Qualified Remodeler magazine,
C&L Ward, ranked 70th in the
country in 2012, moved up the
ranks to 58th in the nation this
year. In Remodeling Magazine,
which does a similar ranking of
the top 550 replacement remod-
elers, C&L Ward ranked 32nd
in 2013, moving them up from
their 2012 rank of 35, as well.
The lists, published annually
by both magazines for over 30
years, rank the top replacement
remodelers in the United States
by revenue. “It’s quite an accom-
plishment and an honor to move
up in the rankings four years in
a row,” said Patrick Ward, C&L
Ward’s president. “With more
than 100,000 remodelers in the
industry, it’s truly a distinction
that sets us apart.”
Ward credits his professional
sales staff and certified install-
ers for representing his fam-
ily name with each and every
project they complete. “Sales
figures are only a part of the
equation,” stated Ward. “I’m
especially proud of our staff for
their commitment ensuring that
our customers are completely
satisfied before, during and after
the sale. It takes everyone’s ef-
fort to receive an honor like this
and they should all be proud of
this achievement.”

Whaley Children’s Center Hosts 28th Annual Whaley Golf Classic
Co-hosted by the voice of the
Detroit Pistons, George Blaha,
and Mateen Cleaves, Flint native
and former Michigan State Uni-
versity basketball star, the event
raised a total of $67,000. All pro-
ceeds go directly toward funding
the residential and therapeutic
programs and services Whaley
provides for nearly 90 child
survivors of abuse and neglect
each year from across the State of
Michigan.
In addition to appearances by
Blaha and Cleaves, celebrities in
attendance included former MSU
Spartan and current Pistons
announcer Greg “Special K” Kels-
er, former Detroit Piston Vinnie
“The Microwave” Johnson,
former Spartans Morris Peterson
and Charlie Bell, former MSU
All-Big 10 center and current
Spartan football analyst, Jason
Strayhorn, and Emmy award
winning songwriter Dave Barrett.
The event commenced with
a celebrity auction offering the
highest bidder nine holes of golf
with each celebrity. “Having such
overwhelming celebrity support
and a dedicated volunteer plan-
ning committee were the major
reasons for the day’s successes,”
said Whaley Special Events Coor-
dinator, DeAndra McCain.
One of the evening’s most an-
ticipated highlights was the live
auction. George Blaha stepped in
as auctioneer and sold everything
from autographed sports memo-
rabilia, meet-and-greets with
Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio
and vacations to Mexico and
South Africa. “Our guests were
extremely generous with their
gifts, and we are especially grate-
ful they spent this important day
with us,” commented Whaley’s
Director of Development, Katrina
Khouri. “All the support from our
community is what keeps our
Center running at such a high
level and allows us to provide
hope, love and care to so many
children who need protection.”

Buying Local Does Make a Difference
All across our great coun-
try, local business owners,
Chamber of Commerce,
and even local govern-
ments are coming together
to send a strong message
to their communities. That
message is Shop Local
First. They feel, as do we,
it is essential to the overall
health of every community
including ours. While all
businesses recognize the
need to provide good prices,
there are significant costs
to every resident when the
lowest possible price is the
only goal.
Let’s face it; no one
wants to pay more and we
are not asking you to do
that. We are writing to you
today to point out that the
cost of not buying local far
outweighs any perceived
price advantage.
Local spending keeps
more money in the com-
munity.
Local businesses pay
higher wages giving em-
ployees more disposable
income.
Local businesses and
their employees support
local charities to a greater
degree.
Local businesses employ
more people-your family,
friends and neighbors.
Local businesses do not
create economic blight
when they leave.
