MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of McKenzie School is, in partnership with parents and the
community, to build a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and
attitudes in our students.
FRIDAY, January 12, 2018
A Message from our Principal:
Welcome back and Happy New Year to all of the McKenzie Community. I hope that your winter break was restful and that you managed to avoid the dreaded flus that have been circulating! January brings a new commitment to school for all of our students. We have a lot going on in the next term and it’s exciting to see the students enthusiastic about the various learning opportunities that are coming. As a part of Curling Canada’s kick off to the Olympics, we are fortunate to receive free intro-ductory curling lessons right here in our gym through the Rocks and Rings program. We will have the program here at the end of January and in early February for two full days. We also continue to have our free tennis lessons sponsored by the Society for Kids at Tennis and this term we have five new divisions taking part in weekly tennis lessons, also here at the school.
On January 26 we will be having a special assembly and welcome Ms. Morgane Michael who is promoting a “21 Day Small Act, Big Impact” challenge for our students. This whole school initiative will conclude right before Pink Shirt Day on February 28th where will be have a cele-bration assembly. This is a timely event as our PAC recently sponsored a speaker about Anti-Bullying that some of you may have attended.

January 27 - Family Literacy Day
…Donate books to increase early literacy
Do you know that reading books to babies and preschoolers is the most significant indicator of early
school success? Cuddling and reading to your little ones shows that you value reading, builds com-
fort, enjoyment and early skills that last a lifetime.
Help make that true for those still to gain those habits. January 27 is National Literacy Day. As
well as enjoying a new story with your child, please make an extra effort to drop of gently used pic-
ture books for babies and preschoolers in the drop box in the…… All very young children benefit
from being read to – help make that a reality for more. Thank you for being part of the150,000
books donated over the last eight years.
MOVING ON TO MIDDLE SCHOOL….
Are your children outgrowing all their clothes? Can’t keep up to the costs of everything they
need? The McKenzie PAC’s clothing exchange can help! Located in the boys’ change room
just off the Demers Gym, you can select clothes for your kids free of charge. If you’ve been
before, you should check it out again. It has grown, and we now have hundreds of gently-used
pants, shirts, pajamas, hoodies, jackets, shorts, dresses, and shoes. Some are even brand-
name or new with tags. Please consider donating your quality used clothing and child-size
hangers to the exchange, and we’re always looking for volunteers to help us maintain the ex-
change. For access to the change room, please go to the office and ask a staff member to
let you in.
Do you shop at Country Grocer? If so, please save your receipts and bring them to the
school to place in “Juggie” the receipt eater outside the main office. The PAC re-
ceives 3% back in gift cards when we turn them in.
Campbell’s Labels for Education: Please save Campbell’s labels and bring them in to the
jug by the office. The “Labels for Education” Program includes Campbell’s and Habitant soups, Prego
pasta sauce, Pace salsa, Goldfish crackers, and V-8 vegetable cocktail. In the past our PAC has
used the proceeds from the labels to buy gym equipment for our school. Please Note: Effective
January 1st, only products with the Labels for Education logo (pencil with Canadian
flag on it) are eligible. Please include the whole label, with the UPC code and La-
bels for Education logo.
