School Leadership Team:
OUR AMAZING DANCE GROUPS: Well done to our amazing Stage 2
and Stage 3 Dance Groups for
representing our school at the
Hawkesbury Eisteddfod on
Wednesday.
Each of our groups placed FIRST!
Thank you to our fantastic and dedicated dance
teachers, Miss Andeshmand, Mrs Coburn, Mrs
Dhillon and Miss Bandiera for all their time and
hard work with preparing our students.
We are a very proud school!
PARTNERS IN LEARNING PARENT SURVEY: The Partners in Learning Parent Survey is part of
the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys on student
engagement. The parent survey helps to clarify
and strengthen the important relationship
between parents and school. Parklea Public
School students in Years 4, 5 and 6 and teaching
staff will also be completing a ‘Tell Them From Me
survey’ later this term.
The survey is anonymous and can be used either
as a one-off survey or over time, with the ability to
identify trends within schools and better inform
school priorities. The survey is held once a year in
Term 3 and is run at the same time as the teacher
survey and the second optional student survey.
The survey is conducted entirely online at home
or on public computers during the specific survey
window. The survey takes around 15 minutes to
complete.
Parklea’s unique URL is below:

Please use this URL to log into the survey. The
closing date for submissions will be 8th September
2017.

NEXT P&C MEETING: Our next P&C Meeting will be held on Tuesday 19th
September at 7pm. At this meeting, we will be
presenting this year’s NAPLAN data results. All
parents/carers and our community members are
welcome!
ICAS 2017: ICAS for 2017 has concluded. Well done to all the
students who participated in these assessments.
An extraordinary amount of organisation goes
into coordinating the assessments so every
student has the opportunity to further develop
their assessment capabilities.
Parklea will continue to offer ICAS into 2018!
ROAD SAFETY: We have increasing numbers of parents and
carers reporting issues of students and
parents/carers not following road safety rules
around our school. These include; running across
the road and not using the pedestrian crossing as
well as parking illegally.
These issues could result in serious injury to our
children. Please use the road rules in and around
the school with extra care.
We will be alerting Blacktown Council for their
assistance and asking for extra police patrols in
order to support safe driving, drop off and pick up
in and around our school.
Many thanks to the majority of our parents and
carers who are putting the safety of our students
first!
P&C FATHER’S DAY STALL: On Thursday 31st August, our wonderful P&C are
holding their annual Father’s Day stall where
students can buy a gift for dad, grandpa or a
significant male in their life. Gifts range from $5 to
$20.
We hope that you can support this annual event.
Please see the flyer attached to this newsletter.
We would like to wish our wonderful fathers a very
happy Father’s
Day for next
weekend. We
hope you enjoy
your day with
your loved ones!
MRS GIBB’S BABY ANNOUNCEMENT: We are very excited to
inform you that Mrs Gibb
and her husband welcomed
their second child, ‘Madelyn
Sara’ into the world on
Thursday 10th August. Both
Mrs Gibb and Madelyn are
doing well.
SCHOOL TOUR: Our next ‘school tour’ will be taking place on
Tuesday 19th September from 10:00am-10:50am.
This is for families looking to enrol at our school for
2018.
Please contact our office staff to book your
place!
PLAYGROUND MARKINGS: The school has added some additional
playground markings around our school. We have
also extra handball courts and we are currently
working on our entrance sign as you walk into the
school. The students especially love the animaze
and chessboard.
Below are just a few of these playground
markings:
SCHOOL UNIFORM: Please be reminded that the continuation of
wearing full school uniform is an expectation at
our school. Students are not permitted to wear
coloured or patterned jackets/ jumpers or
coloured tights/leggings under dresses.
It would be greatly appreciated if families could
ensure that your child/children are in full school
uniform when coming to school each day. Thank
you for your ongoing support.
NAPLAN ONLINE: Students in Year 3 and Year 5 will sit the NAPLAN
readiness test between the 4th and 8th September.
Your child will not need any academic
preparation as this is not a test of their literacy and
numeracy skills, but an opportunity for them to
experience the online test format and for our
school to assess its online testing capability. Your
child will be required to have a working set of
headphones at school for the week of readiness
testing.
Parents and students interested in familiarising
themselves with the NAPLAN Online format can
access the NAPLAN Online demonstration site
that includes sample tests for each NAPLAN year.

If you would like your child to be exempt from the
NAPLAN online testing, please contact your
child’s classroom teacher or Mrs Gracie.
Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward
to the next two weeks of amazing things
happening at our school!

School News K-2 ASSEMBLY CHANGE:
As a result of our P&C’s Father’s Day Stall, K-2
Assembly has been moved to Tuesday 29th August
at 12:45pm.
DEBATING NEWS:
Congratulations to our two debating teams who
both won their debates this week!
Our Ridges Debating Team – Tammi, Seth,
Maxwell and Prashaant versed Ironbark Ridge
Public School. The topic was, ‘children should only
watch TV on the weekend’ and they were the
affirmative team.
Our Premier’s Debating Team - Swara, Parneet,
Arlene and Florence versed Walters Road Public
School. The topic was, ‘sport should be replaced
with more class time’ and they were the
affirmative team.
Both teams were strong and delivered their
content convincingly. It has been exciting to
watch their skills in rebutting develop, particularly
when the topics deal with current affairs.
We look forward to their next debates later in the
term!

HAWKESBURY DANCE EISTEDDFOD PARKLEA
#1:
On Wednesday 23rd August, the Stage 2 and
Stage 3 Dance Groups performed at the
Hawkesbury City Dance Eisteddfod, where they
competed against other schools in the local area.
The day started with a very entertaining bus ride,
where the students sang an array of songs all the
way out to the Windsor Function Centre. Even the
bus driver was
bopping
along to our
delightful
singing.
Both dance
groups
performed
brilliantly, showcasing their amazing talents and
fantastic, well-rehearsed dance routines. Both the
Stage 2 and Stage 3 Dance Groups placed first in
their respective sections, receiving a plaque from
the major and also
some prize money -
which we are hoping
to put towards the
purchase of a cabinet
to showcase all of our
CAPA trophies and
banners.
The adjudicator’s
feedback stated that
both groups were beautifully attired, well
groomed and that the dance routines were very
well executed. Thanks to our awesome dance
teachers, Miss Andeshmand, Mrs Coburn, Mrs
Dhillon and Miss Bandeira for their outstanding
choreography. Thank you also to the teachers
and students for all of the time they have spent
perfecting their routines prior to this Eisteddfod.
We are very proud of all of the dancers and their
fantastic achievement!
Well done Parklea!
