The Solution Function Meets Form Factor

As they reviewed devices from multiple OEMs—medium tablets, small tablets and smartphones—Safelite decided that the Galaxy Note II was the perfect form factor for their eld technicians because of screen size. Safelite also appreciated the level of software customization the device allowed through the Android® operating system. They also liked the fact that the device did not have too much bloatware. The Galaxy Note II’s 5.5" display was a big hit with technicians who participated in the Galaxy Note II pilot test. In addition, Samsung’s SAFE-enabled devices allowed more MDM capabilities. The number of APIs (application program interfaces), more than 330 available through Samsung, greatly exceeded those of other device manufacturers. Samsung’s competitive MDM capabilities, as well as its top-quality hardware, made Samsung Safelite’s rst choice.

Safelite brought in a group of technicians with varied levels of expertise to test newer-generation devices. They displayed on a table devices by multiple manufacturers with various form factors and asked the technicians to identify which ones they preferred. Technicians were instructed to evaluate both the hardware and the software of each device. At rst, the technicians preferred tablets over smartphones. However, after further testing, the technicians selected the Galaxy Note II, which serves as a hybrid between a tablet and a smartphone. Technicians are now using these devices in their vans when they drive off-site to meet customers. The Galaxy Note II is serving as the technicians’ computer as they are constantly mobile, working outside of an of ce.

With the rollout of the Galaxy Note II, Safelite has been able to save money and operate more ef ciently by eliminating the use of paper to capture customers’ signatures.

Safelite has also been able to improve compliance utilizing the S Pen™ as signatures can be easily collected on the Note II by eld technicians. In addition, the device has improved the speed and accuracy of VIN collection. Technicians have to collect full 17-number VIN numbers while servicing customers. Now they can scan a bar code, snap a picture or even use voice entry to record numbers, allowing for more accurate data collection.

Associate engagement with the device has gone up because of this highly desirable device. The intuitive form factor and user interface of the Note II have made it easy for a diverse group of technicians with different levels of expertise to adopt this new business tool.
