show up for all required internship gathering, events, programs, and

meetings. (see Intern Calendar and Ministry Training Grid)

• Teachable, humble and willing to learn.

• Open to learning essential cultural competencies to serve in an urban neighborhood.

• Flexible enough schedule to fulfill required responsibilities. • Eager to do what it takes to make a difference in the lives of kids.

SUMMARY OF ROLE

This intern will be working as a City Life intern. The intern will work on average 10 hours per

week from August 2020 - July 2021. Those hours may be worked in any combination at the dis-

cretion of the intern or supervisor. The intern is considered an integral part of the local City Life

in order to fulfill our vision to empower urban youth to change their community for Christ.

HOURS & PAY

YFC Commitment: August 2020 – July 2021.

10 hours per week of active involvement including weekend retreats and summer camps.

Compensation: $600 per month, plus training, books and other experiences. (Interns will partic-

ipate in fundraising for the Urban Youth Workers Institute which is included in their internship.)

Secondary Supervisor: Minta Buse (Seattle YFC City Life Director)

Evaluation: Semi-Annual (December & June)

YFC ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. YFC Internship Responsibilities

• Attend internship retreat (see Intern Calendar and Ministry Training Grid)

• Attend all internship meetings and trainings (see Intern Calendar and Ministry Training

Grid)

• Complete required assignments (see Intern Calendar and Ministry Training Grid)

2. City Life Responsibilities

• Attend City Life and City Life activities.

• Post City Life Debrief & Prayer

• Setting up room

• Support with City Life clean up

• Lead Bible Study (during City Life)

• City Life Prep (Bible Study prep, games, design, print out, etc.) (1.5 hour)

3. Build Authentic Relationships with Kids

• Get to know kids in the ministry you are serving in.

• Establish healthy and godly boundaries with the kids you are with.

• Communicate with students, parents and volunteers (email, text, phone call).

• Meet 1/1 or 2/1 twice a month. This includes serving at a school or sporting event.

• Alongside the leadership of the Site Director, aim to build a small group with youth you

are connecting with.

• Be involved in students’ lives and get to know their story.

4. Program Development and Leadership

• With the Site Director, strengthen and grow the existing programs.

• Weekly Slack Update to Site Director and Internship Director (30 minutes)

• Recruit one volunteer.

• Take leadership in running the weekly program.

• Fulfill key responsibilities, i.e. leading games, speaking, small groups. • Communicate effectively with the Ministry Site Leader and Internship Director:

• Communication Policy -

» Staff - Reply within 24 hours to text messages and 48 hours to emails

» Volunteers - Reply within 24 hours to emails/text messages

» Parents - reply within 24 hours emails/text messages

» Students - Reply within 48 hours if not sooner. Social media/messages

5. Outreach

• Establish a routine of visiting the local schools and doing “contact work”.

• Get to the know the community you are serving.

• Find out where kids are at in your community and go to where they are.
