SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-PDesign and develop a WBT program consisting of 2

learning courses:

Technology Integration in the Classroom (TIC) Technology in Distance Education (TIDE)

Instructors will have the knowledge & skills to incorporate technology into their classes and distance education programs.

Goals and Objectives for TIC

Faculty will be able to: Use a variety of multimedia technologies Use presentation tools in optimal situations Provide students with opportunities to use technology Use a LMS when appropriate Make use of the Internet & web-based resources

Goals and Objectives for TIDE

Faculty will be able to: Set-up & administer web-based LMS Use a variety of social interaction tools (i.e. Breeze) Upload course materials & presentation features

during online course meetings Use a variety of multimedia technologies Make use of Internet & web-based resources

Web-Based Training with 9 Modules:1. Introduction2. Distance EducationTechnologies3. MS Word4. MS PPT5. Learning and the Internet6. Multimedia: Sound, Video and Graphics7. Tools for Social Interaction8. Authoring ToolsEvaluation9. Final Assessment: Accessible when Learner has completed

Module 1-8.

Qualities of the WBT:

Navigation is simple

Format and Layout is easy to maintain

Short chunks of information

Self-paced

Take-away job aids

Opportunities to practice learned skills in a safe environment

Page 15: SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P

Introduction with Tutorials

Quick, meaningful segments to teach use of technology.

Page 16: SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P

Case Study

Showcase the use of technology to enhance learning in the classroom

Strategies for Implementation

How to encourage and provide meaningful interactions with the technology

Page 17: SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P

Job Aids and Q&A Forum:

Ensures transition of knowledge from WBT to a classroom setting.

Caters to answer any questions and concerns of the learners.

Page 18: SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P

Simulations

Allows learners to use information in context.

Provides a safe, non-threatening environment to experiment and use implementation strategies.

Guides learners to promote a physical surrounding that promotes collaboration.

SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Our solution incorporates the following:

Training needs analysis Interactive, theory-based WBT Variety of useful technologies Pilot test for evaluation Roll-out strategy

Our solution meets UNU’s needs by: Analyzing the wants and needs of UNU’s faculty Developing a WBT that will meet all objectives Receiving recommended feedback by actual users Presenting user success stories to promote the WBT’s

effectiveness

These were the original needs stated in the RFP – we should probably script comments to address each one as we go through the presentation:

2. Distance education being our primary form of reaching our faculty and staff, the design and development of Web-based Training (WBT) will be considered with the following items in mind:Readability;Navigation that takes into consideration our diversity; perhaps using icons to ease use; andFormat and layout that is easily maintained.3. The content for the WBT should:Be based on solid adult learning theories;Include video-based scenarios of best practices;Animations and job aids aimed at reinforcing best practices shown on videos; andIncentives for continued use (items such as positive feedback and letting the user know when a task is complete).4. Two WBT courses: (1) technology integration in the classroom (TIC) and (2) technology in distance education (TIDE). Both courses should:Have well defined goals and objectives;Target the intended audience;Have formative and cumulative assessments; andHave help menus that are easily accessible and readable.
