tennis, horse riding and golf as well as the arts.

All our DP students attend IB classes and take subject courses at either the higher level (HL) or the standard level (SL). The majority take the full IB Diploma. Assessment is through a com-bination of coursework and examination. Students complete their studies in May of the gradu-ating year, when they sit their final xaminations. Final grades for students taking external IB examinations are evaluated by the International Baccalaureate Organization and published on July 6th. IB Diploma students who are successful in their examinations will be awarded the IB Diploma by the Interna-tional Baccalaureate Organization. Students following DP Courses will be eligible for the award of the SIS High School Diploma, subject to fulfilling thegraduation requirements.

Sotogrande International School (SIS) provides a high quality academic and extra-curricular programme for the local and international community of southern Spain. We believe in education as a lifelong process, in developing a love of learning and in the attainment of excellence.

We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) world school and the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes are both offered. The language of instruction is English. There are currently 240 students enrolled in the last four years of secondary school, of whom 110 are in Diploma Years 1 and 2.

In MYP Years 4 and 5 (equivalent to Grades 9 and 10 in the US) SIS offers the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and students take courses in up to eight subject groups as well ascompleting a personal project. Students fulfilling the equire-ments receive an MYP Certific te and Record of Achievement in June of MYP Year 5. In DP Years 1 and 2 (equivalent to Grades 11 and 12 in the US) SIS offers the IB Diploma Programme (DP). Students can opt to take the full IB Diploma or Diploma Programme Courses, which may be assessed either internally or externally by the IB organization. The curriculum is designed so that students can develop their own special talents and empha-sizes critical and creative thinking, intercultural under-standing and community service. The learning path followed is fl xible and allows for students to pursue additional pro-grammes in sports such as

Additional Requirements

All Diploma Programme students participate in the school’s Creativity, Action and Service Pro-gramme and full IB Diploma students complete an extended research essay and follow a course in Theory of Knowledge (TOK); MYP students participate in a work experience programme and the vast majority complete a personal project.

Marking Scheme

The school conforms to the IB system of grading for all internal assessment and for transcripts. This ranges from level 7 (highest) to level 1 (lowest). SIS does not rank students or calculate GPA. 7: Excellent, high quality work 6: Very good work consistently 5: Consistent, thorough work 4: Satisfactory achievement 3: Limited achievement 2: Unsatisfactory achievement 1: Very limited achievement

SIS High School Diploma Graduation Requirements

The SIS High School Diploma may be awarded to students following Diploma Programme Courses, sub-ject to satisfactory completion of the following requirements. Students must achieve a minimum of 24 full-year credits, in accordance with the table below. A minimum level 3 is required in order to receive credit. Grades for credit are awarded in June of each year.
