High school and college students flock to video sites for entertainment. SCC’s YouTube channel recently underwent a face lift and now includes a branded trailer providing a glimpse of a day in the life of an SCC student.

The trailer mirrors recent TV and radio commercials as well as the updated

publications designed for prospective students and by use of SCC’s recruitment and outreach team. In addition to the trailer, content on the channel has been sorted for easy search and viewing. Visitors can find SCC’s commercials, event videos, promotional videos, athletics videos and instructional videos on the channel. Visit youtube.com/StCharlesCC to take a look.

Women’s soccer scores national attention

The SCC women’s soccer team has more than a couple of things to cheer about this month.

The team is currently ranked 12th in the nation (NJCAA, Division I) and boasts a 7-1 record. The team is led by Head Coach Josh Tyler and Assistant Coach Ashlee Slaybeck.

Earlier in the month, freshman forward Raven Loughridge was named NJCAA Player of the Week (Sept. 1-7). To that point, Loughridge had posed 9 goals, 3 assists, 21 points, 30 shots and 18 strikes on goal.

The next home game will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2. For more information, visit stchas.edu/athletics.

Drews named to state-wide DESE committee

Kathy Drews, director of the Child Development Center, has been asked by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Director of Early Learning to serve on a committee to complete their work on Missouri’s Early Learning Goals (formerly Early Learning Standards).

“Congratulations to Kathy for this honor that speaks so highly of her professional knowledge, skills, and leadership,” said Donna Davis, vice president for human resources.

The 24th annual St. Charles Regional College Fair, traditionally held on a weekend day, has moved to Thursday, Oct. 16, and will run from 6-7:30 p.m. in the College Center. The fair, which features as many as 100 local and regional colleges and universities and the armed services, is for high school juniors and seniors and their parents.

The SCC Transfer Fair will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., also in the College Center, and will assist current SCC students who are interested in transferring to a four-year college or university. Representatives from some 35+ institutions will be on hand to answers students’ questions.

Students and parents can find the names of colleges and universities attending the fairs, as well as a list of helpful questions to be prepared for the fairs, at stchas.edu/collegefair.

Michael Kuelker, professor of English and event organizer, discusses how the practice of fracking is covered by American news media at the 14th annual SCC Democracy Days, held Sept. 15-18. Fracking is a method of gas and oil extraction that has raised concerns about damage to the environment and about the power of corporations in American life.

Held annually around Constitution Day, Democracy Days explores timely
