Student Mobility Rate

The average tour of duty is 2 years in Bahrain. Normally we would assume that 1/2 of our student population will be in their first year at our school at any given time. However, recent civil unrest and a mandatory evacuation in 2004 has made predicting our population movement a challenge. We do anticipate an influx of military students as more families are permitted to return.

Military Dependents There had been a steady increase in our student population after the evacuation of Ameri-cans in 2004. The closure of the school in the spring of 2011 caused another precipitous drop in our student population, though it was not as severe or as long lasting.

Overall, students’ OPIs in Science were higher than students’ OPIs in Math and Reading, with the exception of the OPIs obtained by students in 10th grades. The relatively lower scores in Science Inquiry in grades 6, 7, and 9, support the necessity of Goal #2: Problem Solving.

From 2010 to 2012, 6th, 8th, and 9th grades improved in all areas. 7th grade decreased significantly, 10th and 11th grades showed some decrease. The annual influx of students in grades 10 & 11 present challenges. We have implemented more assistance for students.

From 2010 to 2012: Grade 6 showed decreases in scores in Geometry and Number/Number Sense. 7th grade decreased in all areas, but 8th and 9th grades improved significantly. Grade 10 was consistent, but 11th grade decreased in all areas.
