Introduction Activity to increase student’s employability

The Computer Engineering Department has been involved in various activities especially laying emphasis towards the employability of the final year students. The activities includes mock personal interviews, Group discussions, technical interviews, insistence to dress formal during presentations, special career guidance sessions etc.,

As a part of this, the department conducted online Test on 3 rd, 4th & 7th September 2015 for the BE students under the Spoken Tutorial Project of IIT-B & Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The report presents the details & statistics of the activities.

DETAILS ON TEST ON ‘C’ ON 3RD SEPTEMBER, 2015

On 3rd September, 2015, the students from Final year of the department attended their first test of Spoken Tutorials on C programming language.

The students were brushed up with the concepts on C by trainers and were prepared to attend the test.

The details of the test is as follows

DETAILS ON TEST ON ‘C++’ ON 4TH SEPTEMBER, 2015

Following the successful completion of the online Test on C, the next day test on C++ was conducted. On 4th September, 2015, the students attended test of Spoken Tutorials on C++ language.

As in the case with C, the trainers took sessions to revisit some C++ concepts, cleared doubts on the topics & were equipped to attend the test.

DETAILS ON TEST ON ‘JAVA’ ON 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2015

Online Test on JAVA was conducted on 7th September, 2015 following the test on C & C++ . Before the test, the students were revised with the fundamentals of JAVA programming, the sessions being lead by trainers.

RECOGNITION BY IIT-B

• Though many engineering colleges undertook the online “Spoken Tutorials test” conducted, Atharva College of Engineering was the first private Engineering college in Maharashtra to conduct this test on a large scale.

• Receiving a special word of appreciation from IIT-B, the timetable of ACE’s Spoken Tutorial Test was shared with other colleges across the state encouraging them to conduct the test on a large scale.

SUMMARY OF THE ONLINE FEEDBACK

• After the completion of tests, an online feedback was taken from the student using the google forms.

• The feedback form covered various aspects right from the productivity of the test and how much it helped the students in assessing themselves in terms of their technical capability in the languages C, C++ & JAVA.

Talk To A Teacher project at IIT Bombay.

• The trainers and organisers who were actively involved with conducting the sessions were awarded with certificate of appreciation by IIT-B.



• It was specified that ACE has done a major contribution of using ICT based teaching- learning methodology.

• 18 staff from the Department of Computer Engineering were certified along with Mr. Romil Dhodhiwala, a student from the Department of IT, who organised the Online Test.

IMPACT ON PLACEMENTS

• As a result of the activity, the students testified about their increase in self-confidence and were able to work on the technical topics that they were weak and prepare well for the placements.

• The placements for the current academic year commenced from 1st of October, 2016.

• 71 job offers were secured by the students of Computer Engineering Department, the highest number of all other departments.

• The details of the placements are as follows:

• As a whole 12 students hold dual placements and 59 students are placed in one company.

FUTURE PLANS

• The impact of such sessions on the employability of a student is high.

• Hence the department plans to extend this training activity that will boost their employment opportunity for Third year and Second year students.
