Welcome, everyone, to Cuthburyfor this Emirates FA Cup Sec-ond Round Qualifying tie with

Blackfield & Langley. Please make ourvisitors welcome.

Blackfield play in the Wessex LeaguePremier Division and are no strangers toCuthbury as we had many a difficultgame with them before our promotion tothe Southern League. They have somequality players in their side includingMagpie "old boys" Liam Green & BradMagookin. An especially warm welcometo Liam & Brad.

Last Saturday's game with Larkhall Ath-letic was an exciting affair which endedwith that late equaliser from Ian Oliver. Idoubt we'll see many better strikes thanOllie's at Cuthbury this season. And weface Larkhall again in seven days time -this time at their place in the FA Trophy. There's no coach going to that one be-cause of access difficulties, so I hopethose who want to go along can organisecar sharing.

Last Sunday we hosted the benefit gamefor Steve Moore and it turned out to be afantastic day. Great credit goes to the or-ganising committee which includedMichele Govier, Brian McIntyre & SteveCuss plus many others.

On Wednesday I was privileged to behere to watch our Under 18s take on

Ringwood Town in the FA Youth Cup.There's a report on the 4-2 win later in theprogramme. It was a delight to see theexcellent football on display from bothsides. Our lads face Sholing in the nextround here at Cuthbury on WednesdayOctober 7th. Definitely a date for yourdiary.

Things are moving ahead on the newground front. You'll have seen in theEcho that Wyatt Homes have submittedthe planning application and my under-standing is that will be debated by theplanning committee next month. Mean-while we have another meeting with Wy-att Homes this coming week.

If there's a result today, we'll playingBridgwater Town here in the league onTuesday. If today's game ends all square, the replay will be on Tuesday at Black-field's "Gang Warily" ground.

Enjoy this afternoon’s game.

From the Dugout

Welcome to today's FA Cup tieagainst Blackfield & Langley. We extend a welcome to the

visiting management, players, directorsand supporters.

Last week's League game against Larkha-ll was a very physical and hard match, and in the end I thought we deserved toget a draw from the game. We got off toa great start with Mark Gamble's earlygoal. Defensively we then came under alot of pressure and found ourselves 2-1down. Again there was great resiliencefrom the players in the fact that we stayedin the game and equalised through CarlPreston. Despite our efforts it looked likewe were going to get nothing from thegame as we were trailing 3-2 going intoinjury time but we got the point we de-served when Ian Oliver's volley from out-side the box ended the game 3-3.

I would like to say thank you to everyonewho attended Steve Moore's BenefitGame last Sunday. It was fantastic to seeso many ex-players of Wimborne Townpresent and the large crowd in attendance.Seeing Steve and his family togetheramongst friends was very important andwe wish Steve all the best in his battleagainst his illness.

On Wednesday night the U18's pro-gressed through their first FA Youth Cupmatch with a 4-2 win over RingwoodTown. The team included Ryan Johnsonand Callum O'Hare and the squad are nowat home in the next round against Shol-ing.

For today's game we will be without longterm injured players Scott Arnold andJack Lupton and we have doubts over IanOliver and Jason Harvell.

Thanks for your continued support.

Enjoy the game

Steve Cuss

From the Dressing RoomHi, and welcome to another FA Cup

game here at the Cuthbury. At thisstage of the competition the games areevery other week, and it's good for thewhole Club that we're having another Cuprun. Today we're against Blackfield &Langley who play in the Wessex League.I'll come back to today's game later in mynotes.

Last Saturday we were at home in theleague to Larkhall. Although we did thedouble over them last season, they wenton to reach the play-offs, narrowly losing3-2 at Stratford in the final. Although theylost half-a-dozen players to Frome preseason, they brought in a number of play-ers with higher league experience fromteams like Paulton. We knew they'd be abig strong physical side, and get the ballup to their strikers early, so we talkedabout how to deal with that. We startedwell and got that early goal, which Gambodespatched really well. Unfortunately oneof our customary lapses of concentrationmeant we didn't hang onto the lead forvery long.

Their second goal came about 10 minutesinto the second half, and left us with an-other mountain to climb. Preso's goal, di-rect from a corner on the right, brought uslevel. Preso will tell you that it was a de-liberate in-swinger to the near post, butthose of us nearer the goal will tell youthat it came off the bottom of the defend-er's boot and skidded into the net.

They took the lead again, and we threweverything at them to get another equalis-er. Oli had had to really stretch to make abrilliant tackle on the half-way line, result-ing in both his hamstrings becoming really

tight. So when Billy’s final throw andcross came in he wasn't quick enough toget into the box to go for the header.Which is why he was standing on the edgeof the box and in the right place to strikethat fantastic volley. Scoring that latemade it feel more like a victory than adraw.

I'm sure that for the neutrals it was anotherfantastic game. But for us players, and forCussy too, a 1-0 win would go down real-ly well. We've got some great players go-ing forward, and we're always capable ofscoring. The only problem at the momentis that we're letting goals in at the otherend, and have to score at least 2 or 3 to getanything from the game.

Then on Sunday we took part in the Bene-fit Game for Steve Moore. Mooro is alovely fellow, and it was a fantastic daywith the football community pulling to-gether. The game was played in a greatspirit, and I was pleased to score from dis-tance. I hoped to be subbed straightaway, leaving that as my last contribution, butthe boss left me on. Well done everyonefor making it a brilliant occasion and forraising so much money for Mooro and hisfamily.

Back to today. I understand that Black-field's manager, Howesy, was at theLarkhall game. They've got some experi-enced players, have only lost twice in 13games, so we know it's going to be anoth-er tough game. But winning is importantto the lads and the Club, and we want tobe in the draw for the next round. We look forward to your usual great sup-port.

James Stokoe

Wimborne Town 3 Larkhall Athletic 3 - 19th Sept 2015 - Ken Fergus reportsA sensational volley from Ian Oliver in the94th minute gave Wimborne a share of thepoints on Saturday. One up early on, theMagpies were then behind 2-1 & 3-2 beforeOllie's late late show.

With skipper Scott Arnold missing throughinjury, Steve Cuss moved Billy Maybury toright back and brought Adam Costello backinto the starting lineup to partner Ian Oliverin central defence with Ryan Johnson at leftback. Franklyn Clarke & Jon Blake were inmidfield with Sam Griffin & Carl Prestonout wide and James Stokoe & Mark Gam-ble up front.

Wimborne hit the front after only 2 minutesand it was the Stokoe / Gamble partnershipthat delivered. Larkhall defender Ralph wascaught in possession inside his own box byJames Stokoe and his cross was turned inby Mark Gamble from 6 yards.

The Magpies couldn't hold onto the lead, though, and the visitors equalised 6 minuteslater, Lyons netting with a left foot shotfrom 12 yards. It was end to end stuff afterthat with neither side being able to convertsome good chances into goals. On 13 min-utes it seemed certain that Stokoe wouldrestore the home lead when he met a CarlPreston cross after a great run from theformer Poole man. But James' shot re-bounded off the post and was cleared. Jas-on Harvell made a couple of good savesbefore Griffiths was the sinner for the visi-tors, shooting wide on 40 minutes with onlyJason to beat.

The second half started as the first had fin-ished with both sides focused on attackingfootball. But it was Larkhall who wentahead for the first time on 58 minutes whenThorne was first to a second ball and shothome. Jason kept Wimborne in the gamewhen he saved with his feet on 62 minutes.

With 25 minutes remaining, Patrick Wilsoncame on to replace Ryan Johnson and theMagpies went with three at the back, Olliemoving to left back.

On 70 minutes, a vicious shot from MarkGamble from a tight angle was palmedaway by Phillips in the Larkhall goal but, when Carl Preston's corner came in, it wasmet by unlucky Larkhall sub Wrona whosaw the ball spin up off his boot, off the barand (just) over the line. The generous tan-noy announcer gave the goal to Carl!

If Wimborne thought they would go on towin the game from here, they got a shockjust 5 minutes later when Lyons grabbedhis second of the day with a deflected shotto put Larkhall ahead again.

Morgan Turner replaced Jon Blake on 85minutes and, with time slipping away, theMagpies pressed forward. On 93 minutes along throw from Billy Maybury waspunched back to him and, when his crosswas headed away, there was Ian Oliver tovolley into the top corner from 20 yards.Ollie was mobbed by his teammates and theref blew for time shortly after the restart.

This was a cracking game of football andOllie's goal was good enough to win anygame, never mind get a draw. Overall ashare of the points was fair, althoughLarkhall will be kicking themselves for los-ing the lead so late.

The two teams meet again in the FA Tro-phy in just two weeks and it will be inter-esting to see if either side changes theirapproach based on what they've seen today.

My star man for the Magpies was MarkGamble, not just for his goal but for hiswork rate throughout. In truth, though, every man in black & white did well.

After playing in the war time Hythe and District League, the club joined the SouthamptonJunior League and in 1946 won the Division One title and appeared in the final of theSenior Cup losing to NDLC. However the following season they won the Cup and wereSouthampton League West Division champions.

After this with progression in mind the Club applied to join the Hampshire League andwhen they were accepted made their debut in Division Three West in the 1950/1 season.Although they won the title the following season, the Club did not move into Division Twountil 1956/7. They remained in this division for the next four seasons but were relegatedat the end of 1959/60.

Bad fortune lasted for 15 years as the Club dropped into Division Four, were promoted in1974/5 after finishing third but dropped back again in 1979/80. Then in 1981/2 theHampshire League reorganised and Division Four was swallowed up by Division Threeand as runners up promotion was secured to Division Two.

After three seasons in Division Two, promotion was gained to the top division, overhaul-ing run away leaders, Locksheath, with a last match win at Cowes. In the first season inthe top flight the Club finished a credible tenth. In the following seasons the Clubestablished itself as one of the most consistent teams in the league with eleven top sixfinishes including, three second places and then won the elusive Championship in 1997/8.

With the establishment of the Wessex League in 1986/87 Blackfield & Langley recognisedthat to compete against the best in local football the long term aim had to be elevation tothe new league. With the emphasis for entry into the league being on facilities as much asability on the pitch, negotiations were opened with Fawley District Council for a long leaseon a ground which gave the Club the necessary security to develop it to the requiredstandard.

The pitch at Gang Warily was identified and the Council provided a playing surface thatis the envy of many teams. The Chairman at the time, Hans McDonald, his successor IanHoare and an enthusiastic Committee set about bringing the ground up to standard. Thebest opportunity came in the Championship year 1997/8 but the funds ran out to completeground improvements, so second place Moneyfields were promoted.

The Club’s chance for promotion came two years later. A last match win at West WightMayflower earned third place required and the dream had been realised after 50 seasonsof Hampshire League Football. After 5 years in Wessex Div 1 the club were relegated tothe new Div 2 in 2004.

Over the years Blackfield and Langley has had their fair share of Cup success. In the1980/90s the Club made six appearances at the Dell in the Southampton Senior Cup to addto the two in the 1940s, ending up as winners in four of them. The last success in 1998producing a league and cup double. In the 2000 final the Club suffered the agony of losing2-1 in a replay to AC Delco after a power failure lead to the abandonment of the first gamewith 15 minutes to go and with a 2-0 lead. The club were losing finalists in the RussellCotes Cup in 1986, the Hampshire Youth League Cup in 1991 and the Hampshire Youth

Floodlight Final in 1998. The Club in 2004/5 became only the second club in Hampshirefootball to be awarded the FA ADULT STANDARD CHARTER. In 2007/8 the Clubwere awarded FA CHARTER STANDARD status.

The 2008/9 season saw success return to the Club with promotion back to the top divisionof the Wessex League under the guidance of Jon Gittens. Jon Gittens continued to beManager for the 2009/2010 season and felt the Club had consolidated well into thePremier Division, finishing the season mid-table in the division. Jon Gittens left the clubin the early part of the 2010/11 season and Assistant Manager Louis Bell was put incharge with the team eventually finishing in 14th position. 2011/2012 saw the club slip to16th at the end of the season.

The 2012/13 season was the club’s most successful under the leadership of AshleyVickers, winning the Sydenhams Wessex Premier league by 10 points, reaching the 4thQualifying round of the FA Cup losing 3-0 to Hastings United and reaching the last 32 ofthe FA Vase.

In stark contrast, 2013/2014 season was the most tumultuous in recent years with anumber of changes in playing, coaching and management throughout the season, leaving the clubunsettled for the most part. Taking on the manager’s role, Kevin Gibbens, assisted by ChrisFarrell, managed to finish a very credible 6th in the face of such adversity.2014/15 season started with John Robson taking control of the 1st team and Darren Say-er coming in to run the reserves. The reserve side played in the Wyvern League Eastand, after an indifferent start to the season, Darren managed to settle the side down andhad some useful players come in, two of which established themselves in the 1st team.To their credit, they finished a credible 5th in the league.  The first team started offbrightly and looked as if they were going to have a successful season in the league, butwith some injuries and a general failure to score goals, the season didn’t quite pan out asplanned although we still finished a credible 5th in the league.  Although we wereknocked out of the Hampshire Senior Cup early, we had relatively good runs in both theFA Cup and Vase, got to the semi-final of the Sydenhams League Cup but the successof the season was beating Gosport away in the Russell Coates Cup and going on to beatHorndean (2-0) in the final.

Wimborne Town moved into the SecondRound Qualifying of the FA Youth Cupand a home tie with Sholing with a 4-2extra time win over Ringwood Town atCuthbury on Wednesday.

In front of a crowd of 55, the Young Mag-pies went 1-0 up through Yiannis Rattywith a long ball that deceived the Ring-wood keeper on 14 minutes, only for thevisitors to equalise before the break. Ring-wood then went ahead just before the hourbut Ratty notched his second of the gameon 64 minutes to restore parity.

Into extra time, then, and it was Wimbornelooking the stronger. Charlie Bonningtonput us ahead just two minutes into the extraperiod and, with Ringwood pressing for anequaliser, it was Bonnington again whoscored the Magpies’ fourth on 114 minutes.

This was an excellent performance by thelads and credit goes to the players and themanagement team of Tony Hennell, Mar-tyn Clarke & Paul Barlow. The boys play

in Division Two of the Dorset Under 18Youth League, but for this game they werejoined by Ryan Johnson from the FirstTeam squad and Zeddy Phelps, Josh Wag-staff, Callum O’Hare & Charlie Bonning-ton from the Reserves.Only three of the lads have reached their17th birthday which means that the major-ity of the squad will still be playing under-18 football next season. The two goalscor-ers both caught the eye for their skill andeye for goal, while half-time substituteZeddy Phelps, who has just turned 16,looked a quality defender. The team waswell marshalled by skipper Elliot Miller, son of our former Chairman.

Wimborne Town: Dan Eades, Elliot Mill-er, James Hennell, Nathan Peters (JoshWagstaff 46), Callum O’Hare, GeorgeHolt (Zeddy Phelps 46), Joe Rendell, Yian-nis Ratty, Charlie Bonnington, Max Mason(Ben Barlow 55), Ryan Johnson. Unusedsub: Max Hamilton

FA Youth Cup 1st Round Qualifying - Wimborne Town 4 Ringwood Town 2 aet23rd September 2015 - Ken Fergus reports

In what was always going to be a challeng-ing 3rd competitive fixture we played well, more than holding our own for long peri-ods of the game. Going in at 1 - 0 down wefelt the next goal would be vitally impor-tant, sadly, it came quickly as Southamptondoubled their lead.

Another good period came and went with-out us finding the net, and later Soton add-ed a 3rd & 4th as we chased the game.Credit to Soton who played some greatfootball, we wish them all the very best forthe next round.

Seeing Jack in a protective boot at lastSaturday’s game, we took the opportunityto find out about his injury.

What is your injury?I ruptured my anterior taleo-fibular liga-ment (the ligament connecting the leg tothe foot), and had a severe ankle impinge-ment.

How and when was it caused?Initially during training back in February. Iput my foot out to block a shot. The ballhit the outside of my foot, causing it toturn inwards mid air. Instead of putting myfoot down flat, I landed on the outside ofmy foot and all my weight went down onmy ankle. It sounded like a pencil snap-ping. That practically ended my season. Itried to rest and recover over the summer, not knowing the full extent of the damageat this point. The day before pre seasonstarted this year, I rolled the ankle again, atwhich point I got a proper diagnosis.

What's been the treatment?I had surgery on the 25th August. Therewere two procedures to address the twoinjuries. I had keyhole surgery across thetop of my foot to clear the impinging andany extra bone that had formed. The sec-ond and more major procedure was to fixthe ruptured ligament. A 4-5 inch incisionwas made down the outside ankle, a seriesof small holes were drilled into the bottomof the leg bone, into which anchors werescrewed. The ligament was then pulled upand tied onto these anchors. I have juststarted physiotherapy, which will belengthy, but is the final stage of treatment.

When might you start training / playingagain?I hope to be back playing around Christ-mas time.

Is there anything you can do to keep fitwhile you recover? For two weeks following surgery I was inplaster and on crutches, so there was reallynothing I could do. However now I am in aprotective boot, I can walk around a bitmore. I have been going to the gym everyday, but at this stage all I can really do isupper body and right leg weights. Gradual-ly I will be able to do more and more car-dio work on my way back to full fitness. As much as I am desperate to run around, Ialso understand the importance of notrushing things and being patient.

Has it affected your day job?I had three weeks off work following sur-gery, but now I am in the boot I am backto work in a normal capacity. I have a deskjob, so it doesn't impact my work toomuch.

Anything else you’d like to add?A positive mentality is key. I have hadlengthy injuries before, and I know thatkeeping upbeat, listening to health profes-sional's advice and doing everything I pos-sibly can to help recovery along, all helptowards a full and thorough recovery.

Plans to move Wimborne Town FC to a new location in the town have been submitted tothe council. The proposals would see the Southern League club – currently based in Cow-grove Road – relocated to land off Parmiter Drive.

New football pitches, a clubhouse, stands, changing facilities and parking would be creat-ed at the site, as well as 81 new homes, allotments, a 'teenage activity space' and a Site ofAlternative Natural Greenspace, or SANG.

Former Wimborne Town chair Paula Henley unveiled plans for the new ground in Febru-ary, saying the facility would have "an awful lot of potential".

The stadium would be constructed at the cost of Wyatt Homes, who plan to build housingon Wimborne’s current premises.

And club director Ken Fergus said he is optimistic about Magpies' future at the site."Building in the area of Cuthbury has been in the strategic plan for East Dorset for sometime now, and as a result of that the developers must provide a new location for the club."That other location is designated in the plan. We are in ongoing talks with the develop-ers, and have been for the last two or three years."

A planning application for the site has now been submitted to East Dorset District Coun-cil, and members of the public are invited to have their say until early next month.

Mr Fergus admitted it would be a "big wrench" to leave Cuthbury, where the team havebeen based for many years. "On the other hand, it's exciting to be able to move to a newarea. It's not too far out of town, so we're hopeful that it will be a positive move for theclub," he said.

Developers hope to begin building at the 12-acre Parmiter Drive site as early as next year.Council officers have called the scheme an "important initial piece in a wider jigsaw ofdevelopment planned for Wimborne".

A total of 192 dwellings are proposed by Wyatt Homes for Cuthbury, where 20 existingproperties will be replaced and land has been identified for possible extension to Wim-borne hospital.

A planning application has not yet been submitted for the land.

As part of the core strategy for Christchurch and East Dorset, a total of 350 homes, asports village, new allotments, a local centre, land for a school and a country park are dueto be provided for land south of Leigh Road.

Parmiter Drive must be developed to enable the relocation of Wimborne Town FC andsome of the allotments remaining at Cuthbury.

The estimated cost of construction at the site is around £13million, providing 100 fulltime construction jobs each year and up to four times that in the supply chain.

The proposed 81 dwellings will accommodate around 185 people, and developers say 40of the properties – around 50 per cent – will be affordable.
