SCEL English program designed to develop both communicative and academic English language skills and Cultural understanding necessary for fluency.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)This course provides advanced ESL students with the opportunity to improve their academic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Upon completion of EAP, students are able to analyze academic materials critically and to express themselves fluently, accurately and logically, both orally and in writing.
EAP + One College CourseStudents in the EAP program are eligible to take one regular college credit course while they are studying at SCEL. The college course can be selected from hundreds of courses offered each term.

ESL students are part of the regular college student population, and can join in all student activities, including the International Club, the Peer Mentor Program, and any of the 30 other clubs on campus.

Course Content
Morning Class: In the morning students study all integrated skills (Reading / Writing / Listening / Speaking / Grammar). Afternoon Class: This crucial component to the program focuses on improving writing skills - from basic sentence construction to different essay formats.

SCEL/SCC/UNIVERSITY
Study in the USAInternational Students can obtain a degree at any of USA’s universities and university colleges. Entry requirements for specific programs vary, but all require a suitable level of English. SCEL Academic Advisory staff assist students to find the right choice of program and university for their bachelor or master’s degree.
Semester Start DatesAmerican universities and colleges have different start dates for different programs. It is important for students to plan their study program in USA around the university entry dates.
Work and StudyInternational students studying degree programs at American universities can work and study, but conditions apply. Students at High Schools, Colleges, and Institutions who are studying non-credit programs at universities can not work.
Pathway to USA’s Best Colleges & UniversitiesAll students wishing to enter a college or university in USA must have a proven high level of English. The Spokane Community College has a partnership agreement with SCEL whereby students can study EAP courses at SCEL. Completion of EAP meets English entry requirement for the Spokane Community College undergraduate programs.

Spokane Community College (SCC) - A.A. Transferable Degree Programs
Completion of EAP will meet the English language proficiency required by Spokane Community College. SCEL staff, together with the International Programs Office at SCC, will help the students to enroll at SCC and register for college classes.
International students who apply to Spokane Community College (SCC) may also receive a conditional admission to one of our partner Universities in the Spokane region:
Dual Enrolment Programs have the following benefits for students:
• Pre-admission to the University of their choice.• Eligibility for scholarships.• Help from advisors in planning the University transfer process.• No further applications are required.• No TOEFL score is required.
Students are free to apply for transfer to any academic institution at the conclusion of their A.A. program.

Located just 15 minutes from downtown Spokane, SCC has a strong educational tradition in the liberal arts. After earning their Associate of Arts (transfer) degree at SCC, most students complete their Bachelors degree at one of the major universities in the Spokane region. SCC is also highly regarded for its professional-technical programs, including specialties in the health sciences; information technology, hospitality and culinary arts, agriculture, and natural resource management.
Students who complete either the A.A. or A.A.S. degree are eligible for a one-year work authorization in the United States. This is an excellent opportunity for students to continue to develop their English skills, work in their field of interest, and further explore the American culture.
