Thank you for your continuing support of the Nora SchoolPhotography Festival. Now in our sixteenth year, tonight weare able to show works from more than 300 studentphotographers representing 19 public and independent schools. To see this thriving community of young artists isencouraging in an era when standardized testing isincreasingly pushing the fine and performing arts out of too many schools.

The photographs you see tonight are testimony to the manyways in which we view the world around us... ways whichhave little to do with multiple choice, but have everything todo with communicating a unique and singular vision of theworld.

I hope you enjoy the exhibition and will come back infuture years to appreciate the artistic sensibilities of ourstudents as they continue to grow and flourish in thesesupportive schools.

Michael Koren is a free-lance sports and event photographer in theBaltimore Washington metro area specializing in youth sportsgame-time action and team portraits. Prior to this Michael workedprofessionally shooting model portfolios, corporate portraits,product photography for catalogs, and client advertisingcampaigns. His passion for photography is shared through his skillas a photography educator, serving as President and EducationChair of the Silver Spring Camera Club (ssccphotography.org). Hehas led numerous seminars and workshops for the Camera Club,Ritz Camera, Montgomery College, Washington School ofPhotography, and Calumet Photographic with topics ranging frombeginner photography to hands on advanced level assignments.Michael teaches classes at Montgomery College on a variety ofphotographic topics. He still finds time to organize an iPhonePhotography Meetup group, leading the group on outings aroundthe metro area and offering instruction and image critiques.

Ana Isabel Martinez Chamorro is a corporate, wedding, andfamily photographer in Washington, DC. Her work has beenpublished in Modern Luxury magazine, The Knot, and theBeverage Journal. Ana has photographed professionally since2009. Ana is a member of the Greater Washington HispanicChamber of Commerce, which supports minority business owners.She is a native of Peru and enjoys traveling and spending timeoutdoors. Ted Schroll has spent many years teaching photography andEnglish, as well as serving as a school administrator. Hisphotographic career spans thirty years, and includes personal fineart work as well as freelance assignments. His work is held inmany private collections, and has been exhibited at StrathmoreHall, the Washington Theological Union, Brookside Gardens, theUnitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring, the Savory Café,Holy Cross Hospital, and the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery.

Don Becker started his photography business in 1976, and is stilloperating as Don Becker Photography(donbeckerphotography.com). He has had many one person andgroup gallery shows of his fine art photography images, and hisfine art photographs reside in an art museum and numerous privatecollections all over the world. An early teacher at the WashingtonSchool of Photography where he had taught for over 30 years, heand several partners recently formed Maryland PhotographicWorkshops, a premier photographic educational organizationdedicated to high quality classes and workshops(marylandphotographicworkshops.com). Don’s current primaryphotographic interests include: lighting and lighting techniques;portraiture; fashion; dance; macro photography; scientific &technical photography; and creative photographic techniques.
