• Incorporates relative performance of pupils in all four subjects
• Allows pupils to be ranked fairly relative to their peers
• Is not the sum of the individual rawscores
• Sum of T-Scores for each subject
PSLE Aggregate Score
•Different subjects have different levels of difficulty•Pupils’ marks are spread over a wide range from the average mark•Raw scores do not take into consideration pupils’ marks, in comparisonto that of their peers’
Why raw scores are not used
• Stands for Transformed Scores• Indicates position of a student’s performance
relative to all other students in that subject• Raw scores only tell us how good a student is
in that subject, NOT how good he is as compared to the other students
• Different subjects have different levels of difficulty
• So are the spread of marks (standard deviation) from the average mark
PSLE T-Score
Jeremy’s results
English Language: 85%
Chinese Language: 85%
These are RAW Scores!
Example
• To understand how well Jeremy had performed in English Language and Mother Tongue Language, we need to consider:
• How other students performed at the same examination
• Spread of marks (standard deviation) around the average
Example
Jeremy scored 85% for EL Jeremy’s Score = 85%
EL
EL average = 60%
His performance is much better in EL as compared to his peers

- T-Score converts the average mark of each subject to a common score of 50 points.
- Converts other marks taking into consideration - the extent to which they differ from the average - the size of spread of the marks around the average
Example

Jeremy’s T-Score will be converted:
