10July 2015 Good morning and welcome to our penulmate newsleer of the academic year. This week has been like a whirlwind! Our week started with noficaon that finally our new school build project was to become a reality and a meeng was convened for Tuesday. At the meeng we were joined by representaves from the EFA (Educaon Funding Agency), an architect, technical advisers, designers and project managers. From this point on it is all go and twelve months from now we should be ready to receive the keys to our new school. As the meeng concluded, the pro- ject lead from the EFA shook my hand and said he was glad to finally deliver on his promise to get our new school built. The contractors have requested an open evening next week (you will have received a flyer in book bags on Wednesday - and included below - and is being adversed in the local press today). I believe the evening is an opportunity to meet the enre team behind the pro- ject and to see drawings that have been made. We are excited to see these and I was given a first glimpse earlier this week. We will now meet weekly throughout the remainder of July and August to firm up the configuraon of the school and work will start in the Autumn term. Please do come along and have a look for yourselves at this excing venture. A highlight of the week, were the fantasc results achieved across the school. Year on year we have made improvements and this year’s are our best ever across the whole school. A great year to end the last of the current assessment system. Congratulaons to all of our pupils and to the staff across the school for their fantasc teaching. Please note NA represents Naonal Average. NA for 2015 will be available in December 2015. 10July 2015

Good morning and welcome to our penultimate newsletter of the academic year. This week has been like a whirlwind! Our week started with notification that finally our new school build project was to become a reality and a meeting was convened for Tuesday. At the meeting we were joined by representatives from the EFA (Education Funding Agency), an architect, technical advisers, designers and project managers. From this point on it is all go and twelve months from now we should be ready to receive the keys to our new school. As the meeting concluded, the pro-ject lead from the EFA shook my hand and said he was glad to finally deliver on his promise to get our new school built. The contractors have requested an open evening next week (you will have received a flyer in book bags on Wednesday - and included below - and is being advertised in the local press today). I believe the evening is an opportunity to meet the entire team behind the pro-ject and to see drawings that have been made. We are excited to see these and I was given a first glimpse earlier this week. We will now meet weekly throughout the remainder of July and August to firm up the configuration of the school and work will start in the Autumn term. Please do come along and have a look for yourselves at this exciting venture. A highlight of the week, were the fantastic results achieved across the school. Year on year we have made improvements and this year’s are our best ever across the whole school. A great year to end the last of the current assessment system. Congratulations to all of our pupils and to the staff across the school for their fantastic teaching. Please note NA represents National Average. NA for 2015 will be available in December 2015.

The children have been out this morning practising for the Flower Show tomorrow and have been busy making entries for the various categories. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there on Saturday and remind you that pupils performing in the arena need to be there for 1.35pm where staff will meet them.

Next week we have sports days on Wednesday (KS2) and Thursday (FS and KS1). The events will start at 9.30am but the field will be open before then with hot coffee available from the PTA. The church have kindly agreed to let parents park in the car park on Thursday morning only. Please come and support the children.

Monday evening sees the concert at the Church of the Good Shepherd which Mrs Nightingale and Mrs Reynell have organ-ised on behalf of the church refurbishment project. Please do come and support the event and help raise funds for this ex-citing project.

Finally, my sincere thanks to the Islamic community who invited me to the Iftar at the Shah Jahan Mosque last Friday night. It was a great experience and I couldn’t have been treated better if I was the Queen! Your hospitality and kindness was second to none. I was fascinated to understand more about the Islamic faith, especially during Ramadan and to see the children in their familiar environment.

Wishing you all a great weekend as we head into the last full week of the school year.

Parents will be pleased to hear that this ex-tremely high level data across the school puts Pyrford amongst the top few percent of per-forming schools in the country.

Please be assured though that life is not just about levels of attainment. Although they are important, we pride ourselves on giving chil-dren a great start to life by promoting a range of other skills, such as drama, art, music and sport. My sincere thanks to everyone who supports our school community. Together we make a better life for those we serve.

You should have received your child's report today, which gives full details of your child's progress this year. If your child is in Years 1,3,4 or 5 please do ensure you read the addi-tional information about the removal of levels which has been put in place this year by the DfE. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to your child's class teacher.

Friday Iftar with Mrs Krynicki, Mrs Munro & Mrs Edis

We had a fantastic time with the teachers on Friday evening at the Shah Jahan Mosque with lots of children attending to

welcome them. All the teachers dressed for the occasion with scarves and Mrs Krynicki rocked up in shalwar kameez

(traditional Pakistani dress) and all of them looked amazing. I showed them around the Mosque and library and the chil-

dren and mums presented a brief history of the mosque. We then showcased the Arabic learning that the children do and

recited the Arabic alphabet, parts of the Quran and a Ramadan poem written by my niece, nephew and Hassan. We then

broke our fast together and the teachers had a feast.. We had some really great feedback from Mrs Krynicki and I’m sure

she will be sharing her thoughts with you too.

Facts about the Shah Jahan Mosque … Did you know … This Grade II listed building was the first formal place of worship of

Islam in England? … The mosque was built by an orientalist named Dr Gottlieb Wilhelm Leitner? … He was born of Jewish

parents in Pest, Hungary. Nadia Mughal, Class Rep, Beech

“We had the most wonderful experience and felt truly honoured to be looked after and welcomed by the Islamic community.

It was so lovely to see the children in their own environment and felt lovely to be at ease with you mums - please pass our

sincere thanks to everyone who was involved.” Mrs Krynicki

“We were totally overwhelmed by everybody’s kindness and generosity. It was such a privilege to come and learn so much

about the Mosque and it’s history and to get an insight of what Ramadan means to you all.” Mrs Edis.

Girls from

across KS2

took part in a

Dance Festival

at Bishop Da-

vid Brown

School on

Thursday.

They really

enjoyed them-

selves and behaved beautifully - a real credit to the

school. Thank you to Mrs Porter and Miss Price for

organising.

CALLING ALL YEAR 4 & 5 SWIMMERS…. If you’ve been following the girls’ swimming team this year as they

progressed through the various competitions to become national

medallists, and you want to give it a go…………………………start prac-

tising!

In the next school year, we will be looking to enter the Surrey Re-

lays again in January 2016.

We will need AT LEAST 4 girls and 4 boys from years 5 & 6. You

don’t need to swim in a club, but you do need to be able to swim

your chosen stroke properly. If you’re currently having lessons, or

you’ve had lessons in the past and have stopped but quite enjoyed

it, get to a pool and get swimming!

Who knows where it might lead…….?

Look out for more details in the newsletters next year.

Last week we celebrated Friendly Friday. The children thought about why friends are important,

what it means to have friends and how we can make others feel good. In the beautiful sunshine, the

children took part in activities with new friends from other year groups.

Billy from Sycamore said ‘Can you believe a reception child taught me to skip!’

Olivia from Hawthorn said ‘I made new friends and I played with people that I never thought I’d play

with.’

Across the school, we thought about different aspects of how we live in modern Britain, from tasting

and enjoying the diversity of foods and music to designing new tennis kits for Wimbledon.

We all had a fantastic day and the children gained lots of experiences of sharing, friendship and our

country.
