We are glad to announce the first-ever Cricket T – 20 World Cup for Blind in Bangalore , December, 2012. The World Blind Cricket

Council (WBCC) conferred the hosting rights of the world cup to India during the Annual General Meeting held in Dubai in May

2011. All major test-playing Countries including Nepal are taking part .

The event will greatly bolster the image of blind cricket and cricketers in this age of expanded media drive. We would like to bring to

your notice that blind cricket is purely a rehabilitation drive for the millions of visually impaired across the country.

The game is surviving with very active support and encouragement from generous MNCs/corporate houses/PSUs such as yours, who

have been chipping in to host successful events, along with occasional funding from state and central government agencies.

Otherwise, there is no regular flow of funds over the last twenty odd years.

The T-20 World Cup is estimated to cost around Rs 8,32,12,000/-

Confirmed participants are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies,

Sri Lanka and new entrant Nepal.

The tournament will be played on league cum knockout basis in different grounds.

23 Matches will be played

A grand opening ceremony will be held in KSCA stadium with a ceremonial march past by all participating teams, followed by

cultural events, celebrity appearances and performances, and dance performances by some well known artists and cultural wing of

Samarthanam. over 40,000 people are expected for the Inagural Ceremony

Media coverage: Regional , national & international media is expected to cover this event

Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled has been working

since 1997 to empower the visually challenged, differently-

abled and economically underprivileged people in India.

Samarthanam is working towards providing support to

persons with disabilities to help them keep pace with the

rest of the society by providing quality education,

accommodation, nutritious food, vocational training and

placement based rehabilitation.

Samarthanam promotes an inclusive society which

p r o v i d e s e q u a l o p p o r t u n i t i e s — w i t h o u t a n y

discrimination—for the development of the visually

challenged, differently-abled and economically

underprivileged.

The trust is affiliated to the World Blind Union and

Rehabilitation International.

To empower visually challenged, differently-abled and economically underprivileged people through developmental initiatives focusing on educational, social, economic, cultural and technological aspects.

An inclusive society, free of discrimination against the differently-abled, where people with disabilities, especially the visually challenged, enjoy equal opportunities and an enhanced quality of life.

· To promote primary and higher education among the visually challenged, differently-abled and economically underprivileged people

· To increase accessibility to education and employment opportunities by using assistive aids/ technology and providing comprehensive vocational training

· To reduce malnutrition related disability through nutritional supplements

· To foster artistic, cultural and recreational avenues for persons with disabilities

· To encourage sports and games for people with disabilities, especially the visually challenged.

· To promote eco-friendly living and introduce sustainable waste management practices as innovative vocational opportunities for the differently-abled

· To establish and maintain community based rehabilitation centres for special target groups like destitute women and neglected children

. To work at national and international levels to achieve the objectives of UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Quality Education

Residential Primary & High School

Samarthanam runs a primary school for students from classes I to VII in HSR Layout, Bengaluru and a High School in Hulimavu. The schools provide free accomodation, tuition, books and medical facilities to differently-abled and economically underprivileged children.

Hostels and Facilities

Samarthanam provides secure shelter under vigilant supervision, hygienic and nutritious food and safe transportation. To ensure holistic development of the children, Samarthanam ensures free tuitions, training in extracurricular activities and specially recorded course material for visually challenged students. The facility is being availed by children from far flung, impoverished rural areas in Karnataka as well as neighbouring states.

Disabled Friendly School

Our disabled friendly residential school is envisaged as a state of the art support centre for around 700 visually challenged, differently-abled and economically underprivileged students.

· A 100% accessible building with disabled friendly infrastructure

· Geared to prepare students for mainstream careers through inclusive education and training

· Modern facility equipped with latest technology to specifically help the disabled

· Special facilities including a meditation hall, yoga centre, gymnasium and computer lab

· State of the art classrooms with teaching aids

· Improved physical environment - lighting and paint schemes to help the visually impaired

· Lifts and ramps to assist the physically challenged

· Carpeting and acoustic tiling of classrooms

· Sign boards to aid the hearing impaired

· Information provided through Braille and in large print

· Lectures from eminent scholars on audio tapes

· Assistive Technology - Interactive keyboards, Touch screen computers, and Interactive whiteboards

· The Government of Karnataka, granted 30,000 sqft of BDA land to construct the school, hostel and auditorium.

· The CM of Karnataka has allocated a sum of Rs.1 crore and received for the construction of the school.

The aim of DBLIB is to reach out and catalyze education for the print-disabled (visually challenged, dyslexic children and those with verbal processing difficulties). Samarthanam is an active member of Daisy Forum India (DFI). The prime focus is on school and college students, making course materials and books available in formats supported by screen reader software applications.

It is Samarthanam's endeavour to help young people with disability pursue higher academic and professional courses that will prepare them for today's job market.

We continue to provide financial support, digital audio books, scribes and tutors to support students enrolled in several renowned institutions. Samarthanam also provides free hostel facilities – this enables young men and women from rural Karnataka to pursue their education.

Prevention of malnutrition related disability, along with increasing the literacy rate is the major goal of this intervention. Food is cooked in centralized, automated kitchens and distributed through customized vehicles. Over 2,50,000 meals are supplied each month to students in several aided and non-aided schools.

Samarthanam plays a dynamic role in improving the quality of learning in government schools. As a part of the Jnanavikas program, full-fledged libraries in six government schools in and around Bangalore have been set up, benefitting over 3500 students.

Realizing the importance of Information Technology in today's context, Samarthanam has established a vibrant facility ably supported by IT majors.

The objective is to train differently-abled youth in the use of computers and enable them to access the internet and interact with the world without any barriers. Project Techvision is a multi-dimensional and holistic initiative that aims to use IT as a pivotal tool for empowerment and to provide a 'vision for life' for the visually-challenged and people with other disabilities.

Techvision offers the following training programmes: - Advanced Computer Training (ACT)

- Excellence through Communication in English Language (EXCEL) - Personality Enrichment and All-round Learning (PEARL)

Sports and GamesSamarthanam has actively promoted sports for the visually impaired over the last decade, both as a rightful pursuit and as a platform for their physical and social development. Sportspersons from Samarthanam have regularly participated in National and International athletic events, cricket and chess tournaments. This includes three Cricket World Cup tournaments and tours to Pakistan and England

Building Technical Skills

Samarthanam Srishti provides training in BPO and Call Centre operations to differently-abled youth. Trainees undergo courses in technical and non-technical areas like Call management, Tele calling , Communication skills, Accent training , Customer service, Soft skills, Client Relations and Conflict management. The training centres cater to the needs of the differently-abled and incorporate assistive aids like interactive classrooms, audio visual aids, CRM, JAWS and Simulation Software. A comprehensive training package was developed in collaboration with the BPO Industry. Food and accommodation is provided free of cost. Placement assistance is provided at the end of course based on candidates' performance.

Breaking barriers on the stage and in the field!

Cricket Champions!!India vs. England 2010: Samarthanam took the initiative to send the Indian blind cricket team to England to play a one day cricket series. The Indian team won the series 3-0.

Athletes win Laurels

At the 17th National Sports Meet for the Blind, Samarthanam's junior athletes bagged 1 silver and 2 gold medals while the senior athletes won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Samarthanam CABI to host World Cup Cricket in India!!!

The World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) has conferred the hosting rights of the first-ever T – 20 World Cup to India.

The World Cup is scheduled to be held in December 2012 in Bangalore.

All major test-playing nations - Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka - and Nepal, will be part of the World Cup.

Performance that transcends barriers

Samarthanam encourages talent among differently-abled youth, nurturing their skills in art, music & dance and providing opportunities to perform on stage.'Sunadha', Samarthanam's cultural troupe comprising visually impaired artistes, has given classical and folk dance performances across the country, the U.S. and the U.K. The annual two-month tour of the U.S., wherein Sunadha performs at around 20 educational and cultural centers across many states, is also a source of revenue.The group won the first prize at the All India dance competition held in 2010 in New Delhi.

Providing Sustainable Employment

In 2007, a Home for Women in distress was started with aid from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The home caters to around 50 women from different parts of Karnataka; including women with disabilities, destitute widows and those belonging to economically backward sections.

The Vividha job work enterprise was created by the adoption of an industrial unit of the Karnataka Rural Poor and Handicapped Women Development Society. Persons with disabilities were employed to service outsourced job work orders, providing them with gainful employment and sustenance. Revenue generated from Vividha programmes is channelled into other social initiatives of Samarthanam.

Parisara is an Environment Management Program that was initiated in 2003. Samarthanam has e m e r g e d a s a r e l i a b l e w a s t e management partner to various

corporate houses, with its state-of-the-art technology , t ransport and handl ing

equipment, and prompt service. The goal is to create a waste-free environment and to constantly work on environment-friendly, cost-effective, innovative & sustainable technology. The programme aids in empowering the differently-abled by providing employment opportunities. Parisara helps in generating income for Samarthanam's initiatives.

Samarthanam has a Printer Cartridge Recycling Plant where refilling/remanufacturing is carried out; bringing high quality compatible toner cartridges to the market place, compatible with all major products.Samarthanam Parisara is a registered re-processor/recycler of printer cartridges, authorized and licensed by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.
