SC HOSA is committed to securing funding to provide scholarships to our members. Our partners are generous in their financial support to students interested in healthcare professions. SC HOSA also provides scholarships, in honor of Shirley Connell and Nancy Allen, in memory of Barbara James, former SC HOSA State Advisors. This year, other donations to the scholarship fund were given in loving memory of Brandon Mayo, White Knoll High School student HOSA member.

National HOSA Representative Bethany Mackey
A life can change in an instant. Bethany’s changed when she witnessed poverty in Brazil. She was on her first international mission trip in Columba, Brazil, when she realized the lack of adequate health care in many countries. It was there she found that her passion was helping those who weren’t able to provide for themselves. Bethany has become an advocate for public health awareness and plans on pursuing a degree in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health at East Tennessee State University. Bethany has been involved in HOSA for 10 years. Her journey began when her mother became a health science educator in 2003. Bethany has been a part of the chapter’s activities ever since. In high school she ran for chapter office and during her senior year she served North Carolina HOSA as the District 8 Representative and the North Carolina Vice President. Bethany will continue
her involvement in HOSA at ETSU this coming year. “When life hands you lemons don’t just make lemonade, make lemonade and serve it to the world.” -Unknown

SC HOSA State Officers & State Advisors
Meet your 2013-2014 SC HOSA Officers
AAKASH SHINGALA President
Serving as State President this
past year has been one of the
greatest experiences of my life. To say I’ve enjoyed it would not
do it justice. I have learned so
much in my time and grown as a
leader in so many ways. I know
that the skulls that I have gained
will help in my career as a health professional. What makes
being a state officer most
memorable, though, would be
all of the great people I have
met. From my awesome officer team to the other state officers
I’ve met from around the nation
and all of the SC HOSA
members I have had the honor
of serving. I have realized that
the future really does start now with HOSA members from
around the nation. Thank you to
SC HOSA for the amazing
opportunity!
Current Plans: Attend Duke or Clemson / Major: Biochemistry
Career Goal: Surgeon
PAULINA TUCKER Vice-President
As I reminisce upon my year as
your SC HOSA Vice President, I
can say that this remarkably great organization has helped me and
has given me many opportunities
that no other organization has
offered. This past year, we as an
organization, have met many
goals together. I enjoyed my term in office and the fun times we had
at Nationals, as well as State. My
experience has been great; I
would like to thank each member
individually for allowing me to represent them. I am looking
forward to seeing HOSA reach
the top, as the nation’s greatest
student led organization. SC
HOSA, let’s keep up the great
work and climb to the top together.
Current Plans: Lander University / Major: Biology Career Goal: Oncologist
MAKAYLYN HIGGINS Post-Secondary Vice-President
As the end of my two years commitment with HOSA comes to a close, I am very proud to say this organization has changed me for the better. These years, I will never forget. I have enjoyed my officer team and amazing advisors. I thank you, SC HOSA, for allowing me this opportunity. I know that the skills and leadership training that I have learned will always help me in everything I do. HOSA has given me so many skills, that I could not have learned in the classroom, and my hope is that you will also have the same opportunities I have had through this amazing organization. Thank you again, South Carolina HOSA, for allowing me to serve you.
Future Plans: Attend Newberry College / Major: Nursing, Religion
Career Goal: Nurse Practitioner Missionary
REBEKAH TREASTER Secretary
As I look back on my year as SC HOSA Secretary, I am honored to say that I have been a member of an amazing organization. Being a part of such a close-knit team has opened up many doors to my future, not only in state but across the nation. Many of the opportunity made accessible to me through HOSA have shaped me into the individual that I am today. Through HOSA, I have made lasting friendships through connections for my future career. My year as a state officer has allowed me to grow a better Future Health Care Professional, a better citizen of my state and nation, a better member of HOSA as well as a best friend. As I look back on my year as your SC HOSA Parliamentarian, I can truly say that it has been an amazing experience. I have met so many incredibly people, and made lifelong friends. HOSA has changed my life in many ways and has taught me so many life lessons. A year ago I would have never seen myself making a speech in front a thousand of people and being such an inspiration to others. I could never see myself sitting HOSA nationals in Nashville, Tennessee, listening to a speech given by Ben Carson. I could never imagine having this wonderful opportunity to make such a difference in HOSA. This organization has helped me develop team and my wonderful HOSA advisors who have made this year possible. I will continue on from here, taking in everything from this experience and there will always be a place in my heart for HOSA.
