Pursuing Passions

I decided to pursue nursing as I was inspired by my mum’s passion for her profession. Studying to be a nurse has been exciting with the opportunity to host nursing students from the International University of Japan during their exchange and the chance to participate in WorldSkills Singapore. CHARMAINE MAURICE FALLARIA NGDiploma in Nursing Year 2 student

The Social Work course at NYP has widened my perspective on social issues in Singapore. The opportunities to learn about the social service sector both locally and overseas have also broadened my horizons. I was also able to put into practice theories learnt in school.

DEBORAH LEE SHI MINDiploma in Social Sciences (Social Work) Year 3 student

The lessons and values taught in this course have shaped me. I learnt that every individual is different and the ways to provide for their needs are diverse. The scope of work is purposeful as it enables me to improve the lives of others. I can’t wait to become a full-fledged oral health therapist.

The past three years have been a treasure trove of lessons. The most rewarding experiences

would be the field placements that I believe are the cornerstone of social work education. They were an incredible avenue for me to apply what I had learnt in classroom settings and they also facilitated both my personal and professional growth.”

GOH AI LINGDiploma in Social Sciences (Social Work) Class of 2017 Industry Attachment Award

I was given the opportunity to organise trips to Bintan where we offered treatment to needy

children and taught them good oral habits. We were able to use the knowledge and skills we had acquired in this course, and seeing the children with their bright smiles and the impact we had made in their lives was truly satisfying. I am thankful for these wonderful experiences.”

I fell in love with nursing from the first ‘attachment days’ and have not looked back. The practical

and hands-on curriculum, and exposure to experiential learning early in the course prepared me well for the real world. Being able to help my patients physically and psychologically has been most fulfilling!”
