School Assembly Our school assembly will be held tomorrow in the K/1 room. All parents, carers and
friends are invited to join us as we recognise the achievements of our students.
North Coast Athletics Carnival Good luck and hopefully some personal bests will be achieved by our athletes
who travel to Lismore tomorrow to compete at the North Coast Athletics
Championships. We wish Amali, Seth, Kya and Claire D all the best for a successful
day.
Premier’s Spelling Bee The Premiers Spelling Bee was held today at Ballina PS. The four students who
attended today were Hayley, Millie, Shelby and Oceanah. The latest results
reported to us is that Shelby reached the fourth round and Oceanah the 6th
round. There were 24 entrants in the junior division. Well done girls!
Shrek PerformanceWe have recently been informed that Empire Vale Public School will be presenting
their drama performance again this year. The performance is a wonderful
production with all students involved in the presentation and will held on Friday

Our school has changed the date for our final gymnastics session so that we are

“Shrek” which sounds exciting.
A permission note is attached to this newsletter and we
are asking for a quick return of the notes to determine
available transport. We do apologise for the late notice
about this event. As in the past we require support from
our parents to provide transport. Parents are welcome to
stay for the performance if they so desire.
Positive Behaviours Survey This survey is an opportunity for our parents to have
their say about what they believe are the behaviours
most important to our school, so we provide the best
environment for positive learning experiences for our
students. We are asking every one of our families to
complete the survey and return it to school even if you
just sign the bottom to say you agree with those ideas
that have been presented by staff. We certainly welcome
any comments you may also have.
Thank you to those 8 families who have returned the
survey already. Remember, every child whose family
completes the survey will receive a lollipop for their
effort. So, come on and help us make the survey a true
reflection of our whole school community.
Our DispositionsTeachers delivered their final lesson this week on the
seven Dispositions that support Creative and Critical
Thinking. The Disposition introduced this week was being
Reflective and our classes discussed its importance and
worked together to discover the meaning of this way of
thinking.
R U OK? Day Thursday 13 September is ‘R U OK? Day’.
R U OK? is a suicide prevention charity
that aims to start life-changing
conversations by simply asking, “Are you OK?”
R U OK? is a national conversation movement that is
equipping Australians with the skills and confidence to
support those struggling with life. Staying connected and
having meaningful conversations is something we can all
do. You don’t need to be an expert - just a good friend
and a great listener. So, if you notice someone who might
be struggling - start a conversation.
Tell Them from Me Parent SurveyThe survey is only open from 21 August until 13 October.
The survey which has been customised for our school
takes about 20 minutes to complete and can be found at:
https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/1361
Please remember all families who complete the survey
will go into a draw to win a $50 gift card. All questions are
multiple choice and the survey is anonymous!
We would love to have at least 80% of our 35 families
complete this. It’s easy, just log on and have your say!
Senior Excursion UpdateThank you to those families who have paid the $60
deposit for our Term 4 excursion to Woody Head. We
would appreciate the deposit before the end of this term.
All families have the option of paying by instalment or as
one full amount once the deposit has been paid.
Please make your payment electronically through our
school website or by cash or cheque to the office.
Community Nurse VisitThe community nurse from Community and Allied Health
will visit our school next Tuesday 18 September to have
follow up appointments with students seen earlier this
year. Children in Kindy up to 8 years of age or new to the
school have access to this service.

Working with Children CheckA reminder to our fabulous volunteers that a Working
with Children Check is required by all volunteers who have
contact with children through school activities. There
is no cost for the WWCC unless you are a paid worker.
Any parent who volunteers to help with school activities
(parent reading, transporting students, swimming helper
etc) are asked to apply for a WWCC. You can apply for a
via the following link.
https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-
working-childen-check
If you haven’t already provided your WWCC number to
the office could you please do so asap. Parent drivers
please ensure you have also provided the school with your
current registration/3rd party green slip and licence.
We thank our families for their assistance and support of
these DoE Health and Safety Guidelines.
Are you ready to dance? Only 5 sleeps to go!
The school disco, organised by the SRC, is quickly
approaching. It will be held next Tuesday 18 September
from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. It is to be held at Broadwater
Community Hall. The SRC have been busy planning an
enjoyable evening for the whole school community.
The SRC members will go to the hall next Tuesday after
lunch with Mr Schofield to set up and decorate the hall
ready for the evening. Years 3 to
6 children are asked to please
bring a plate of food to share for
the supper. Children are to be
reminded to bring their own drink bottles. Tea and coffee
will be provided for the parents and carers.
Please remember the dress for this disco is free choice. The
cost for the disco will be $5 per student or $10 per family
which is to be paid at the door. The financial proceeds
from the disco (which is always over 80%)
will go to help the drought affected
farmers appeal. It will be a great night of
fun for the whole family and of course for all the teachers.
We will even have two songs where all will be able to free
dance, making up your own moves. Hope to see you at the
disco. (Mr Schofield and SRC)
The Broadwater Talent Show is coming soon!
On Thursday 27 September we will be holding a Talent
Show. Our SRC raised the idea of running this Talent Show
and are working hard to make it a fun and successful
showcase of talent.
Students who wanted to do an item have already filled in
a form and will be able to audition next week.
The Talent Show will be held at school from 1:45pm to
2:45pm on this last Thursday of the term. Parents are
welcome to attend. There will be a gold coin donation from
all performers which will be added to the donation from
the disco for the drought affected farmers of our nation.
We will be entertained by students singing, playing
musical instruments, performing dances and presenting
drama skits. It will be a great opportunity for students
to showcase their skills and talents in the Creative Arts
areas. There will be fun prizes to be won chosen by SRC
members.

Science NewsOn Wednesday this week excitement filled the air as the
1/2/3 Class members carried their constructed boats
ready to meet the floating and sinking test.
One boat at a time they were put to the test. Students
watched with eagerness as the boats were placed into
the large plastic tub with water to see if their boats would
pass the test. Most of the boats passed with flying colours
and stayed afloat. A small number tipped over sideways
or went under and sank. We reflected on the Scientific
principles as to why they either floated or sank.
The pictures will tell the rest of the
story of the sailing adventures of the
1/ 2/ 3 Class.
On Wednesday afternoon the K/1 Class
www.broadwater-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Page 4
spent most of the afternoon making
their boats with recycled materials. Stay tuned for the
results in next week’s newsletter.

for their excellent borrowing record and will be rewarded
