IBC (Inter-Branch Council) Luncheon
Saturday, January 24, 2015
11:30am-2:00pm
Speaker Panel Topic: Human Trafficking in Southern
California On Saturday, January 24th, we will join the Simi and Thousand Oaks AAUW branches for the annual IBC (Inter-Branch Council) luncheon. This year we have a very interesting and informative program. There will be a panel of three speakers addressing the large problem of human trafficking in Southern California. All three speakers are local (one an FBI agent) and are involved in this social issue from different sides, from prosecution to providing assistance for victims. A buffet luncheon (including salmon) is included in the low ticket price of $30.
Contact Janet Lindquist at 805-437-6244 to make your reservation, and send your check made payable to
Camarillo AAUW directly to her at 32106 Village 32, Camarillo, 93012.
Join us at Los Robles Greens Golf Course in Thousand Oaks!

No one has stepped up to coordinate Great Decisions meetings earlier in the day for 2015, therefore we will proceed with our regular schedule: 5:30-7 pm on the 4th Wednesday of each month at Linda Cohenour's house off Santa Rosa Road. Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 to discuss Russia and the Near Abroad. We will follow that with 7 more monthly meetings to cover the remaining topics: Privacy in the Digital Age, Sectarianism in the Middle East, India Changes Course, U.S. Policy Toward Africa, Syria's Refugee Crisis, Human Trafficking in the 21st Century, and Brazil's Metamorphosis. We prepare for each meeting by reading the appropriate chapter on our own. At each meeting, we watch a video on the topic, and then discuss it until we run out of time. This is a safe, informative, and non-political venue for discussing important and current foreign policy matters - no experience necessary. For more information on the program, please go to www.greatdecisions.org. The cost per member depends on the number of participants - most likely it will run between $25 and $30 per person for materials. Each person will receive an individual copy of the book, and we will share the cost of the DVD and shipping. To order a book and join this group, please phone or email Kim Stephenson by January 7, 2015 at [email protected] or 231-2733. You can reimburse her for your share when you pick up the book. Please note: Even if you told her that you would like a copy of the book earlier in the Fall, please confirm that with her before January 7th.

ARE YOU AWARE OF THE LATEST
DEVELOPMENTS ABOUT BIRTH CONTROL?
We are finding that people of all ages are in need of up-to-date information about birth
control, whether for themselves or to share with others. I hope we can get a good representation from AAUW and their friends and family. We are also looking forward
to sharing stories about the history of birth control to help younger generations appreciate the advances they might take for granted.

JANUARY GENERAL MEETING
Are crimes really solved? Can your handwriting give you away? Come find out on January 27, 2015, as Sheila Lowe tells us all about handwriting forensics. Sheila is an author who uses handwriting forensics in her novels. (You may remember that she spoke at Authors’ Day in 2013.) Join us at 7 PM at VCCF, 4001 Mission Oaks Boulevard, Camarillo.
Please RSVP to Judi Gill at [email protected] or Barbara Hilburn at [email protected]
Please be advised that the doors at VCCF automatically lock at 7 PM. Please try to come a little early. If you arrive after 7, please knock on the door or on the windows to the right of the rear door. If you know you will be late and can advise Barbara or Judi, we’ll be on the lookout for you!
“Architects for Change”
In light of numerous recent events around the world, from the kidnapping of girls in Nigeria, to the stoning of pregnant women in Pakistan, to the epidemic of rape being revealed on college campuses, it is critical for the world to hear about women who are fighting the courageous battle to advance women’s human rights. While the media focuses on the struggles and violence women face, you can be inspired by the stories of women leading change. There will be an AAUW-sponsored event regarding women's human rights prior to the Executive Board meeting on January 19th. Join us at the VCCF Board Room for Architects for Change, to learn about the issues and the leading programs working to strengthen the movement to advance women’s human rights.
