Introduction

Welcome to Scholarly Publication 2011 – a booklet that brings together a selection of research activities at the Petroleum Institute.

The Petroleum Institute (PI) is a teaching and research university with a strong commitment to research excellence in engineering and applied sciences related to the oil and energy industries.

The Institute is internationally recognized for its basic and applied research and its technology development. Its research output is reflected annually in the quality and range of scholarly publications, which include articles in prominent international peer-reviewed journals, as well as books, book chapters and conference proceedings.

This document provides details of the scholarly publications in 2011 of the PI’s faculty, staff and graduate students in the College of Engineering, Arts & Sciences Program, Advanced University Placement Department and the Independent Learning Center.

It thus provides an indispensable guide to the PI’s research activities for our industrial sponsors and the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as prospective faculty and students. It also serves as an invaluable resource for the international academic and research community, indicating potential research collaboration opportunities with PI faculty.
