Editorial: Changes in the editorial board
There were several changes in the composition ofthe Editorial Board of Scientific Computing over thelast few years. These changes reflect extensions in thescope of the journal themes as well as changes in theinterests and activities of our members.
We would like to start with expressing our grat-itude to an Associate Editor, Jim McGraw who formany years led the area of programming languages andparadigms. We are pleased to announce that BarbaraChapman, Professor of Computer Science at Univer-sity of Houston, Houston, TX, USA, has accepted theAssociate Editor position in this area. Dr. Chapman isan active researcher and a leader in the OpenMP areaand she was one of the creators of Vienna Fortran. Prof.Chapman has served as a Guest-Editor in the past andjoined the Editorial Board of our journal in 2000.
In the last two years, the following researchers joinedour Editorial Board.
Prof. Siegfried Benkner investigates high perfor-mance computing and its applications, parallel pro-gramming languages and compilers. Dr. Benkner isthe Director of the Institute for Software Science, Uni-versity of Vienna, Vienna, Austria.
Dr. Jack Dongarra is the Distinguished Profes-sor of Computer Science at University of Tennessee,Knoxville, TN, USA. Dr. Dongarra is a renowned re-searcher in the areas of scientific computing, numeri-cal linear algebra, parallel processing, software tools, mathematical software and software repositories. Hiscontributions include PVM and several widely usednumerical packages.
Prof. Jean-Luc Gaudiot is the chairman of the De-partment of Electrical Engineering and Computer sci-ence at University of California, Irvine, CA, USA. Hisresearch focuses on parallel and distributed comput-ing and its applications, including multithreading, I-structure software caches, network-based parallel com-puting, compile time array partitioning techniques andlow power high performance processors.
Prof. Andrew Lumsdaine interests include com-putational science and engineering, parallel and dis-tributed computing, software engineering, generic pro-gramming, mathematical software, numerical analysis.
Dr. Lumsdaine developed several generic libraries. Heis with the Computer Science Department of IndianaUniversity, Bloomington, IN, USA.
Dr. Piyush Mehrotra is a researcher in NASA AmesResearch Center, Moffet Field, CA, USA. Dr. Mehrotracontributions focus on language aspects of high perfor-mance computing. His work includes parallel compileroptimization and use of XML in scientific computing.
Dr. Kenneth W. Neves is the CIO of Lawrence Liv-ermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, USA.His research interests and contributions center on highperformance computing and its industrial applications.
Dr. Charles D. Norton is a Senior Member ofTechnical Staff and an IT Program Office Managerfor Computing Architectures at Jet Propulsion Labo-ratory, California Institute of Technology in Pasadena,CA, USA. His interests include parallel object-orientedprogramming, performance of high performance com-puting systems, scientific computing, and softwaremodernization techniques emphasizing the use of For-tran90/95/2000 in parallel programming.
Prof. Jan Prins researches parallel algorithms, lan-guages, and architectures; high-level programming lan-guages; compilers; formal techniques in program de-velopment; algorithms for structural biology and bioin-formatics. Prof. Prins is with the Department of Com-puter Science of the University of North Carolina atChapel Hill, NC, USA.
Dr. Joel Saltz is Professor and Chair of the Depart-ment of Biomedical Informatics and Professor in theDepartment of Computer and Information Systems atOhio State University, Columbus, OH, USA. Dr. Saltzcarries out research in methods for developing systemscapable of optimizing performance of queries directedat large grid and cluster based datasets. This work hasinvolved the development of several cluster and gridmiddleware systems including the Active Data Reposi-tory and Datacutter. Dr. Saltz’s previous work includedthe development of runtime and compilation methodsfor efficient parallel implementation and compilation ofadaptive, sparse and multi-resolution numerical meth-ods. His research is motivated by imaging and numer-ical applications drawn from biomedical computing,

petroleum engineering, satellite data processing and theearth sciences.
Prof. Eunice Santos specializes in parallel anddistributed processing, scientific computing, computa-tional biology, algorithms, and complexity. Dr. San-tos was one of the co-authors of LogP model of par-allel computing. She is a faculty at the Virginia Tech,Blacksburg, VA, USA.
Dr. David Skillicorn is a professor of computer sci-ence at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. His interests include parallel and distributed compu-tation. Dr. Skillicorn investigated homomorphisms(BMF), Bulk Synchronous Parallelism (BSP), paral-lel data mining, datacentric computation and, most
recently datacentric grids. He is also interested in cloudcomputing (component-based software construction)and mobile agents.
We would like also to thank for past contribution theformer members of the Editorial Board who left in thelast two years.
Finally, we present the list of reviewers for the lasttwo volumes (9–10). Their contributions to the vitalityand quality of the journal cannot be stressed enough,so we extend our sincere thanks to them.
