HEADLINE NOTICES
School Weather Notices
Well done to our students for their
valiant efforts in getting into school
in spite of the recent adverse weather
conditions. We will continue to
monitor the weather forecast
throughout this period and will
advise parents accordingly. Parents are reminded that
our school website www.kingsdalefoundationschool.org.uk
contains the most recent updates as well as details of
our Adverse Weather Procedures. Parents are also asked
to ensure that students are wrapped up warmly for their
journey to and from school, wear appropriate footwear
and walk carefully.
Year 10 Parents’ Evening & School Early
Closure
In order to facilitate the Year 10 Parents’
Evening taking place on Wednesday 14th March
2018, school will finish early at 2.45pm on this
day for students in Years 7-10. School will
close at normal time for students in Years
11-13. Year 10 Parents’ Evening takes place between 3.45
& 8pm and further details will be issued separately.
‘Past Stories, New Voices’
Dulwich Picture Gallery Project
As part of another amazing session within the Dulwich
Picture Gallery Heritage Funded Project entitled ‘Past
Stories, New Voices’, students last week visited the
Clothworkers’ Centre, Blythe House. They were hugely
inspired by the different fashion outfits from the V & A
archive collection. Our students shone whilst discussing
the fashion garments and they produced beautiful
sketches of the different outfits: from vintage 17th century
to contemporary Couture pieces such as Lady Di’s Elvis
Outfit to Alexander McQueen’s angel maxi dress.
SCHOOL NEWS ‘Off The Wall’
Dulwich Picture Gallery Project
On Saturday 10th February, two Year 7
students: Eve and Lilla took part in this
month’s Off the Wall session and joined Art
Director and Artist Kris Turnbull exploring
the angels, cupids, and winged creatures
fluttering around the gallery. Kris, who has
worked on the art direction for shows such
as The Great British Bake Off, shared the
skills of prop-making and design to create
wings of their own from simple materials,
showing them just what can be done with
simple materials and a bit of imagination!

THEME & WORD OF THE WEEK
Opportunities Lost ‘Hell begins on the day when God grants
us a clear vision of all that we might have achieved, of all the gifts which we might have wasted, of all that we might
have done which we did not.’ Do not choose to miss an opportunity’.
Discombobulate ‘Disconcert or confuse (someone)’
TAKE CARE! In this cold weather parents are
asked to remind students that they
must take extra care when
travelling to and from school. It is
important to remember:
CONDITIONS ARE SLIPPERY.
DON’T RUN!
WRAP UP WARMLY!
On Friday 23rd February 2018, we celebrated the
incredibly impressive achievements of our students
during the academic year 2016-17 with three
Annual Prize Giving and Award Ceremony events.
Two of these were held during the day,
celebrating Key Stages 3 & 4 achievement
respectively, with a third being held in the evening
which welcomed back graduates from the school
and Sixth Form students. These were occasions
for us to reflect on the extraordinary
achievements of the last academic year and to
celebrate all that makes Kingsdale Foundation
School such a special place in which to learn and
flourish.
For our evening ceremony we were honoured to
have Chi-Chi Nwanoku OBE, renowned and
celebrated classical musician, as our Guest of
Honour, who spoke to the students of their
achievements but also of those that they could
aspire to with hard work and dedication. Along
with first class musical recitals from our talented
young people, the three events were a highlight of
our calendar year which saw over 500
commendations and prizes for academic
excellence and progress being awarded. Our
students were well supported by our dedicated
staff, their families and friends. It was indeed a
pleasure for all to share in their success on these
occasions.

House News
Throughout this week, students across the
school will be engaged in a range of activities
linked to exploring future career pathways.
During tutor time, lunchtime, lessons and
assemblies, staff will be highlighting the many
opportunities awaiting young people in their
journey towards a specific career choice. So,
as a school we will be supporting 100% the
National Careers Week Campaign. We ask that
parents please continue to have as many
conversations with their child/ren about the
importance of education and how this can
shape and benefit future prospects. We have
provided the link to the useful website below
for parents to explore. Have fun!

International Women’s Day
Thursday 8th March
“Now, more than ever, there's a strong call-to-action to press forward and
progress gender parity. There's a strong call to #PressforProgress
motivating and uniting friends, colleagues and whole communities to
think, act and be gender inclusive.”
To celebrate this important date we will be
holding discussions in tutor time, assemblies
and lessons about the issues relating to
gender parity and equal rights for women.
This will also bring into the focus the recent
celebration of 100 years of the Women’s Vote
in 2018 in the UK Parliament, marking the
struggle of the Suffragettes & other
campaigners.
