Prep MD NewsPrep MD have been busy helping their friend Teddy. Teddyhas asked them to be scientists and conduct experimentsto help him understand materials and their properties. Thisweek the Preppies finalised their investigation by suggestingmaterials that Teddy could use to build a new house. Theirhouses were constructed to be strong, waterproof and keeptheir mini-Teddies safe outside over the weekend. Thumbs up ifyou kept Teddy safe; Thumbs down if you did not.

1/2R Science News1/2R have been learning about living things in Science thisterm. We have created habitats for our echidnas and rainbow

lorikeets and explored the impact of humans on their habitats. We have learnt about deforestation and land clearing for farmsand houses and the impact of this on the lives of the animals.

News from 5/6CSince returning to the classroom in Week 6, 5/6C students havebeen very busy with all their learning. We have attacked ourlearning with fantastic positive attitudes and excellent effort.

In Maths we learnt about angles, types of angle; how tomeasure angles with protractors; interior and exterior angles;finding unknown measurements of angles using our knowledgeof angles on a straight line and in a full 360 degrees; extendingrays, lines and intersecting angles. We completed many handson activities such as the ones in the photos. In this activity, welearnt how to label angles and the symbol used for an angle, and then we measured the interior angles of the shapes. Wethen had to work out what the exterior angles would measureat each vertex, using our interior angle and our knowledge. Wehave also been learning about Transformations, Tessellationsand Symmetry. Below are some Tessellations we created.

Science has been very hands on also. After learning about theproperties of light, we embarked on an investigation into howlight travels. Using a given template of a maze, reflective card, shoe box, Blu-Tack & a torch, we had to get the light fromthe torch to enter a small hole in one side of the box and outanother on the opposite side and end of the box. Sounds easyhowever, there were two walls in the way. After much planning, consideration and experimentation, we all were successful. Wethen investigated changing the appearance of the light. Againsounds easy, but because we were slowing down the photonsof light it was much trickier than we thought and definitely notas bright when the light exited the second doorway. We alsotested out Newton’s Wheel. Using the colours of the rainbowin each section of the circle and a bamboo skewer throughthe centre, we tested the effect of spinning the wheel faster orslower on the colour our eyes saw. The faster the wheel spunthe ‘whiter’ the light we saw, rather than each individual colour. How cool!

We have also been working on completing our art project webegan with Rockhampton State High. Our Indigenous styledesigns for the theme ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ and theDream Time Stories that we read and listened to are almostcomplete.

3/4S Kindness WallIn a world where we can be anything, in 3/4S we are kind. This semester our classroom focus has been about spreadingkindness. This key ingredient assists children to feel good andhave a positive outlook on the daily activities that take place inour lives. To create our kindness wall each student had to writetheir name in the centre of a piece of paper and pass it aroundto their peers. A compliment was written and received by everymember of 3/4S. This was a great confidence booster and awonderful way to spread the love.

Parent access to the school groundsA reminder to parents that there is no access to the schoolgrounds without prior approval.

If you need to collect your child early please contact the schooloffice. Prior notice means we can have your children waiting foryou at the office for you to collect.

Unfortunately the current restrictions mean we are unable toallow birthday celebrations with cake/cupcakes brought intothe school. As restrictions ease we will keep parents updatedon when these celebrations can re-commence.
